Toy Story Mania!versus Toy Story Midway Mania... still an issue...

Amazing that the folks inside the company still can't agree.

Disney Marketing has since day one (before the ride opening) called the attraction "toy Story Mania!", but the parks folks try to use Toy Story Midway Mania! instead.

Heck, look at the official MaxPass announcement at the Disney Parks blog...

So the wording is...

But the photo at the top of the page shows the Midway Mania! sign...

The ART Buses around the DLR have "Toy Story Mania!" bus wrap ads on some of their vehicles.

Is it really an issue if people really don't care what it's called?

The ride is TSMM. It was designed for DCA with that name. Then lazy WDW decided they wanted the ride prior to DCA's opening but the Midway theme didn't work. So for WDW dropped the Midway part of the name. The lazy and generic "Disney parks" people decided it as easier to refer to both as TSM.

In the end, WDW operates a ride called TS Mania. DCA operates a ride called TS Midway Mania.

It's probably in some computer database that only marketing looks at and it was entered incorrectly and no one has notice to change it. We've got all kinds of weird names entered for software in our databases that have nothing to do with the real name.

For Marketing purposes, Toy Story Midway Mania is a fairly long title, and can more easily be remembered as Toy Story Mania.

However, I am sure Imagineers, who would be more intent on the theme of the area would like the title to remain Toy Story Midway Mania to fit in with the "midway" theme of Paradise Pier.

At DHS, however, they probably just kept the name in order to keep things consistent between parks.

In hindsight, this is probably something the average park goer would not really notice, so the issue has never really needed to be resolved.

No offense, but I don't see any real "issue" here...

When people want to go on Snow White, they don't say, "Let's ride Snow White's Scary Adventure".
When people want(ed) to go on Tower of Terror, they didn't say, "Let's ride Twilight Zone Tower of Terror".
When people want to go on Indiana Jones, they don't say, "Let's ride Indiana Jones Adventure!"

Case and point? No one REALLY cares what the ride is "supposed" to be called, they just go on it.

While your point is very valid, I don't think this excuses marketing from getting it right.

Many people call Walt Disney World "Disney World" for short, yet marketing still gets it right. Why? Because important information is conveyed. The "Walt" is a key part of the resort's identity, just as Midway is an important part of the ride's identity. A good ride name conveys what the ride is about while also creating interest (it also is helpful if they're short or roll off the tongue). Toy Story Mania leaves considerable ambiguity. Toy Story Midway Mania clarifies what it is.

This shows a lack of care. Marketing not getting it right also is rather ironic for a company that is obsessed with brand.

Quite amusing.

Edit: Also want to point out that the writer's whole job is being a Disneyland spokesperson. The fact that she doesn't know the product well enough to get it right is also pretty disheartening.

looks like the issue is that on the DL website, the link to the attractions website is labelled as "Toy Story Mania"...in the header and in the link itself. Not until you read the site itself does it name the attraction "Toy Story Midway Mania"
