Trip Report There's Something About Mary...and it's called DRAMA!

I think it's time to get this thing started...hoping it will help my mood and sanity levels. For those that missed the PTR (http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/lawdy-lawdy-look-whos-turning-40-ptr.867181/) - the early pages should help you catch up on the bulk of the big details, and for those that missed our problems from day 1 of our trip (http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/how-not-to-start-your-wdw-vacay.873853/ )...well, it kind of speaks for itself.:( I am going to try and keep this as upbeat as possible, but we have a very long road ahead to fix things...so, please bear with me as I vent in between some of the magic. :)

September 18th

I left work early on the 18th so I could pick up the girls at school and have them with us when we took our dog to get boarded. This is our Daisy Doggy...
074.JPG

What's really funny, the pic above was taken with Sammie's Fisher Price plastic kiddie camera!

After getting the dog situated at boarding, we went home, had some dinner, and the heavy duty packing started. I'd actually started packing my things on the 17th, but now it was time to really focus on the girls. I let them sleep in the guest bedroom that night so I could pack all of their stuff without keeping them up...i.e. so I could pack all of the surprise outfits without spoiling anything.;) It was A TON of packing, but I finished up around 1am. I had thought about setting up the outfits and bags in the guest room for the reveal, but Sammie got up to use the bathroom right around that time- soooooo, I decided to wait until just before the big reveal.

September 19

I guess I got close to 4.5 hours of sleep (good for the night before a travel day)...and at 6am, it was finally time to set up and reveal the big secret. I got everything set up and then DH came in to help me. The video I took is pretty awful and sleepy girls don't make for really good surprises, but this is the vid I took and I swear...they were REALLY happy.

You can all now probably appreciate what it's like getting these two up for school each morning.

Actually, the girls were super quick to get dressed once it really sunk in what was going on. They were even good with posing for pictures before hitting the road...
9924749463_db7fbda884.jpg

We loaded up my SUV and hit the road...sadly, we wouldn't get far. The accident took place about 2.5 miles from our house. I really don't want to rehash all of the scary details, but when we realized we'd all be able to walk away from this horror - we had to decide if we'd continue with this WDW trip. While the girls' initial screams and cries were from the accident itself, they morphed into cries that they wouldn't get to see their grandma and grandpa. We usually try and visit every 3 months, but we pushed it a bit longer b/c of this trip. It was for this reason DH and I decided to push forward with the trip even if the odds weren't in our favor. I guess I just figured getting everyone to "the most magical place on earth" could be therapeutic. Don't get me wrong...I love that the EMTs and lead sheriff on the scene were super lovey with the girls :inlove: - they really needed something super positive...so, Disney it was!

So, after I took care of the most important initial phone calls, I got Southwest on the line (at the scene of the wreck) and started working with them to rebook the outbound flight. We were yelling over ambulance sirens and traffic, but after about 20 min, we were rebooked from our 9:15am departure to a 3:55pm departure. They also said DH could ask for a blue card for pre-board (we were now in group C after paying to be in group A on the original flight)...while it's gotten better, he had some leg pain that day and was limping from the aches. The timing also worked well since it gave me time to go to the collision center, talk to the various insurance companies, etc. My wonderful MIL was also kind enough to pick up DH and the girls from the scene. This enabled him to get his car and she was able to love on the girls for a while until we were ready to regroup and get travel plans rolling again.

While our flight out of Houston was delayed close to 3 hours due to weather and mechanical issues (not helping Kendall, who was now terrified that the plane would crash), but we got off the ground a little after 6pm and we were on our way...

9924756273_281dbbc4e9.jpg

Sammie sat with DH on the way to FL-- with Pooh, of course...
9924657494_bc33e6d210.jpg

I had Kendall...
9924579545_9f192d5e78.jpg

...and we spent the entire flight doing this big word search on her tablet.

9924651404_e1738fda8b.jpg

We flew into terminal A and DME is in terminal B. It was after the girls' bed time, so we opted to just get our baggage. Soooooo, we went down to terminal A baggage and then lugged it over to DME in terminal B. Thankfully, Kendall has overcome her fear of escalators, so minus losing her shoe for a while on one of them  we were in good shape.

