Hi all

Does anyone remember treehouse villas that used to be a WDW. I think it may have been near Port Orleans.

Does anyone have any pics of these or know what happened?

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Treehouse villas have a long history prior to SSR.
Yes but when they added them back they started from scratch and rebuilt them. May have used frame but from what I remember they did not just refurbish the old ones. I have been on this board for a long time as have you , and remember when they were being redone etc to be added for DVC. :)

Update :From on here as I thought they were totally rebuilt.

This is a picture I took a couple of years ago. We were riding the boat on the Sassagoula river from Port Orleans Riverside to DTD.

I don't recall them being completely rebuilt, or at least all of them rebuilt. There are several that line the 17th fairway of Lake Buena Vista golf course and they are all the same buildings. They were used for several years for the international college students (as others have said), but at least those were not torn down and rebuilt.

Apparently the reason they were completly rebuilt was to ensure at least some had disabled access?
Not really.

Many of them had been damaged over the years to the point where a remodel or a refurb simply was not going to cut it. As I understand, it the property they were sitting on was classified as wetlands and this raised a number of legal hurdles to do anything other than simply removing them and letting nature have the land back.

The new design had a much smaller footprint that came in contact with the ground (less than half IIRC) without sacrificing square footage of the actual living space. This gave Disney the ability to legally rebuild them.

Making some of the units ADA compliant involved building some incredibly long ramps (in excess of 100') to allow wheel chair access.

I am fairly certain that all were rebuilt from the ground up.
One of the contractors, PPD, lists 60 units being built, which I believe is the entire inventory.

When I was kid we stayed in a villa (an original one). I remember it being a pretty cool experience. Anyone remember what resort they used to be tied to?

we stayed there in 1977 and I don't think it was really tied to any one resort they way they are now.

I recall that every treehouse came with a golf cart and you could drive to and from what is now DTD. both the treehouse and DTD would have charging stations and special parking for the carts.

They were being used as team housing for many "Train the Trainer" types of corporate meetings tied to the Disney Institute during the very early 90's when I worked in the Meeting and Incentive Travel industry. They were dumps and I was glad to see they were taken offline and redone. They are a cool concept - but Disney had let them go for too long - they should have been redone back in the 90's - at least.

They come up if you do a search for rooms at Saratoga Springs. Not cheap...maybe some day.
Here is a question, would Disney let you tour one before you booked it? I am not dropping $800 a night to stay in something left over from the 90's and smells like an old musty barn.

I'm sure if you asked they would let you tour one.

I really think the old ones were practically rebuilt - but for the price I don't blame you for wabting to check it out.

I'm curious if they still use them for corporate team housing?

The buildings are only 5-6 years old, so I seriously doubt that they have devolved into a "musty old barn" in that short time.

I toured one during training a few years ago and found them to be one of the nicest rooms on property. They also accommodate 9 people and sport a full kitchen.
