Tunnel between Magic Kingdom and the Contemporary

There is something about the fact that the post dates are now very tiny and gray. I don't even notice the post dates until someone remarks how old they are. I think the redesign is causing these bumps to happen more often. Didn't the post date used to be at the top, and more prominent?

There are a dozen or more AVAC stations throughout the MK where custodial staff deposits bags of trash to be whisked away to the AVAC plant behind Frontierland.

The AVAC to the Contemporary Hotel used to be adjacent to the Loading Dock but is now capped. Why? I heard it was one or all of the following - too far/low vacuum, rusting pipes, difficult to service and someone tried to use it as a tunnel but got stuck;)!

FYI: A new AVAC station is being added to the Be Our Guest Restaurant, the pipe is visible on the side of building from the employee Tunnel bus stop.

Water Bridges - 3 on property = #1 between 7 Seas & Bay Lake, #2 is Epcot Resorts Blvd, #3 is Ave of the Stars (Employees only) ALSO sandwiched between #2 and #3 is a Canal tunnel where the Epcot Perimeter canal goes under the International Gateway Canal (different water levels)

LOL. I have to admit that I never looked at the original date. I didn't even realize that ten year old threads were still in the main database.

Someone make a note to bring this back in another five and ten years.

Hi all,

Cool site, glad I found it.

Has anyone ever heard of a tunnel between Magic Kingdom and the Contemporary? I read a post out on OrlandoRocks.com that walt had one built but it was not really usable. Funny I have not heard about this before, but quite a bit of detail there so It makes me think it's true.

Man I would like to check it out!, I wonder if it entered the Utilidors?

Walt had one built? Hmm. Walt planned on Epcot to be built first. Exact plans for MK didn't even come up until after his death.

BTW If you dont know how WDW property works. They set up the Ready Creek Improvement District. they decide all building codes and provides the saftey inspections for WDW property. and the buildings were up tp RCID codes so that was not the reason it was the archectual firm that was the dispite, It was even mentioned on several programs about WDW running around on Discovery Networks cable somewhere.
the main push for getting the Monorail through the contemporary was the need for it at the still planned real EPCOT Site. Monorails would be shooting through the central area of the city all day and they needed to prove that it would work, but as we know it didn't happen

No harm in discussing it, I think... the rumor is probably still floating around out there. The first thing I thought is there a section of land from MK to Contemporary that is all at MK level? Obviously they wouldn't build a really for real underground tunnel; that's why the utilidors are built the way they are. The biggest thing working against this rumor, I think, is why even have a tunnel between MK and Contemporary in the first place? The utilidors have a purpose: to do your operations stuff out of sight of the guests and preserve the show in the MK. What would the point be of a tunnel between MK and Contemporary? If you need to move someone/something between the two, you just load up a van backstage at MK and take it to a loading dock at the Contemporary.
That would be a pretty long tunnel, so they would have to have a good reason and I don't see one.

I think orginally it was a utilities tunnel for piping like chilled water, plumbing, air, electricity, etc coming from the energy plant not meant for transportation or storage.

Timon or anyone else; you don't have an AVAC plan do you?
Sorry no map.

Most of the input stations are behind the major restaurants, that I've seen. There may be more I don't know about. I do know they are pretty much used only for bagged trash from garbage cans. Most restaurants also have dumpsters for boxes and other sorted refuse.

Was this tunnel/entrance supposed to go to from the Contemporary to the main gate or into Tomorrowland? Because back in the late 60's when the Parisian Resort was still being considered, the Monorail was going to have an entrance into Tomorrowland the same way it does in Anaheim. It seems like anything could've been possible back then but never built

Does anyone have a photo of one of the drop stations? I've seen the building behind Splash a number of times, but never one of the inputs.

yes, there is a tunnel.. But I would more akin It to a sewer culvert...... it's not 'un safe'.. but it's for utilities, nothing more... There are portions that are completely blocked by conduit, pipes (15 inch), etc...It's so dense that it would have to be excavated if there were any issues .. There are vents from the tunnel near World Drive across from contemporary... very small space.. not passable by human traffic by any means.. The corridor connects to the MK Tunnel in the Southeast corner not far from the MS East tunnel entrance ...