I think the CMs manning the DME entrance could read all of the stress and worry on my face, because they promised me pixie dust and magic from that point on. :D We had our Magic Bands on at this point, but I had my vouchers out so in the interest of time and sanity, they just used those. They directed us to the line for AKL and while we were let on the bus right away...we were so late that the bus was accommodating a number of resorts from various lines. Still...Kendall and I wound up with this prime spot!

9924661334_a5f37400c7.jpg

I swear, I got choked up when I looked up and saw the screen...like that "we're really on our way" moment.

9924619886_389c274cb7.jpg

It took a while for them to load up the bus since they were waiting on people to come in from all of these late or delayed flights, but it wasn't long before we were off.

Beyond this...trying to decide what vehicles to look at once we finally get to that stage. I don't think I can psychologically handle being in my totaled vehicle's clone. There is one large SUV of interest, but that thing is going to make my insurance skyrocket even though the gas mileage is comparable. There is a crossover SUV I've loved ever since it debuted several years ago, but I'm not sure the cargo area or 3rd row seats are enough...not that I use them all the time, but it's nice having a bigger cargo area and a more comfy 3rd row. Then there's the minivan. I've never been a minivan kind of person, but it would definitely lower my insurance, it would cut my gas consumption, and the whole third row/cargo concern would be well covered. Decisions.
It sounds like the other woman's insurance co. is just "passing the buck" along. How frustrating for you! But, I guess there's a yin and yang to everything in life...you're very diligent about getting correct information in a timely manner, while it sounds like the other party and her insurance are making themselves scarce. **Happy thoughts your way!**

As for your next vehicle selection...rockin' the minivan! We 'invested' in a 2012 Chrysler Town & Country, but the only way my DH would approve the transaction would be if the minivan was decked out. We have been thoroughly happy with our decision: namely the room and amenities in our 'living room on wheels!' The 3rd row and having the deeper storage behind it have come into use on many occasions...no luggage rack for us! All of this is just one momma's opinion...it just happens to be about convenience over style.

Still sending prayers your way as you find resolution to your drama and pains!

Awesome update as usual! What I nightmare with all the accident stuff! I seriously might have went off the deep end by now with this woman's insurance compay if I were you! No lie I probably would have been using some not so nice Diseny friendly words with them by now! LOL!

Love crystal palace! Its been so long since we've eaten there. With an 11 year old boy, he perfers tusker house and 'ohana! Surprisingly we were talking about where we want to eat in May and he opted for the princess breakfast at Akershus! I was shocked! I go Devon, are you looking to pick up chicks at breakfast? LOL He goes mom, I just want to try somewhere different, plus I figured you enjoy the princesses! Boy cracks me up!

I appreciate it :) All the prayers and positive thoughts really help. :)

We made a little more headway today, but still in a very frustrating place.

There are definitely a lot of pros to a minivan. It would just be a very big transition for me. I've had 3 different vehicles over the last 12 years (I have bad luck with vehicles) and they've all been SUVs. I had cars before that, but my dad even jokes how I was begging for an SUV by the time we were looking at a 2nd car for me. Still...it's hard to ignore the positives of the minivan. I think some of it will be trying a few for a test drive and see if I get any strong feelings either way. I've heard a lot of positive feedback on the Town & Country, my MIL has a Honda Odyssey that they really like, several friends rave about their Toyota Siennas, and call me crazy- but I really like the looks of the new Nissan Quest. Add 1 large SUV, 1 truck based mid-sized SUV, and 2 crossover mid-sized SUVs to the mix...and...well, it's a complicated mess.

I sympathize with all the car/insurance trouble you have had, my car was stolen a few years ago. Not only were you a victim for the accident but, you continue to be victimized when dealing with the insurance company.

That is a great picture of Sammie! That is a picture of 'happy'!

