Looks like Disney was really interested in these two smaller companies, both had some issues independent of Disney, and deal fell through.

I'd assume Disney would be looking for alternative companies if they were so committed to these two such small organizations in the first place. A real desire for these things, it seems.

As far as application in theme parks?

Epcot would be interesting.

But I'd see it more initially as Cast Member Transportation. Epcot has a long backstage route run by CM buses. This could improve efficiency.

Based on some other things I've seen/read, I think autonomous vehicles are going to take longer to get onto property than originally thought.

Oceaneering showcased a self-driving shuttle at IAAPA. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney was in talks with them.
