I just stumbled upon this video and have never seen it talked about here. How in the world did the ride operator not catch this? I really hope they were caught and thrown out of the park.

i don't even know why people keep doing such acts of idiocy. If i were in charge, i would not only have these guests thrown out of WDW, but i would also both have them banned from all of the Disney Parks, and not just the ones from the US, but i would've been more than happy to have them charged with reckless endangerment to really burn a lesson that they'll never forget.

A great example of the worst kinda people. Getting caught was a bit of a joke and they have no idea why it's dangerous. If they wanna hurt themselves then fine, but don't put other people in danger.

If they had hurt themselves, I'm sure we would have seen "Tower of Terror Causes Injury" headlines.... sigh....

Thanks for posting OP, I've never seen this before. As stupid as it was to do, it does look kind of fun. The whole weightless feeling you get when you over a really big bump driving, well this would be that x50 I'd guess lol.

For the record, No I would never do it and would be mad if my ride was interrupted because some ***hole did it on my ride.

I agree, it does look like fun. I remember reading somewhere about how someone left some slack in their seatbelt. I remember doing that once and it was really thrilling. However with that said, I wouldn't do this as I wouldn't want to be banned, hurt, or kicked out. But ya, it does look like fun.

The saddest part of this is, had they actually hurt themselves it would have been a media nightmare and ALL the blame would have went to Disney. I'm not saying some CM somewhere shouldn't get fired for missing this (they should), but that side of the story would never have made it to the media.

I'm actually really surprised Disney doesn't have some better method to protect against this. I would assume that sensors in the seats that detect weight and alert someone if that seat isn't buckled would be very reasonable on a ride like this. It's crazy that something like this should be necessary, just like the lap bars on splash mountain.

I feel like there should be some common sense test that you have to pass in order to come in contact with other people in society.

They most likely buckled the seatbelt and then sat on it. There's nothing telling the CM that the seatbelt is stretched *over* the Guest and not under them... I believe there may be a secondary sensor in the belt assembly, but an accomplice in the seat next to the person can help get around that.

The point is that you can design the safest possible restraint in the world, but a determined person will still find a way around it...

ToT without a seatbelt is fun. It's fun those 100 times everybody ends up okay.

It's not fun that one in a hundred times your massive full grown bulk loses its balances and ends up on the kid in front of you.

People do get hurt on rides. So just follow the safety instructions. It's not like you are a real badass for daring to ride a theme park attraction without your seatbelt on.

I know I'm a chicken, but I just can't imagine!

I can barely survive it WITH my seatbelt on. I make sure my seatbelt is uber tight and then hold on for dear life. No way would I ever ride without a seatbelt.

So glad they have a way to catch people like this though. I agree - rules are rules for a reason. And I would have been so angry if that guy had ended up flying into myself or my child.

Disney seatbelts are easy to get out of. Just pull the strap all the way out and hold it from retracting with one hand and click it in with the other. Most ride operators see the green lights now and start the ride without a visual. Soon as they leave, throw the belt out in front of you and then slide your legs thru. Then let go of the side you have been holding from retracting the whole time and it will retract behind you and you are free to fly around the cabin on TOT, Star Tours, etc. Certainly didn't work everytime, but once and awhile you can get lucky if you are in the right spot of the ride vehicle. Used to do it all the time when the rides were always the same. Didn't really add much too it when you knew what was coming, drop here, comet storm there. Now with various ride sequences and the fact I have to set an example for a 6 and 8 year old I would never do it. And seriously, if anyone tries this on Soarin you really are stupid.

It's a little sad that the whole time I was watching the video, I was thinking "landing back down in the seat had to leave a few bruises.". :lookaroun. That would hurt.
In all seriousness though, this is just not a good idea. Not for your own safety, not fir the safety of those around you. Please, no one get inspired by this video. :dazzle:

First, a property owner/company doesn't get to decide what - if any- criminal charge(s) applies at the time of arrest. That's in the discretion of the arresting officer, and that decision is often subsequently adjusted by the state because officers are not legal experts; contrary to their own beliefs. Second, a person cannot "recklessly endanger" themselves. And it's highly unlikely that their poor decisions would constitute the threshold of "likely to result in death or serious bodily injury" to others, regardless of the conservative opinions expressed here.

That's virtually impossible, unless the culprit were to stand or otherwise "jump" from beyond the "seated" position. ToT simply does not create enough "air" to displace a person who is not wearing a seatbelt but is otherwise remains in a bent-knees seated position - and thats clear from the multiple videos online of this same behavior (yes, others have posted similar videos.) Try riding with a backpack on your lap. It will remain within the vicinity of your chest and it will not land on anyone else.

CMs are supposed to do a visual check of seatbelts. We are all familiar with their "hands up" instruction in seatbelt attractions. The only way to deliberately fool a CM who is doing their job at 100% is to pull extra slack out, sit on the slack, and display a "secure" belt, and then weasel out of it mid-ride. Only then would the CM have been as thorough as realistically possible (without a physical inspection of each individual person) and the success of the "evasion" completely on the shoulders of the idiot.

....thats the line? Riding Soarin with no seat belt makes you stupid? Wow. I'm not an internet fight starter, but if I were, I would have some words for you.
