Universal Epic Universe (South Expansion Complex) - Now Open!

Epic Universe has 6 expansion pads that can be considered as 7 expansion pads. I don't know where 6 or 7 expansion pads isn't considered a decent amount.

There is one expansion pad that can be consider as 2 expansion pads. I am referring to a 20 acre expansion pad. I don't see a single IP take up 20 acres that Universal can use.

Also Isle of Berk's expansion pad doesn't have any plans yet. It doesn't like Super Nintendo World's 7 acre expansion pad isn't being use yet either since Universal canceled the permit.

Only 3 of those 6 or 7 expansion pads have been listed for permits currently. The only permits listed currently is Potter expansion pad, Dark Universe expansion pad, and the expansion pad that is going to used for a building that I think normal theme park goers will have access to.

Because of the design of Epic tbh, having only 3 real expansion plots is kinda low after only the first year or two of operation.

There’s also a tendency to hear about every Universal rumour and for the community to assume they are all happening. This has been going on for 15 years more or less.

A lot of these things bouncing around won’t materialize. We obviously have a coaster and it seems like Lost Continent and Potter will come to pass, but I wouldn’t bet the farm on this other handful.

Ride wise at least. The two shows are great though. Why do those exist and a family friendly dark ride can’t?

Although one of the shows isn’t that family friendly anyway due to terrible design, half of Cirque Arcanus tables place standing up so many people can’t see what’s happening.

Well thats good then, I would say that they are putting a lot to risk still with the overall design of the park but it's kinda worked with IOA so I guess it's not that big of a deal

What risk? Epic has significantly more room to expand than IOA did.

It's new.

I'm a bit unsure of what will be going on story-wise with a show like this. The main issue I have with Universal's nighttime spectaculars is that the IPs are difficult to integrate, which I find weakens the show a bit.

I kind of agree. It ends up feeling like a run-through of their IP properties, whereas the better of Disney’s night shows that integrate IP (so all the current ones) use specific themes from the IPs to convey a greater message. In other words, more curated feeling than just “here’s this movie. Now here’s this movie.”

Fantasmic on the other hand is largely just an IP runthrough, just with a framing device of Mickey’s dream.

That said the current fountain show at least opened and closed with an original thing so maybe they can extend that here.

I don't expect it to be anything better than what they've previously shown in any of there parks (which is mostly pretty lame), but it's still good to know that the park is "plus-ing" in ways, and will continue to with the rumored next 2 attractions flying through permit filing.

Let's be real here, it's highly unlikely it will achieve the emotional highs of Happily Ever After, Luminous, Fantasmic's finale, Wishes, or (most of all) Reflections of Earth. I'm sure it'll be fine though.

This new fireworks show would be closer to Fantasmic! in emotional impact since it's just a rolodex of IP... and only four of them.

The only way to elevate this show is for each of the four IPs to have very very distinct lighting and fireworks. It would need to really set a distinctive mood for each IP.

If it's all the same fountain work and fireworks for each IP... that would be nice... the first time you saw it.

I think the bigger question is will they be allowed to make an original song? That’s the spice of most of the successful Disney staples. It needs an opener and a finale reprise.

So you think this new show will be pretty lame?

I liked the fountain show they had when I traveled in June 2025; but it was mostly symphonic with the flashing fountains & lights; so it will be upgraded on that with the fireworks & MORE lights; but i'm not expecting a story connecting the material, making it rather "meh?"

Fantasmic is my favorite theme park night show by a landslide: Story focused, not just the screens but also the practical puppets and actors. That's a real night time spectacular IMO ha!

(I'm the biggest Uni fan-boi, so this is NOT me bashing the product).

Maybe not lame, but I would not expect anything cohesive or spectacular. Only so many ways you can use Super Mario and Frankenstein to tell a story.

I’m half joking, because I think there might be an original conceit here. I look foward to it.

I’ve never clocked what the difference is between an IP invasion and an actual IP park until we arrive at a night show. Epic of course can do whatever they want, but there’s no wiggle room to extend beyond the four properties they have (and the celestial bow), otherwise it’s not really an Epic night show.
