No spoilers for the four people who haven't see it yet. I have only seen about 4 of the preceding films, but was filled in by the friend who took me to see it. I enjoyed it, I didn't have any problem following the storyline (with the cursory knowledge that I did have of the proceeding 419 films) and I was surprised at the emotional impact the film had on a majority of the theatre audience.

When that thing happened, the person next to me was openly weaping. At least im pretty sure, it was tough tell through the tears in my own eyes.

These movies have been my favorite film series and characters since i was 12. Longer if you count hearing rumors and trailers of an Iron Man movie while playing Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Its incredibly satisfying to watch the finale to this huge chapter that has grown up as i have.

I think the good done (clarifying the story, telling the story better, Vincent Price narration) outweighs the bad (Wedding music, turning Melanie into Constance 2.0) I far preferred the original ending with Melanie saving you from the Phantom from beyond the grave but the Phantom still follows you.
