I put one in my carry on in early August. I wondered if they were going to stop me or open my suitcase but it went right through. It might have been a different story if it was full as it would have made more of an impression on the x-ray.

In 2017 Homeland Security inspectors were able to transport facsimile firearms, explosives and knives through TSA checkpoints an appalling 70 percent of the time.

However God help you if you try to bring back a plastic lightsaber or bottle of coke. They are about as effective as Disney's security checkpoints in finding selfie sticks.

The Transportation Security Administration has reversed a ban on the “thermal detonator” Coca-Cola bottles sold in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios after a review determined the souvenirs do not pose a security threat to aircraft.

If you go look at the original article, a phone interview was done by the reporter and got an official statement from a TSA spokesperson. So no it wasn't just based on a tweet.

No, you can not bring thermal detonators replicas on the plane because it looks like a replica....OhhKY, Ill drink the liquid and now it is an empty bottle. Never take an Atari Lynx handheld through TSA security. I had it in a case plugged in to an external battery supply of six D cells. In the x-ray it looks like a bunch of electronics, large battery and wires. I had to show them it worked and they let me though. They wanted to play it too!
