The Park Formerly Known as Disney's Hollywood Studios? Yep ...

What's sad is it wouldn't take that much to fix. Like Epcot the foundation is there. It just needs a cohesive theme and the reversal of years of neglect of both existing attractions and empty buildings / plots of available land.
It would appear that the current strategy instead is to rip apart everything built on the foundation, and then take a jackhammer to the foundation, poking as many holes and making it as unstable as possible for whatever crap they build upon it (if anything is even built at all)...

The more destruction the foundation receives, the harder it's going to be to make proper repairs when, or rather IF someone with any actual sense and passion finally is allowed to get their hands on the company again. From the rumors of either Staggs or Rasulo being the potential frontrunners for Iger's successor, it doesn't seem likely to happen anytime soon. And heaven knows what the parks are going to endure throughout the next decade or so. Staggs seems no better than Iger, and Rasulo is actually somehow even worse (we've seen the sort of embarrassing debacles to expect from him with nextgen)...

Beauty and the Beast Live Show...been there done that..try to update the show with Rapunzel and you have a packed audience. Move over to the Voyage of the Little Mermaid...transform this theatre into a live Frozen show and you have utter madness. Meet and greet for the frozen sisters in the animation building and you'll need to have increased security. Turn the backlot hot sets by Toy Story Mania into a version of Ratatouille from Paris and you have an instant hit. Bring a watered down Carsland to the area covered by Lights, Motors, Action! And you will have incredible lines. Keep the backlot but turn Honey I Shrunk The kids playground into Bugs Life..... there's room to bring additional kiddie rides to make it kid friendly (like DCA) ...instant hit. Take out the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular and use the ground to add a huge addition onto StarWars. Mega Hit on your hands....Last, but not least, update the tired Great Movie Ride..it deserves a major facelift. You instantly have a two day park on your hands for the full family to enjoy. P.S. Move the hat over to Fantasmic. What an entrance! It would be a great addition to the show.

Yes, the production studio between the parks is a functioning production facility, although smaller than it started out.

Yup, TNA Wrestling films in Orlando and guests can go and be in the audience, and they have fully functioning soundstages that, while mainly used for Halloween Horror Nights, can be used for production use, so calling it a studio is perfectly fair.

MGM-Studios used to be the same, and a hive of production activity, but sadly nothing has been filmed in years (despite Streets of America being a great set) so it's a bit of a poke in the eye to still call it that.

I think the best name suggested so far is 'Disney Hollywood Adventure' - where the Disney movies come to life. It fits having Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards, the Chinese Theater, but also Star Wars, Frozen and whatever other franchises they plug in. Let's just hope DHA gets rid of the BAH.

It sounds small but more characters like the citizens of Hollywood would help the studios theme I feel. Have a slapstick comedy style camera crew roaming about or some other characters that I can't think of. Would help it to feel more like a studio IMO and would be relatively cheap and easy to do (something TDO seem to like)

All possible, but current management would ask one question: "Why?" From their POV the park is working well and already has a "new" attraction in TSMM. No need for any investment in the near future.

Here is some DHS rumors posted on Touring Plan. I'll posted the ones the pertain to DHS or whatever the next name is so there isn't really 6 on DHS list

SATURDAY SIX: Six of Disney’s (Not So) Secret Plans for the Next 5 Years by Derek Burgan

# 6 – The Sorcerer’s Hat ain’t going anywhere…

Haters gonna hate. (photo by Matt Cleary and Brandon Glover)
The era of nightmares doesn’t seem to be coming to an end anytime soon over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Jim Hill says that despite the fact that many guests see the giant Sorcerer’s hat sitting in the middle of the park as the biggest eyesore since Cinderella Castle was turned into a giant pink birthday cake, it serves an important purpose to the park. More to the point, the stage below the ugly hat plays a vital roll in allowing DHS to hold various live shows and draw the crowds away from popular attractions such as Tower of Terror and Toy Story Midway Mania.

