OK so nothing big. However with our annual beach trip in October cancelled this year I decided to take at least one day for a date night. I was able to get two great tickets to Beauty and the Beast @ the Palace Theater in Columbus, OH Oct 13th 2p.m. A date night for just us is a very rare occasion and I want a special way to surprise her with the tickets. Instead of just whipping out the tickets and saying, "Let's go, baby!" I wanted a more romantic approach. I'm like that. ;)

My idea was to put them in a basket with a single rose maybe a card. Let her find it one day after work. What suggestions do you have? Any input is welcome.

With so many Dr. Seuss titles that make it hard to choose.:D Thanks that is a good idea.
your welcome :) here is a brilliant idea: get a small basket tied with a bow with the card. then put the book and as a book mark, put the tickets. top it off with a single red rose with the french : vous êtes ma belle ( you are my belle) i thought that would be cute :) and get you extra points for the french :)

And the "belle" part would work in two ways as it means beauty as well. Two birds with one stone? I think yes.

how about sending it to her by singing messenger

That's an idea. She probably wound not answer the door to a stranger unless it was a kid. If it is just her and the daughter at home I couldn't blame her. Home invasions have been on the rise in my town.

So I took a more simplistic approach. I bought a few chick flicks that she had been hounding me about and a gift bag and a artificial rose poking out the top. I cut a slit in the DVD packaging and slipped the tickets inside one of the movies. Knowing that Katie is a detail hawk I thought that the tampering with the package would set off alarm bells and force her to open the movie to check and see if it was stolen.

So Allison and I give her the package and say happy early birthday. Like two months early so that really caught her off guard. She takes the rose out and open the bag to find the two movies. "Thanks for the early gift of movies??" Still with a confused look I tell her that there were not many left so I grabbed on knowing this was the movie you really wanted. So go ahead and open it and we will watch movie.

I was for sure this would work. She opened the DVD as easy as stick of gum.

Me: "How did you open that so easy?"
Katie: "I don't know the plastic just came right off."

Without the use of anything sharp this was an amazing. So I tell her to check inside to make sure the movie is in there. She pops open the case, yup it's in there. And she closed the case back. At this point I am in the face palm position on the couch.

Me: "Are you sure you didn't see anything else? Check again."

She opens the case again and takes a longer look at the DVD and the contents and shuts the case. Now I am in a double face palm.

Me: "Katie look inside, what was that white thing?"

She opens again and takes a closer look to see my name printed on the front cover of the ticket pack. After reading and absorbing for what seemed like forever she finally starts to freak out. I explain what we are doing and when and that I needed to do this early to get a babysitter.

Katie: "Did you get the day off work?"

Me: "No, they denied the request so I will be ill that day."

I tell her to thank her daughter for the tickets. She woke me up early that morning on my vacation after you turned off my alarm. If I wasn't up to buy the tickets at @ 9:00 am we would be stuck in the back of the house. But everything worked out and we are a week away from enjoying our show. I am just as excited as her to get out of town even if just for the day.

So I have to give an ending to this adventure.

The play was a great! It was at the historic Palace Theater of Columbus, OH. I forgot my camera and was really wanting to get some pics of the architecture. So I just used my old cell phone to snap some quick pics. The theater is being restored so some stuff is in rough shape. While I was trying to take a panoramic of the ceiling I was told by a usher, "Sir, there are no pictures in the theater." I already had most of what I wanted but it was a little weird to be told that. While behind her and everywhere else people were taking pictures. Oh well the rest of the time was awesome! They play as been retooled to help the actors show emotions and it is a must see for any fan. I found myself singing along many times during the play. Gaston, LeFou and Lumiere were standout's of the cast.

After the play we went to the newly opened Hollywood Casino in Columbus where we had a nice dinner and won $90 on a Alice in Wonderland slot machine. Those winnings are the start of our next Disney fund. Just a weird twist to win on that machine with our emotional final day meeting with Alice and the White rabbit. Those details are in my TR.
