That would be a fairly major renovation with little or no benefit to Disney. It would also require some changes to the theming at some of the resorts. I can't imagine they'd invest that much in something that isn't really necessary.

To what possible benefit? The resorts already sell out as it is, and I can't imagine this would significantly increase the rates they'd be able to get.

Interior hallways would be a VERY costly renovation, you would have to shut down the entire resort for weeks. I can't imagine what extra comfort they would provide, so I'd say this one is just rumor flying around.

Even if they just enclosed the outer hallways then they would need to find a way to vent all the heat/AC units in each room. I don't see it happening.

Perhaps they mean with any new resorts built they will use interior hallways, there is no way they will do that to all existing resorts it would be a waste of money. They would build new resorts first or finish ones that are in limbo...like POP LY.

And there are so many more things that make the deluxes special than their interior hallways.

I was thinking the same thing..

I have yet to be able to stay in a delux resort but i have to admit stpping out from a cool room into that Florida humidity is sometimes a shock.

The only reasons I can think they would do this is for security and/or energy efficiency.

Interior hallways are much more secure and the doorways in the public areas can require swipe cards and Closed Circuit TV is easier to utilize.

Interior halls also conserve AC unlike numerous exterior doors. This could be part of the "greening" of WDW intiatives.

This type of renovation is difficult but not impossible. I know the military has renovated thousands of dorms from interior hallways to individual exterior doorways (the opposite of the OP's rumor).

This I can see, but renovating the current ones is doubtful. Honestly though, I don't see them adding any resorts for the foreseeable future.

I can see them adding new resorts, but it seems like all they add anymore is new DVC resorts...either by adding a DVC wing to an existing Deluxe Resort (as in AKL, WL and Contemporary) or by building an all new DVC resort. So while I can easily see them building a new DVC resort in the future, I doubt that they will build any new value, moderate or Deluxe resorts. I wish they would, though, because not everyone is into DVC.

Eliminating the doors, though, creates a larger issue. The hallways are a new space to air condition, I would say nearly doubling the amount volume of space needing AC.

Plus big AC units would be needed to pump in the wealth of cold air. Although I'm not certain, I'd bet that those little AC units in the windows would be more efficient that the larger ones that have major air ducts/distances to travel.

I hope they include balconies as well in the new resorts. All the AC in the world can't replace the fresh aired scenery and landscaping. I like to roam the walkway by my room at pop century in the evening and morning. It's so much more serene than my neighborhood. I hope guests can have that option at the newer resorts.
