i know this is a really old post but I just wanted to comment on it because of the truth it speaks. You are very right that this is not the capitalism you grew up admiring because it is not capitalism at all. We are all fortunate (sarcasm on) to have lived during a time that our country has graduated from capitalism and moved onto the wonderful world of crony capitalism. Lucky us!!! The capitalism in crony capitalism is of course misnomer because it is not capitalism at all, it is fascism (mussolini form of fascism not the nazi nationalist socialist version).

Actually the Italian and German versions fascism are identical as both involve the State having ultimate control of private resources.

They are not identical -- Mussolini's version of Fascism is that of corporate Fascism. Nazi's were socialists.

“Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power”
Benito Mussolini

Not the best sources, but it provides the gist.

Saying they are identical because it has "state having ultimate control of private resources" is akin to saying fascism and communism are the same. The nuances and details matter when drawing a distinction -- and there is a distinction

but for those living under such a system -- yes it is the same hell and distinctions don't matter

A distinction without a difference, Both involve state control of private enterprise What's known in the US as the Nazi party was in Germany the NSDAP or in english the National Socialist Workers Party which in actuality did not embrace socialist policies.