I've heard auto theft is also incredibly difficult to negotiate with the insurance companies. That's a really good way of putting it. I hadn't thought about it that way, but it's precisely how I feel. We were already the victims of this awful crash, but they victimize us further by turning the insurance process into a nightmare.

The Sammie picture is definitely a portrait of "happy."

Aw those pictures are really good! The girls look so excited and it makes me even more excited to go to the Crystal Palace now!

Thanks! Love Crystal Palace :)

Thanks! I'm pretty sure I sounded like a crazy lady when I was leaving messages for these people yesterday...well, at least the actual auto adjustor girl. Her supervisor got a more controlled me...sharp tones...but that controlled and professional angry. I know that gets a lot of attention with my company's clients, so using that psychology for this.

Too funny that he wants to go to Akershus. I think some of it just depends on the kid. My friend's daughter is a senior in high school and Crystal Palace is her fave character meal while another friend's middle school age son has informed his dad that all character meals are off the table, with the exception of Garden Grill. I think he's going to have a blast with all of the princesses :)

Another fun read. Great cake! We have one ordered for Thursday night at Narcoossee. Can't wait!!!

Thanks! I haven't been on the "how many days" thread in a while, but I was thinking your next trip was this week. Can't wait to see the cake!

I was hoping to post a TR update tonight, but Comcast had massive high speed internet outages in our area. It went out around 2pm (while I was working from home) and didn't come back up until 9pm. I still have like another 1,000 pics :jawdrop: to upload for this particular day of the report, but I still have enough already uploaded for at least a good 6-10 installments. Hopefully tomorrow :)

Drama Update

Medical
The chiro warned me that I'd feel a number of the adjustments in my legs. Boy, she wasn't kidding. My legs feel like I've walked for 16 hours straight at WDW!

Auto
The adjustor's supervisor called me back today. He apologized quite a bit, admitting that they dropped the ball several times, and that this has gone on way too long. The first call was optimistic...he said there were no claims for the vehicle in front of me. He said they called out to the company that owns the truck and they knew nothing of the accident and weren't aware of any damage. I guess the person that handled this part assumed this was enough, but he was supposed to reach out to the driver as well. So, said supervisor reached out to the driver today. According to the driver, there is some damage to the truck, but even though almost a month has passed... he didn't notify anyone or get the damage assessed. HUH???? So, now we have to wait on him to get the truck damage assessed before they can determine what they can give me...and determine if I need to file any of this as underinsured motorist, so that I can get everything I deserve.

I tell ya...before all of this happened, we were starting to shop around to do some price comparisons on insurance companies. You can bet that we won't be going with this company!

Good night all :)

Another good update :)

Thank you!!! :)

Not that my vote counts ;) but mini-vans are much more awesome than they are cracked up to be. When you think about everything you get space wise, along with the gas consumption, it's a seriously good deal. Also, the seating is usually fantastic - and if you take road trips with the girls, having row style seating/bucket style seating with space is fantastic. We're in the process of getting rid of the mini-van my mom got in 2001 and if it weren't beat up from being 12 years old and I weren't 2013 and kidless - I'd be clamoring to keep it. I know that a lot has change in 12 years car wise, but even our 2001 Montana versus a 2010 Dodge Journey with the third row - the Montana still wins. The space can really make all the difference.

Love the Crystal Palace updates - I love that place. I haven't been in years, but Pooh and the gang are so special.

It's tough...there are just so many pros and cons to each. The seating in the minivan is definitely easier from the 2nd and 3rd row perspective...and obviously, there is the insurance and gas savings. My family always jokes when any of us had to get into my SUV's 3rd row...i.e. the level of flexibility required. But I do love the truck ride, the higher profile in traffic, and mine had some pretty serious cargo capacity. This pic doesn't even show the front passenger seat folded flat.

th

I've narrowed in down to 1 truck SUV, 1 crossover SUV, and 1 minivan... once we get to the test driving part... which may start as early as this weekend. I have a 2nd choice in each category just in case I really decide I prefer 1 segment to all of the others. I do appreciate the perspective and opinion though :) b/c they're all things to really consider in this. I really thought I'd be in my SUV for at least another 5-6 years, so I'm just so overwhelmed with having to make this kind of decision so soon. At least when my 2001 Durango was totaled, I'd had it for over 5 years and it was paid off. Oh well- decisions will have to be made...now if only the insurance would get all of this worked out. *sigh*

Crystal Palace Rocks!!!!

