To HS or Not.... That is the Question

We have a trip that we won coming up in April. It’s 4 days during spring break. Family of 4, 2 adults a 7yo and 3yo. We definitely are doing 1 MK day, 1 EC day, and 1 AK day. The question is do we do 2 days of MK or go to HS for the last day. There is less to do at HS but we do like DisJR, BatB stage show, TSMM, and TLM show. Of course it’s so busy, we might need 2 days at MK. What are your thoughts?

My thoughts would be with the ages of your children would they be bored with a day at Epcot? Just wondering once you get past part of Future World and Frozen will they be happy with the rest of the World Showcase?

Personally, I would do 2 days at Magic Kingdom! Just because Hollywood Studios is a large construction site and not too many things for a 7 and 3 yr old to do! BUT I would also take into consideration what Bullseye1967 says too only if you want to take in any nighttime at Hollywood Studios! But even then, at least for me, I would rather spend the extra day at Magic Kingdom! That way you can plan out your FP's a little better, take your time and enjoy yourselves, take that much needed afternoon break for the kids/your sakes!

The shows at DHS might be a nice way for your kids to wind down for an afternoon. If they enjoy them then why not fit it in? After all, the next time you go, the kids may not want to, especially the older one for Disney Jnr, which then means a more complicated plan!

Maybe a morning at Epcot doing the stuff they might enjoy and hop over to DHS via the boat? See the shows, ride TSMM (you might get an fp if you try as soon as you finish at Epcot), watch Fantasmic or the Star Wars fireworks to end the day.

We don’t currently have park hoppers as that wasn’t a part of the package. I guess we could add it just to one day ( we have all one day passes) to make that happen. That is certainly a good idea. Our kids love Epcot. They love The Three Caballeros, Nemo, Living with the Land, Spaceship Earth, all of it. Theh even really like to explore the countries. Sweet kiddos we have.

Are your kids big Star Wars fans? If so - do Hollywood Studios. If not, go to Magic Kingdom.

My boys are 7 and 4 and LOVE Star Wars. We made a great full day out of HS about a month ago.

How did you win it?

Through my husbands company. His company used to partner with Disney on the Great Movie Ride so they had some corporate passes. It’s day passes, hotel, and flights. We are feeling so lucky. We go to Disney quite a bit but are always excited for an extra trip. We know it’s going to be super busy for this trip and are looking forward to do things a bit different. Tom Sawyer Island, more pool time, more focus on the things with less lines.

My oldest likes the original Star Wars. She digs Yoda and Chebacca. She has only seen one film but as a book reader has read a few books about the world of Star Wars. She adores Chewbacca and has done the training on a previous trip. I think you are right the more I think about to. It’s going to be super crowded. Better just to take it easy and relaxed.

It's a substantial exaggeration when people call HS a construction zone. Between the stage shows, Star Wars shows, and rides there's plenty to fill the better part of a day. Those that call it a half day park are only doing half that the park offers.

Exactly!! My first run at a touring plan lasts all day, plus we get to ride our favorite attractions twice! It's like no one cares about any of the shows or other park offerings. I just don't get it. People just don't seem to like the shows and don't like the old days where you could ride your favorite things more than once. Fine by me, less people I have to deal with in line.

Glad to hear you kids love Epcot :) In that case I'm not sure if you'll have enough time to park hop though.

If you are thinking of DD doing Jedi Training, you will need to get there early. You could start there, get a lateish time slot and then go down to Epcot. You then have a reason to be back at DHS in the afternoon. You would have time to fit in the FW rides, ( especially if you're not heading to both TT and Soarin) and some WS exploring, then take the boat back.

I think you should do HS for a full day. My question is what is the reason to save it for the last day? Are you leaving that same day or its just your last day there? If you're leaving that day then I say stick with going to HS.

If they do it on the last day they won't be able to do the night time stuff. If they like Star Wars, which DD does, the projection show / fireworks are worth doing.

Thats kind of why I asked. We personally like the nightime stuff at MK and Epcot so if we only get part of a day HS is usually the one.

Congrats on going to Disney on someone elses money!!! That makes it all the better. Spring breaks usually pretty buzy, I'd say where youre going to MK first, see how much you accomplish and decide wether theres enough to warrant visiting another day. DHS is worth a visit but you have to decide which will give you the most value for your kids in attractions and shows. For our family we ALWAYS do MK on the last day.

Given the ages of your kids I’d do 2 days MK and somehow split a day or either Epcot or AK into doing something at HS. The shows don’t require FP so it’s actualky a good park to do for a 1/2 day. I say do the 1/2 day at AK. You might want to enjoy the F&G festival decor at Epcot for more than just a 1/2 day along with rides.
