Soarin' Across America Coming to Disneyland and Disney World
Learn about the new Soarin' Across America from your favorite flight captain and plan your next ride through the skies.disneyparksblog.com
Soarin over California was always a favorite of mine, and I’ve found World to be a big disappointment in failing to capture the magic of the original. It’s not a bad ride by any means but compared to the original it was a letdown, but the ride format is really amazing and I’ve always felt there was more opportunity here. It’ll be interesting to see how a third film does.
IMO, the key will be framing. World had a tendency to interject “excitement” into the adventure, like an elephant trumpeting at the center of the screen, a blue whale jumping out just as we pass, or an iceberg collapsing in the background (which is kinda weird to glorify). Compare that to California which was much more subdued but in doing so immersive. World was also adamant it visited major worldy sites, which is cool but after seeing the headline there’s not much else in the environment around it; I feel like California’s environments while less immediately iconic stick with you more on vibes (the kayaks, the orange grove, the surfing scene etc).
I’d love for America to return to California’s filming and directorial style. Rereading Team Space’s project, they’re on the mark! Especially beginning with diverse nature before transitioning to the busier cities (but not feeling the need to hit everything). If this is the lineup, I’d be very happy with the end result
