Hi all I'm new here and I'm planning a big trip for my husband and I 7-1-7-6 and I'm thinking of trying the plaza viewing dessert party our first night there. Can anyone give me insight into whether it's worth the extra money?? Wanted something special for this trip and our first time seeing the new show. Thanks again!!

I think my opinion is going to run counter to that of the majority but I don't think its worth it. My family enjoyed the firework display from the Polynesian, never mind in the park. I think if you can carve out a spot close by, it will be just as good.

I did it a few weeks ago. I did not enjoy most of the bite-sized desserts, but then again, my sweet tooth isn't what it used to be. I did like having a gated off spot where I had elbow room, and I was amused to hear guests outside my area expressing envy of those of us in the dessert party. The crowds on Main Street can be pretty intense, and if you don't stake out a spot early (or book the dessert party), you may not have that clear a view of the castle projections, although the fireworks you should still be able to see. I still had a hard time seeing the images on the bottom half of the castle, but I think that was my fault because the spot I chose near the front of the gated area had a tree in the way.

I did this for my 40th birthday when Wishes was ending. I wanted a relaxed viewing of the fireworks and I didn't want to stress about waiting for the fireworks with an 18th month old. For those reasons, yes, worth it! As mentioned in the above post, with the new show Happily Ever After, from the Plaza, you will struggle to see the projections on the bottom half of the Castle. I would do it again, but it would be for very special occasions.

Lately they have been marking out spots for people to stand, and enforcing open passage rules thru the walking parts (i.e. no standing around). Last time I was there, on a monday, in off season (recently), it was plain elbow to elbow, crazyness, honestly, it was worse than last thanksgiving. People were starting to spot squat or hold around 7pm .. insane!

Next time we are looking at the desert party, essentially paying to have some space. If you can get into the Contemporary rooftop bar, I heard that is great viewing also.

Thanks guys !!! I think we are gonna go ahead and do it. My husband was pretty excited when I showed him what it would be and that we would get a guarantee spot for the fireworks he wanted to do it after that lol we are gonna be at magic kingdom again on that last day of our trip so we can see the fireworks again for anything we would miss . It will be his second trip but his first time seeing the fireworks at all and going to Epcot and Animal Kingdom , I'm determined to make a Disney lover out of him yet lol

IMHO, the party is worth it simply to not have to deal with the crowds. The sugar rush is a bonus.

Another option you might want to look into that is just a little bit more for your party size is a Fireworks Cruise. http://allears.net/btp/spcruise.htm

This, exactly!

We always go in December and this past year was the first time I have ever heard them come over the speaker and say they were at capacity for viewing the fireworks on Main St. We were enjoying our desserts seated under the terrace :).

The time slot is based on the scheduled time for the fireworks - the same time is given to everyone who books that same Dessert Party. It's more like a "party start time" than a traditional ADR.

Thanks that's good to know, we are going be in the magic kingdom that afternoon so this was something special for my husband and I since it's our first trip alone in 6 yrs . I think if we get there at the start then do we have to wait there until a CSM takes us down to the garden or can we go down there ourselves when we're done ?

That, I'm not sure about. Maybe somebody who's been recently can weigh in. I've read reviews of the party that mentioned just asking a CM to take you down (I do think they want you to be escorted) when you're ready, but I don't know if that's the current procedure.

When you finish eating you just go back to the check in desk and a cast member with glow sticks guides you to the garden. You can go over as early as you want. Then you can just sit in the “grass” and relax until the fireworks start.

We always do the dessert party. The food is ok but having a spot to view the nighttime spectacular is worth every penny. It would be a great way to start you trip.

Debating whether to do the (a) HEA dessert party or (b) Fantasmic with my to be 3.5 year old (her first trip). We only have room in the schedule for one of them. Thoughts on which way to go?

Is (s)he mad on characters? Personally I'd say HEA, as its an incredible show, but if your child loves characters you get to see more of them in front of you at fantasmic

I've never done the Fantasmic dessert party, but it's easier to get a good spot to view Fantasmic without the need for FastPasses or special party rights than it is to find a good spot for HEA. Fantasmic has seating in an amphitheater and just about any seat seems a good seat (at least, I haven't had experience with a bad seat), whereas with the Magic Kingdom fireworks, it's standing room only, so I would do the dessert party at HEA.

On second reading of your post, I see you are asking not about dessert parties for each show, but which show to go to in the first place. I would recommend Fantasmic in that case. It is my all-time favorite of all the attractions at Disney Parks. There are some elements that might scare young children, I've heard, but I have little experience, not being a parent. I just know I love Fantasmic!

She does love the characters, but there is also something about about seeing a fireworks show at the castle. If it were just me, I prefer Fantasmic!, but I'm trying to think about it from the perspective of a 3.5 year old. The good news is that we plan on heading back at least annually so whatever she misses this time, we can see the following year.
