Trips With Multiple Resorts

Just for the sake of trying something different, I'm considering a trip in which I stay at multiple resorts. For instance, a nine day trip with three different resorts, three nights apiece.

Has anyone ever done a multiple resort trip?

In 9 days we are staying at OKW for our arrival night before heading to AKL for 4 nights. We are trying to experience all the DVC resorts. We got a great deal on the point rentals, our OKW night is only $110(thanks Lauren @The DVC. Rental Store). It will be our first time splitting a stay.

@ParentsOf4 pretty much hit all the high and low points, but there are a couple more things.

One other con is that you do not really get familiar with the resort like you do with an extended stay. My trips tend to be dominated by the 2-3 day variety. It always seems like we are packing up and leaving right when we are feeling cozy with the resort. The same kind of thing happens when you resort hop.

Dining reservations can be a little tricky as well. Normally you can reserve for your entire trip as soon as your 180 day mark rolls around. Not so with a split stay. If you have a 9 day trip broken up between 3 resorts you will have 3 different 180 day marks. This is not big deal most of the time, but if you want to do some of the more popular places like BoG, CM or Ohanna, only having a 3 day window can throw a monkey wrench into things.

Lastly, multiple resort stays will not work if you want to do the DDP. To get the DDP you must either have an AP and book under an AP rate or you must buy tickets with each reservation. A nine day ticket base ticket is around $350. Three, three day tickets come in at $840.

We used to do strictly moderates, but have now started staying at a value and then switching to deluxe/villa. It's really nice-almost like 2 vacations back to back. You really come to appreciate the deluxe experience after staying at POP or AOA. The only drawback is you have to make 2 (or in your case 3) separate reservations with confirmation numbers. Make sure you keep track of each resort switch day because guest services can get confused. Also, if you plan on using the refillable mugs, be sure to check the forums about the new "rapid fill cups" as there seems to be some trouble now with switching resorts and taking your mugs with you. Have fun!

We just did this in June, stayed at 3 different resort over 11 days. Originally it started out with me booking AKV for a week (Fri to Fri), but then when I was looking into airfare found that it was much cheaper to flight out the night before on Thursday, so I booked 1 night at AoA. On the day we wer flying to Disney there were a bunch of storms that delayed us for MANY hours! 10 to be exact. So of course annoyed at the situation I asked the airline if they would allow me to change my return flight since I was essentially missing an entire day of my vacation, they agreed to do that so I added an extra 2 days to the end of my trip and booked a more at POR. I loved being able to spend time at all the different resorts, but will say it was a bit much packing to move each time. Decided that 2 resorts is my limit on future trips.

We are heading back in May for 10 days and are doing a split stay between BCV and AKV Jambo! I so can not wait!

IMHO 9 days is just barely enough time to resort hop once because I am kind of with Master Yoda, for all the reasons listed. Also depending on the size of your travel party, packing and unpacking sucks and takes time. This summer we did 8 days at BWI and then 6 days at the POLY and we were a group of 5 and that worked great. The summer before did 8 days at BC and 3 days at AKL and that was so-so but I would take a weekend at AKL again in the summer so the kids could do the pool there because they loved it so. Last Thanksgiving we did 7 days at the POLY and one last day at the Dolphin and that was okay too. This November we do 7 days at WL and 7 at Dolphin. I love changing the scenery up for a long trip but to change resorts 3 times in 9 days, only if it was me by myself or with an adult friend, definitely not with kiddos...

I'm going down in January '15 for the Marathon and already booked DVC KV from Thursday to Tuesday, but then registered for Dopey with 1 other person. We were planning on flying down a day ahead of the rest of our party. How does moving from one resort to another work? We are debating AKL or Y&BC to stay the extra night. Does Disney transport luggage to another resort for you? Are we just better off staying at AKL and walking over to KV?

Disney will transport your bags for you. About the only down side to letting Disney move your luggage is you will not be able to easily access it for the time you drop it off to the time when it is delivered.

I have done this several times... usually staying at one lower end deluxe and then switching over to the GF for the last few nights (only when it's too expensive at the GF.)

We're doing a 12 day stay with 9 people at 4 resorts, leaving in 2 days. Staying at AoA (Cars), PORS, AKV (Kidani), & ASM. I'll let you guys know how it goes... psycho crazy, I'm sure!:D

I'm staying at two resorts during my trip--CSR and All Star Music. I originally thought I was staying at CSR only with a check out date of 6/3 then planning to spend the rest of the week at the beach. But my hometown had other plans for me, calling me to jury duty at the end of the week. Wouldn't be much of a beach trip. So, I extended my WDW trip by one day for a night in All Star Sports. Like hearing that WDW will transport my luggage for me.

On my "resort switch day", I'm making a day of it in AK, so I'll just drop off my luggage at CSR and retrieve it later in the day at All Star Music.

One particularly long trip (honeymoon trip in fact) we did a week in a studio Villa in Wilderness Lodge, followed by 3 nights at a 1BR Villa at Boardwalk. I did my best to arrange more things around the locations where we were staying, and the nice thing about having the 1BR Villa was we got all our previous week's laundry done - each time we were back in the room we'd just throw another load in the washer and/or dryer - and drove back home after our trip without dreading that huge pile of dirty clothes stinking up the car. It was out first time in a 1BR at WDW, we had previously stopped off once for 3 nights at Hilton Head after a week stay at a Saratoga Studio. Our first night in HH was a studio but our neighbors were quite noisy so we asked them if they could move us. They only had 1BR villas, but the difference in price was only $100 for the two nights combined so we sucked it up. But after the Boardwalk, we're now spoiled, it's always a 1BR so we can a: pack less per person and b: get a little privacy from (and for) the kids.

I used to be curious about the Deluxes, but couldn't afford to do an entire week, so I might do one or two nights at Beach Club, and then move to the rest of the week at POFQ. (Or up from ASMov to AKL.)

They do a good job of transferring the luggage, it's just the problem that:
A) You can never completely unpack, since you'll have to repack mid-trip,
B) You can't do dining/ticket packages, since each resort stay is considered separate, and
C) You always end up wishing you could have stayed longer at the new resort you were trying out. :arghh:
