I'm not sure if this has been asked before but, I am planning on visiting DL in June 2013. What is the cheapest way to get to Universal, the beaches and seaworld? We won't have a rental car. Trying to figure everything out so I can book my trip. Also, is the Southern Cal pass worth it? Thanks for your help!

Before I lived in California, we'd use Gray Line's tours to go around SoCal from Anaheim.

You could also get to Universal Studios by taking Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner train to Union Station in L.A., and then hop on the Red Line to Universal City - a tad more complicated, but it should be cheaper per person and you wouldn't be put under Gray Line's departure times to/from the park.

Getting to SeaWorld or some of the beaches from Anaheim would require the Gray Line tour or Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner as well. The Surfliner goes along the coast in that direction and it's a great ride. The only thing would be transportation from the station in San Diego to SeaWorld - you'd need a taxi for that.

As for the SoCal City Pass, I've never used it, but with a 3-day DLR park hopper, 1-day USH, and 1-day SWSD included, it definitely looks like a good deal.

I just got back from a trip and I used the Southern California CityPass. I experienced absolutely no problems. The only odd thing is that you only use it the first time you visit one of the Disneyland Resort parks. Upon your first entry the Cast Member will give you a paper 3 Day Park Hopper ticket. This is what you will use for FastPass, re-entry (don't forget your hand stamp!) and entry on your second and third days.

I also thought the CityPass, with its low price, made the trip a little less stressful. I didn't feel as compelled to get my money's worth for what would have been a much more expensive vacation.

I used a rental car because of where I was staying and going. Public transit takes awhile and required a lot of transfers. Amtrak can get pricey quickly. The Grey Line offerings sound good.

Cheapest way to get to Universal:

Take LA Metro 460 from Disneyland to 7th Street Metro Station ($2.90). Transfer to LA Metro Redline Subway heading towards NorthHollywood. Get off at Universal City Station. ($1.50).

Go up to street level and take the free Universal shuttle to the park.

Cheapest way to get to Knott's:

Take LA Metro 460 from Disneyland. Get off a the Knott's Berry Farm Stop and walk across the street to the park. ($1.50)
