God bless the "Ignore" button.
When I was just a LITTLE dude I rode next to my mom, whose legs were quite a bit larger than mine.
Yeah, that was a very exciting ride.

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
When I rode it in 98' my first and last time when I was 17 it was just the lap bar. They dropped us 3 times with the last drop of course at the very top and I held on for dear life with my eyes closed!!!! Never again!!!! :arghh:

Well, when I first rode it at about age 4 they had a lap bar. That was 1999. By the time I decided I liked it at age 9 (2004) they had seatbelts. I would say somewhere around 2001.

I always thought the reason they changed it because back then the "seat belt seat" was the most popular place to sit because of no lap bar, and so they removed the lap bars because of that popularity I think???

Has the Tower of Terror always had individual seat belts, or was it a single lap bar per row when the ride was first opened?

Thanks to anyone that can answer.

Just my two cents' worth here, but having been on TOT when they had the lap bar some years ago--I thought the ride was even more thrilling. You'd really lift up from your seat when the elevator dropped, and it was a blast. TOT is still an excellent ride with the seat belts now, but it was better with the lap bars.

My wife only tried it a second time after I told her seatbelts had been installed. The issue with the lap bar (for her) was that it only locked down to the size of the largest guest in the row.

In 2002 my daughter had a good time flying around in the lap bar. I am a pretty large guy and she is a small girl so there was probably about 4-5 inches between her and the bar. BOY didn't she scream on that ride. But now it is one of her favorites at Disney. She likes the seatbelts better because she is still a small person.

The old seat belt was much better than the new seat belts. It didn't retract nearly as fast, so you could get a bit more "slack" in the belt. More so than if you were sharing a lap bar with a larger person.

They have a little belt that is held together with Velcro. You do not go anywhere just straight up and down. There are metal hand bars to the side of each seat that I hold onto so hard I leave my finger imprints.
