Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover closing for a near two month refurbishment

Guess I'll be the cynic that says nothing will be changed, it is merely a move to reduce CM payroll and operating expense, not that there was much to begin with.

Maybe they could actually make the cool (and expensive) lighting system work...

Nah....I doubt it.

What's 20 million dollars (or was it 30?) between imagineers? Perhaps they are simply trying to beat the government for the amount of money wasted!

As for this refurb, I and many others have been extremely vocal about bringing back the old narration since 2009. Factually speaking, Disney could switch the narration back TOMORROW if they really wanted to. When the attraction reopened in Sept. 2009, it had the original narration for about three weeks. One morning they flipped the switch and it could be easily switched back.

As an aside, how is it that there is no source copy of the narration out there? I understand why we have the opening lines, but how has this not leaked?

But what could the intention of this 2-month refurb be? There's many portions along that track that could, and should, be repainted. The lighting system is a possible as @Lee had indicated, but the amount of work that would need to be done to rewire the whole track may take longer then a Disney 2-month work period. It's very possible they could implement more security measures to avoid the bumping of cars.

But the real question is the narration. It will have been 4 1/2 years since the switch. Disney always thinking about ROI and getting the most use out of something, I would like to believe that the moratorium or making a switch is now cost effective. The only reason we haven't gotten a switch to SGE is because Disney doesn't feel it has recouped its investment. Even though Bruce Vaughn confided to me in the video that @RSoxNo1, recorded at the D23 expo, that the Tiki Room was replaced because of guest demand, we all know that this isn't the full story.

Overall, due to the low-cost of recording a narration, perhaps we can finally get a positive change to the TTA. Either bring back the original or have a new Intra-Tomorrowland storyline themed narration. Hell, Pete Renaday is still out there kicking! If nothing else, bring back the chime. The TTA chime was just as quintessential as the Star Tours one was!

God bless the "Ignore" button.
NO! Don't remove it! Keep the hairdressing scene it's a classic. I love the dials and knobs instead of digital stuff! Like Carousel of Progress, some things are best left alone, just keep them clean and in working order. Heck for the hairdressing scene there isn't even a "working order" you just look at it as you go by!

We could just throw a strobe on it... ;)
Yeti reference FTW!

Please slow it down a little. My God, when we rode it this past October it took off like a bullet. We hit the curves at what seemed like break-neck speed. I don;t remember this thing being that fast.

The ride system and vehicle speeds haven't changed since the ride first opened. Speed and accelleration are essentially set by how the LIMs are placed on the track.

All I know is that on this past trip we sat down in the car and once it cleared the loading station it absolutely took off. It sort of scared my wife a little. I noticed that it had far fewer cars on the tracks than we have seen before. Maybe that had something to do with the speed.

Not really. As the cars leave the station, they hit a stretch of closely-spaced LIMs that accelerate the train to that section's pre-determined speed.

About the only possible difference would be if you were the only riders in your train and you've only ever ridden fully-loaded trains in the past. With less mass to move, the LIMs would get the train up to its travel speed slightly faster.

That being said, I've ridden the TTA with both fully-loaded and empty-except-for-me trains and I've never noticed any difference.

It just seemed that the previous trips we have taken the TTA was a far slower ride and leisurely ambled along the track. It seemed like this time that the cars were hitting the corner pretty fast. Fast enough to bump us around slightly. Maybe it was just our imagination though. It may have been going the same speed as always.

TTA maximum of trains on the track is currently twenty five. They were able to run with more in the WEDway days. I'm almost certain the bumping that is occurring at the station is why they no longer operate the extra seven trains they used to. The ride system has seen some minor modifications over the years, but it is still housed in its old MAPO era computer towers scattered throughout Tomorrowland. There are sensors embedded in the track near some of the linear induction motors that are supposed to slow the vehicle down to provide ample spacing and to prevent a "trains ahead" situation from occurring. The scarcity of parts and the lack of maintenance overall is probably contributing to the bumping at the station. Another factor is the frequency of ride stops.

^What he said is spot on. Bumping occurs when a LIM is tripped like a circut breaker or when there have been too many stops in a short period of time. Apparently, it is hard for a number of guests to make it into or out of their trains in time while in the station.

COP would only get the continual updating of seats, carpet, paint and dust. They might also make some minor changes for the cast that might include new cameras. You won't see any major changes that involve the scenes or narration.

I imagine a source of the entire narration is just as rare as a source copy of the music at the end of Living with the Land. It would be awesome to have, but we'll have to keep dreaming. I would set the jingle they play at parts as my text tone.