A starting vent...skip forward if you'd like a drama free read :)

So, apparently the whole reason the guy who was in the pickup in front of me is using an independent source for his damage appraisal is that he's out of town until next week. So, they were just hoping for a rough estimate this week. Ultimately, they still have to wait on him to get an estimate with one of their authorized shops before they'll officially do anything...or so they say. I just don't get how you can be in an accident with a brand new company vehicle and not report a thing after nearly 4 weeks!?!?!? Maybe he thought he was doing us a favor? I don't know...all I know is that the damage to his truck is likely going to be the difference between them covering all of my loss vs. me having to file a portion as underinsured motorist through my insurer. And then there's the healthcare...while it makes sense, it just bites that there can't be any level of payout until we're fully ready to settle. So, the week before Christmas, I'll be trying to get in all of our medical docs and fighting for our settlement... assuming we don't require any additional treatment.

On to brighter things....END DRAMA VENT...

Sept 22 Continued…
We were plotting out our early AM plan was we were walking out of Crystal Palace. I had promised Kendall Space Mountain, so that was #1 on my list. She had rejoiced at the doctor back in August when she finally measured up to that 44” mark and she was a bit down that she didn’t get a chance to ride it the other night during MNSSHP. Since we didn’t have the benefit of FP+ for this day, I thought hitting it first was the way to go for this. Unfortunately, Sammie is not tall enough to ride, so we needed a plan for her. DH agreed to take Sammie to Big Thunder, and I took Kendall to Space Mountain…even my parents came along with me and K!!!

As you can see, the early AM crowds are still making their way into the park.

We made our way towards Tomorrowland. I even pointed out the terrace along the way, but I don’t think my parents really understood my explanation of the dessert party.

10282034896_735498a554_z.jpg

We kept moving towards Space Mountain…
10282053985_5073fae3ca_z.jpg

It’s funny…as we walked into this area, I couldn’t help but think of my very first time in the Magic Kingdom back in 1985. This area has changed a bit, but this is the direction we went on that very first time in MK. Of course, my first ride was Mission to Mars…so, not exactly able to recreate that experience this time around.

We have arrived! Time to make our way in...

10282001286_cd9e52c674_z.jpg

I couldn’t really read Kendall at this point. I was trying to gauge if she was scared or excited or both, but we were moving along so quickly that I could never really tell. There was absolutely no wait, so we pretty much walked up to our slot to load a car and then boarded right away. It’s kind of tough making sure Kendall is in securely and have enough time to get myself situated on this kind of car, but we made it work. As the ride started, I could tell she was super excited, but it wasn’t long before she was terrified.

We warned her that it was dark, but the whole not being able to see where you are going really threw her off. I spent over ¾ of the ride hearing her cry and beg for it to stop. I tried to tell her it was OK, but I don't think she was able to hear me, so I spent most of the ride hunched over with my hands on her shoulders. I figured it had to make it a bit better if she could at least feel I was there. I was really hoping she’d love it so we could run back around and ride it at least one more time before we had to meet up with DH, but she wanted no part of that. In hindsight…maybe I should have sent her off to the Peoplemover with my dad (although, I’d be jealous about missing that) and went on again with my mom, but we just decided to move on. I still think she will grow to love it in time...it's just the dark factor she'll need to conquer (more on this logic and reasoning to come).

Kendal really wanted face painting more than anything at this moment…like her treat for surviving Space Mountain. Yeah- that was a big no.

