Perhaps it was someone else. Wasn't there at least consideration of using the area beyond the Fantasyland train station as an expansion area filling in the pond? I could have sworn you posted drawings and talked about it even recently. Perhaps it was Lee. Or another insider.
I talked about a 1980-ish plan to build south of Space Mountain. Perhaps that was it.

Yes, that's right. And I'm pretty sure someone else showed a diagram where they would have filled in north of Tron. Possibly from early days. Seems entirely possible if they wanted to build there. Similar to Splash and Space Mountain.

Considering that they just reconfigured all the drainage in that area for Tron, it's not likely that there are any plans for expansion in that area in the near future.

Agreed 100%

After further research some random observations....

It is amazing how close the pond is to the train station.🚂 But A Lot of land potentially available.
Dumbo created more problems for Tomorrwland expansion than TRON. IMO. It is as if someone was drawing a line in the sand with that structure.

I would favor removing the speedway for the right concept. Something to take Tomorrowland to the next level. The speedway concept could easily be reimagined at another park. (Cars?)

There are huge areas on either side of Space Mountain. Not to mention the area behind CoP. Room for a couple decades worth of potential upgrades.

And I'm not even counting Stitch, laugh floor, and buzz spaces.

I dont see alot of capx in the future. But thats just imho i think people are going to be clamoring to get back to normal so there will be no reason to spend cash as TWDC.

I missed the parking lot to the south -- don't see any other spot, though! Looks like there are existing buildings everywhere else other than south of Space Mountain if they could fill in that pond (I would assume they couldn't, but who knows).

It looks like there could be room for two things in that parking lot area, though.

Ideally Buzz would be rethemed to something better and of higher quality (or just higher quality) and a new build would go in the car park. Capacity and all that. But with the SGE mess we know that won’t happen.

I’ve trotted this out before too from 1980:

My fear is that the reservation system will morph into a sort of 'engineered demand' which would make investments less of a requirement...potentially. In theory. But perhaps Epic Universe will force more investment.

My theory is they have to add new compelling content regularly or risk decline.

There's no doubt universal has gotten so much better at competing but there still so much smaller in scale and cant milk nostalgia as much. I hooe epic universe also forces disney to start to invest more.

Thanks @Ripken10 Now I remember. It was a post where @marni1971 was asked about a very old drawing and he replied he thought it might have been for an original Poppins ride. I believe it was outside the tracks. Good to have that resolved 😋

Poppins was inside the tracks, not outside. The outside the tracks south of SM was unknown. A 1992 variant was inside the tracks.

Now it’s resolved.
