Challenge 12: The End...Pick Your Poison
This is it. You two have made it to the last challenge of this competition. Out of fifteen contestants, you have been realized as the top two. But there can only be one Apprentice. Who will it be? For this final week, each of you has one simple, yet seemingly daunting task; design me a blue-sky park located anywhere in the world.Anywhere. Will it be Disneyland's oft-desired IP based third park? Or perhaps a breathtaking sequel to Shanghai Disneyland? Or even the fabled fifth gate of Walt Disney World? Or maybe, just maybe, you'll take the risk and design a park at a brand new resort? (If you do so, please focus on the park itself more than the entire resort) Now, I don't need a script for every ride and a menu for every ride. I just want to know the basics of an overall awe-inspiring idea. How does your park fit into the resort? What lands will there be? What will each land contain? What will make-up each ride? What will be the motifs of the restaurants and shops? These are just a few examples of the basic, yet complex questions you've got to answer. Give me short blurbs about as long as those found on the official Disney Parks websites. I want to see a concept that would have made Eisner right out checks on the spot. You have the talent, now bring it!

Disneyland Brazil

BrazilFinal_zps49ae6308.jpg

After analysis of growing markets, we decided the best place to put a new park is in the growing markets of Brazil. Specifically, here, just south of the National Botanical park:

https://www.google.com/maps/@-23.1265964,-44.7097696,14z

The area is largely undeveloped, but has convenient transportation and l populations with towns to the north and south which can be further developed and grown to support tourism and cast member communities.

The plot also has beachfronts, which would be modified into a private beach setup to support Disney guests, as well as host a beachfront resort (or two in the future!).

A dock would also be built in the area to allow DCL ships to dock here in the future and tie the resort into a unique cruise itinerary.

Disneyland Brazil, as a resort, within five years of opening, will feature two gates. One a castle Park, and the other a water park. Room is reserved for a potential third gate amusement park to be developed in the future. In addition, two resorts and a unique Downtown Disney experience will open with the castle Park itself.

To encourage day trip tourism from neighboring Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, a high speed rail system, partially subsidized by Disney, will be built between the two cities along state highway 116, with a monorail connector at the Guaratingueta station to link to the Parks.

The Castle Gardens is a new take on a classic. The Castle will be Beast's Castle from Beauty and the Beast. Surrounding the Castle to the south will be gardens with winding paths and water features. Below the Castle is a Beauty and the Beast Ride.

Fireworks seating will be availble on elevated platforms in the Garden area and to the North of the Castle in Fantasyland.

In addition, the Castle will host a restaurant (Be Our Guest) and the Bippity Boppity Boutique.

Adventureland

Adventureland is completely reimagined, and sits as a transition between Tomorrowland and Frontierland.

Frontierland

Fantasyland

Small World
Peter Pan
Hunny Hunt
Dumbo
Carousel

Hollywoodland
Hollywoodland is a tribute to the Hollywood that never was. It features Stark Village, Toontown and Hollywood Blvd.

Toontown has a unique theme, being black, gray and white during day, but a Silly Symphony style technicolor look and feel at night

Silly Symphonies Zoo (Kids Playplace)
Donald and Crews Build a Boat (Kids Water Playplace)
Epic Mickey Minigame (this will cause areas to "light up" with color at certain points)
Simulator Ride through the Disney Classic cartoons, with Oswald in charge of the runaway trolley
Agents of SHIELD (from Team Air's earlier challenge)
Tower of Terror

Entertainment

The evening show, for the first time, will encompass the entire park. Starting with the electrical parade, as it passes through the park, the buildings will light up with their own projections and lights. By the end of wishes, the entire park is aglow.

In addition, drone technology with mounted lights will be used to offer unique light shows where fireworks are not safe or feasable.

The night show will even encompass the DTD and Waterfront areas, and when a ship is docked, it will also participate with shore mounted projections on the ship as well as on board fireworks.

Summary

Disneyland Brasil will offer a unique opportunity for Disney. Due to the remote nature of the location, there is plenty of room to grow, and Brazil has a thriving market to build upon, both with regulars and tourists.

In the future, expansions such as an extra gate and possibly even a soccer franchise and stadium could be added to increase regular draw. Also, high end condominiums and luxury communities have plenty of space to thrive to the north and south of the park location.

Disneyland Brazil is of a scope and scale that Disney hasn't attempted since Walt Disney World, and certainly will prove to be a shining star in the Disney Park family.

  • The creativity of your core concept is amazing! The Alliance idea to connect the park is like the next level above DisneySea. Like S.E.A. but deeper!
  • The use of AoK as the park name was a questionable choice...it just doesn't seem like a park name, but a group name.
  • Paris was an interesting choice for expansion.
  • Website is clean but could be a bit more exciting.
  • Map looks good, though I question the need for a monorail, unless used as an attraction as in DL.
  • The use of underground and indoor lands is perfect for Parisian weather and expansion.
  • What you call "the current parking structure" is actually the metro station...so the walkway still makes sense.
  • That futuristic entrance would definitely lure people in.
  • Logos: nice idea, wonderful execution.
  • HoK is a great way to introduce people to the park, though Horizons would need a lot of tweaking to fit in.
  • Space Transport Center would be a really neat environment to be in, but I feel there would need to be some more substance there.
  • A nice round set of attractions in the Desolate Planet, but that name would need to be changed...very tough to market.
  • Again, Prehistoric Era probably should have gone with another name, like Prehistoria or the like.
  • However, another very well rounded land with the rapids, spinner, coaster and play area, along with food options.
  • Clockton/Steampunk City is impressive, and I know you clarified the difference, but I feel it would still be too similar to Discoveryland.
  • That being said, the land still has a varying, fun lineup of attractions that would make a great effor to distinguish the two lands.
  • Some more family rides could have been better in Mount Olympus, along with a TS offering.
  • The use of an underground facility for Atlantis is perfect. There were also some really fun attractions, though it seemed like a tad too many when compared to all the other above ground counterparts.
  • Overall, really awesome job with the theme, originality, and utilization of your abilities to create an awesome new park!

