Toy Story Land expansion announced for Disney's Hollywood Studios

Avatar and SWL shouldn't have had their third rides cut but what we're getting still looks great. There should be more beyond those lands for each park as well.
SWL especially, since that would have added great kinetic energy and been built throughout the land (aka can't really be added in the future). I think Pandora can benefit from having only two, keeping the spread out, natural, laid back feel of DAK as in Asia and Africa, both with few attractions.

At least the 2 rides each in Avatar and SWL sound very substantial to make up for the lack of others.

Indeed and they are needed -- sufficient E-tickets not only provide for enough of a draw to each park, but provides some excess so things don't suffer when other top rides have to go down for refurbs. WDW as a whole needs to have more attractions to allow for ongoing maintenance.

That said, all the MK parks would benefit in addition to headliners to having more C-ticket stuff to spread people around and provide more attraction capacity.

Interesting note about animation courtyard and the 2-3 attractions in the southern edge of dhs.

I'm hoping that means some plans for Echo Lake (getting rid of the IJ stunt show and building around there) might be back on the table. Once TSL opens, I think they could get away with demo'ing the stunt show theater and building in that area, which could open 1-2 years after Star Wars.

I'm really disappointed about the third ride from Star Wars never getting approved. It sounds like something that would have been a great kinetic element and provided DHS with a good complimentary experience.

I agree. The original planners knew the power of kinetics. In DL, I watched the Matterhorn, Subs and the Monorail all at the same time. At least WDW still has the PeopleMover.
I would have loved to see a "Banta-mover?" and I think its removal from SWL is short-sighted.

TSL would have had had some kinetic energy, but now who knows, what will be built.

TSL at least still will, as both rides will be pretty visible from outside of them to see the action going on. But it would have been cool to be able to walk on the little paths that winded under/around the slinky coaster before they got cut and the land essentially became a straight path walkway.

Since its not going to be built...can you tell us what it was?

I thought that too, It seems small, but the path under the coaster adds to the kinetics. Instead of viewing from afar, you would be under/over the coaster. This adds to the excitement of the attraction. It is a build-up before your ride. Even if you don't plan to ride it would have still given the area energy. The new design loses most of that. At least for me.

Some kind of roller coaster according to insiders.

I am okay with losing this. The land already cost 1 billion dollars so any coaster probably would have been lacking. If not, the other areas would have been a victim of the budget.

It seems like it was either a rollercoaster or FoP. I like rollercoasters, but they are everywhere. However, if they themed it well it could have been good. The problem with theming a rollercoaster is that everything goes by too fast.
A hybrid coaster is appealing to me, I will pass on your normal coaster.

If I recall the info I've read here correctly everything was included in the original budget of $500 million that came out with the announcement. The coaster was then cut and the project still ballooned to double its original amount. I think it was a bike coaster like Tron.

Can anyone in the know corroborate or is my memory foggy? @1023?

I could be wrong, but it was my belief that the 500 million was approved right from the start. Some reports said it could be up to 800 million. Cameron wanted a coaster, but that was not included because they settled on the 2 current attractions.

I think a coaster could still be added, but not until a phase 2 of Pandora: WoA. They have left room for this later.

You probably know more than me, so what do you know about this?

Well from the wording of my post you can see that what I know is based on what I've read on here over the years. What I know would be the same as what anyone who followed very closely would know, but I could also be wrong about the coaster being included in the budget and then cut.

I read that Cameron wanted it, but they finally agreed on the current configuration.

Again, your contacts are better than mine.

Good memory Mike.... There was an up and back LIM with a unique ride vehicle that was "considered". Think of a remote located "Gravity" building type setup.... It was axed EARLY....