DH and I figured we’d meet up in Fantasyland and either start with Winnie the Pooh or Peter Pan depending on standby times. Peter Pan was already showing a significant wait, so Pooh was the choice. I had texted DH several times and he said they’d meet us, but the wait for them ended up being longer than expected. Why? Because they rode Big Thunder 3x in a row.
So, we waited … and I took pics …

It wasn't until I looked at the pic above did I remember that I had pixie dusted the girls before leaving AKL that morning (yes, those specks in Kendall's hair happens to be glitter reflecting the light). Yeah- I brought some cake glitter with me...makes for awesome pixie dust. It just takes forever to wear off...I guess it's just got more lasting power than the stuff BBB uses. I think this is the first week I haven't noticed any shimmering sections of scalp during bath time- LOL.

I was a little bothered by the time we got to the honey screens as not all of them were working. We did finally get to some that were and I guess we had a number of 1st timers around us because suddenly everyone was in awe. The people next to us immediately started mimicking us and showing their kids how to wipe away the honey and you could hear others saying things like “wow! There are pictures under there!” It was shortly after this point that we came to a screeching halt.

I started chatting it up with the family in front of us…the ones that reaped the benefits of my honey panel knowledge. They were really sweet…family 4…a little one that was about to turn 2 and an older one that turned 4 over the summer. Watching their girls really reminded me of Kendall and Sammie’s first trip. They were all first timers, so she picked my brain while we waited for any tips on touring with kids that age. It was also around this time that we got fed up with the wait and opted to leave the line. I asked a CM if the ride had broken down and I got a “sorry folks, Pooh had a hunny spill we we’re going to have to take a break.” So yes, it’s broken down.

10281736214_969a925b92_z.jpg

So, we head deeper into Fantasyland…but where to go next?

The wait for Peter Pan was still insane, but since we were now all together with our tickets- we decided to pull FPs. Lots of time to burn…so what do you think we did next? *hint-hint* :D

A few thoughts as I'm reading. BTMRR 3X in a row?!?! How awesome is that!?

I think I would lead a perfectly happy life if I never rode Space Mountain again. I recall not being enamored with it in 1989, so much I didn't care to ride it in 2009. Rode it twice in June and yep, no love loss.

FP for Pan is the only way to go.

And your pictures are so good!

She loved it! I was definitely jealous.

You bring up a good point...as far as roller coasters go, Space Mountain really isn't overly special, but I think there's the whole iconic nostalgic factors for me. It was such a rite of passage when I first rode it back in 85...like I'd really conquered something. The reality...it's nothing like the coasters I normally love.

Yeah- the line for Peter pan is just insane...always.

Thanks! I do try. I still would like to upgrade my camera, but in the end...I'm probably just fine with what I have.

Ahhh I love the times when you can just get off a ride and hop right back on to it, especially BTMRR!!! I sure hope we have that luxury when we go in May! Poor Kendell! Space does take some getting used it. Hopefully in the years to come she'll come to love it!

It definitely is a perk to going when the park crowds are light. I think my parents did something similar with Test Track the previous morning. Here's hoping you see lower crowds in May :) I think K will get over her Space Mountain fears...it'll make more sense when I cover the later part of this day.

Great pics as always. Three times in a row on Thunder Mountain? Impressive. Only possible in September by the looks of it or any time where the MK isn't crowded. Totally agree with @Pooh'sBuddy that FP for Peter Pan's Flight is the way to go.

Sammie was definitely a happy girlie getting to ride over and over. Yeah- we've given in to the kids once or twice and waited for Pan...never the right decision.

Loving your trip report so far! It has really gotten me excited for our trip again. (I was bummed for awhile when I found out my favorite ride- Splash Mountain- will be closed when we are there in February.) The pics of the girls twirling are so cute and all of their outfits are adorable. Can't wait to read more. :)

Sorry, but must start with another vent...