After analysis of growing markets, we decided the best place to put a new park is in the growing markets of Brazil. Specifically, here, just south of the National Botanical park:

(A special version will happen with bigger and better floats during Carnaval)

  • Wonderful, though obvious choice to take that step into Brazil.
  • Perfect five year plan, as well as the high speed rail and DCL.
  • Absolutely love everything you churned out for Downtown Disney and the Disney Waterfront, but I really wish you had put more of that effort into the park itself. I specifically requested far less about the resort, and to focus on the park itself. If DD was situated right in the park as an alternate entrance, like in Shanghai, it would be okay, but it isn't.
  • Great re-imagining of MSUSA...familiar but new and charming. And you know I'd love a '50s MSUSA.
  • I have to say, your new hub execution is one of my favorite parts of your submission...it is so innovative and is truly a game-changer.
  • Nice lineup of attractions in Adventureland, truly capitalizing on that "adventure" feel, though a tad light.
  • The new fusion of elements in Tomorrowland seems like a weaker concept, though it's roster of attractions definitely make up for it :)Grid Arena:)
  • I'm kind of disappointed with the lack of attraction descriptions but with an abundance of DD descriptions. The priorities needed to be shifted.
  • Frontierland...now that'swhat I like and expected to see! That video is very well put together. From Fort Wilderness to Johnny Appleseed, this is definitely your best and strongest land, and I loved your takes off of HM and WRE.
  • Fantasyland seems very familiar, and I doubt the placement of FNSV. Also, it seems it was typed very quickly with such abbreviated attraction titles.
  • Hollywoodland has a thrilling, attractive set of rides that would make it grand, fun area to be in.
  • The nighttime show sounds amazing, but I wish you had gone into more detail.
  • Overall, I think you had a really awesome park concept with innovative ideas, but there were obviously some issues that resulted in a lack of content in certain areas.

THE FINALE

Team Land @Zweiland @RMichael21 @IDInstitute @Robert Butnarasu @JokersWild

I was thoroughly impressed by the effort, commitment, and creativity behind this teams final proposal. Not only did this team combine the abilities of one another to create a very good park, but this team also reached out and injected vibrancy into the old hub-and-spoke concept. However like all proposals there were shortcoming’s and triumphs, all of which will factor into my final decision. My full critiques are below:

I feel that this park had a good concept, but it went wrong somewhere. I’m not sure where it is though. Granted it did have its stronger and more fitting parts, but overall it is an organized mess. Your strongest part was the entrance land, it was exciting, creative, and everything a land based in the future should be. After that everything fell a part, it was like biting into a Mugshots Meat Lover where that first bite is glorious and then it falls apart. The only other strong land was Steampunk City. The others simply did not fit or work, it felt as though you guys could not decide between a time traveling park, mythical park, or a future park. The mix of them all was really weird and strange. The lands themselves were really cool such as Atlantis (who does not want to see Atlantas) and even Mount Olympus was really cool, but I feel these lands could have been combined into one larger ‘Ancient Empires’ land. I think that could have given you guys more room to explore different worlds and build a more cohesive park. Overall you had good lands, they just did not mesh well together and the backstory was too complex for my taste. Another down-mark was the choice of DLP. Now of course choosing DLP for a new project is not bad, but instead of a third-gate I would have preferred an overhaul of WDS.

I did like your presentation, it was organized, clean, and cohesive. The site was well done, but again there was too much focus on the organization then the park itself if that makes sense.

This could have been a stronger park, a stronger proposal, and stronger swan song for a group that has created some really good things in the past.

This was a very unique proposal, not your best, but very good. I felt that the participation by all members was great and everyone in this team used their talents as much as they could. However, all parks have their shortcoming’s that ultimately decide who wins.

The biggest problem was that it did not focus on the park enough. I loved Downtown Disney and The Waterfront, but it was too much. Despite how good the descriptions were I feel that this was an opportunity for englanddg to limit it and go with his gut. Your park suffered as a result, this is dis-heartening for me because it had the potential to be something great. You guys had so many possibilities with this park, but most importantly the opportunity to revolutionize the Disney experience. The choice to go with Brazil was very smart, Brazil is a developing Disney loving nation that would love this park. It also opens up the possibility for nearly 400 million people to experience a Disney park. This in my opinion was yours to loose because of the opportunity to make something breathtaking, ground breaking, and creative.

Website, this needed one. I think on one hand it would have shown the lack of content for the one thing that truly mattered; the park. It also would have given you the chance to make an even deeper impression. The graphics were nice, especially the map but it is a shame it was not included in the final post.

Overall this team had a great opportunity to really take a home run and create something stunning, something that would change the Disney experience. But everything except the park distracted this team from achieving this.

HUGE thanks to everyone...
Before we decide this thing, I just want to throw out a HUGE thank you to everyone who has a part in this amazing four month event. :D Without this wonderful community around me, this thing would never take off. To tell the truth, I had some doubts about this season. I figured people had done it already so they would have no interest. I thought it would flop. Then I had to keep on expanding team numbers throughout the registration process. It was a beautiful sight to have people sign up for such a commitment. THANK YOU...

@englanddg, congratulations on making it this far and it was a close race, but in the end it just didn't click. Way to stick it out, both of you!