Auto...so, I asked my agent whey the other insurer was so intent on pursuing a claim with the truck that was in front of me. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve to have his truck fixed, but it's been nearly a month since this accident and he didn't report it. Sure, maybe he got busy...but logic tells me...if you don't tell your employer that your company vehicle was in a crash and you don't pursue any kind of claim, you probably don't plan on doing anything about it. It's a big F150 and while it's brand new, it's for a very large concrete firm. Lots of the guys that work at these places get all sorts of vehicle damage just from things on the job. i.e. they usually leave well enough alone unless it's major damage. My agent told that while it's not illegal for them to pursue this truck driver, it's not considered best practice since their actions are potential detrimental to another person that is pursuing a claim. Oh- and no word of any kind of independent estimate. I kind of wonder if he's going to blow off his appointment with them next week too. AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!

Medical...while we finally found drs willing to try and run our insurance, my insurance co may not accept the claims. Why? Because even though I pay twice a month for good medical insurance through my employer, they know they can make more $ off of the auto insurance co. So, there's a distinct possibility they are going to reject all of our claims until the auto insurance provides written agreement that they are going to cover it all...which can't happen until we're done with all medical treatment and ready to settle. Maybe I'm wrong in approaching it this way, but I always fund my HSA based on the negotiated rates, copays and deductibles for my plan. If I'm having to pay full price out of pocket, I'm going to drain my HSA, have to dip into savings, and might even have to charge some of this. Sure, in the end I should get a payout from the auto insurance co to cover my expenses, but considering how long everything has taken with my auto claim...it may be Easter before I see the $ to reimburse me for the medical if this happens. It just bites that you can pay for decent medical insurance just to have greed dictate when they want to cover you.

Bittersweet...a girl with Enterprise left me a message. I thought it was going to be bad news about my rental, but it turned out she was calling to suggest I consider them when shopping for a replacement vehicle. While my last 4 vehicles were purchased new, my 2nd vehicle was bought off of an Enterprise lot...as was a couple of my parents' vehicles...and it all turned out well. I also know there's a decent chance they'll have at least 2 of the vehicles I'm considering since I know they were part of their fleet last year. We shall see.

END VENT

Sept 22 continued…

So, you probably guess it…we’re heading into It’s A Small World….

My camera always plays such tricks on me in this one. I take pictures like a madwoman…trying to capture new details I didn’t see the last time. And in my handy dandy image screen…it all looks REALLY good. And then once I upload them, 98% are a blurry shaky mess. Now, I LOOOOOOOOOVE this ride…so, I’ve just decided I must have some kind of IASW equivalent of beer goggles LOL when trying to take pics in there. It’s actually kind of funny when you think about it. So, here are some of my better IASW Beer Goggling shots (hmmm…beer goggle and shots???)…

Seriously, I was in such IASW euphoria, I looked at the next couple after taking them and was like - OMG, just beautiful! Beer Goggles, I tell you!

So yes, that's just how much I love this ride!

Ok, back to better things.

At least I kind of like some of the ones involving my favorite sun…

A few more before the finale…like the sweet little South Seas room hula girls. I still think Donald would have looked SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better on my cake if he'd been dressed like one of them.

And like usual, we ended up in a “log jam” so I took TONS of goggling pictures while we slowly pushed through. And I was singing quietly to myself the whole time and loving every minute of it. Thankfully, Kendall also enjoys this one…but everyone else was kind of miserable and watched me like I was some kind of crazy lady. I’m fine with that!

This one kind of makes me wonder why I'm perfectly fine with IASW, but creeped out by the Munchkins in The Great Movie Ride.

One Little Spark...
PM me if you have questions. I work in insurance. I can't speak to your carriers, and I certainly cannot give you legal advice, but I can tell you what is possibly going on in the back end that you may not be aware of.

Though, if you were just venting to vent, I completely get that. Insurance stinks!

And sadly, we come to the end of our happy little cruise. Yeah...but not without taking a ton of pics of queue details. Over the last few trips, I have A LOT of queue pics. Now that we've gotten past my IASW cake disaster, I can look at these pics as design materials.

We still had plenty of time before Peter Pan FP time, so when all else fails…ride a horse. Seriously.

My parents had no desire to do this, so they sat and watched. I don’t always actually get on a horse, but after everything that had happened with this trip…I was getting myself up on a carousel horse.