# 5 – Star Wars Land is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Tatooine Idol Experience, where you can sing Princess Leia’s “Life Day”, “Lapti Nek” from Jabba’s Palace or Weird Al’s “Yoda” (photo by Matt Cleary and Brandon Glover)
Disney Hollywood Studios? Funny you should mention that as the rumored Star Wars Land seems closer than ever to coming to fruition. The good news? It will be worth the wait! Are you familiar with a little place called Diagon Alley? Seems that Walt Disney Imagineering had a private tour of Universal’s newest land and immediately went back to their corporate overlords saying they need more money for the upcoming Star Wars projects in DHS. Why? Because as Len Testa said, Disney can’t just be as good as Potter, it has to be better. “Say goodbye to Echo Lake,” said Jim, “that’s Tatooine.” Look for a huge Star Wars presence, so much that it will become the clear identity of the parks.
A long stretch of the park from near the entrance all the way to Star Tours is going to become essentially a Star Wars corridor filled with retail and dining opportunities. Like the re-do of California Adventure several yeas ago, look for A, B, and C ticket attractions such as an X-Wing spinner ride (think the Dumbo ride crossed with the interactivity of Kang & Kodos Twirl ‘n’ Hurl.) The oft-maligned Sounds Dangerous building (which has been used for the Carbon Freeze Me experience during Star Wars Weekends) could become the permanent home of the Jedi Training Academy. Jim added that Disney might also have the answer to the Wizarding World’s interactive wands in the form of “The Force.”
What’s staying? Hollywood & Vine (thanks to its popular Play ‘n Dine character meals,) the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular (because Disney now owns the full rights to Indy after having purchased LucasFilm) and the American Idol Experience theater (which, as we just found out, will be closing at the end of this month, most likely to become the new home for the Frozen Sing-A-Long Celebration.)

# 3 – The Osborne Lights could be changing its name to one based off a…. television show?

You think this is bad, wait till 2 Broke Girls sponsors the 50′s Prime Time Cafe. (photo by Matt Cleary and Brandon Glover)
Say it ain’t so Jim. Turns out that in the last several years Disney has fully acquired everything that has to do with the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. So now they can do whatever they want, whenever they want and one of the things they may want to do is turn this beloved experience into a piece of corporate synergy with a reality television show on ABC Television. That’s right, The Great Christmas Light Fight could replace one of WDW’s best attractions.
This humble author, who watches more TV than any human being on Earth every should, doesn’t even remember The Great Christmas Light Fight from last December. However, the show was a success, drawing ABC’s biggest amount of viewers in its time slot in over 5 years along with drawing boffo numbers in the key Adults 18-49 demo. The series was renewed for a second season and ABC even ordered a Great Halloween Fright Fight special.
We can assume that a more sane mind will prevail and our favorite Osborne Lights will stay Osborne Lights but with Disney looking for any possible way to acquire every last Dollar Bill, Yen, Euro, and Brazilian Real in the world there will always be a slight chance that we see the purple cat changed over to a purple Duffy the Disney Bear and the hidden razorback into a hidden Gillette Fusion ProGlide Razor.

# 2 – The Great Movie Ride is leaving, but not anytime soon….

This is a REAL photo. If you have enough money you eat inside the Wizard of Oz room at the Great Movie Ride. If you don’t have much money, you can pack your own lunch and dine with Your Humble Author at Stitch’s Great Escape. (photo courtesy of DisneyWeddings.com
Talk about a double whammy, not only is that Sorcerer’s Hat staying, but the gorgeous Great Movie Ride facade looks to be on the way out. This is where if you were Darth Vader you’d be yelling NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Well, let’s look at the silver linings, shall we? I don’t want to say this ride hasn’t been updated in a while, but Ellen’s Energy Adventure called and just asked if its ever going to change. The last time the Great Movie Ride was updated George Bush was president. GEORGE BUSH SENIOR. So if Disney’s not going to change the Great Movie Ride, maybe it’s not so bad that it’s going away. Jim Hill added that its replacement would more than likely using the ride technology that everyone seems to be going gaga over in Disneyland Paris’ new Ratatouille attraction. That could be cool.
Fans of the Great Movie Ride can also breathe a sign of relief as the attraction isn’t going anywhere any time soon as it is already booked solid for private events for the next three years. Private events are held throughout Walt Disney World, but Disney Weddings takes it to the next level, offering guests the ability to book receptions in places such as the Living Seas pavilion and American Adventure Rotunda in Epcot along with the Great Movie Ride in Hollywood Studios. Not surprisingly, the ability to be able to make a toast while sitting in the room with The Wizard of Oz has great appeal. to the point where Disney is booked 150 dates in advance. No new bookings are being taken for the Great Movie Ride, and those who have dates in the future are being approached to possibly change to a different venue in order for Disney to be able to close down the attraction, but for right now it’s staying as is. WE ARE ALL IN YOUR DEBT BRIDES AND BRIDE-ZILLAS OF THE WORLD.

I thought that they they were gonna call it Disney Studios. But Jim Hill also said it so I must be wrong.
This makes the most sense. It's a small change, drops the implication of a working studio associated with DHS and unites their holdings enough to include disney aimantion, pixar, lucasfilm, disneyJR, disney channel, muppet holdings, marvel when they can and any other production entities they own or acquire.

Florida Adventure would be a rehash of the misguided DCA. What's left there showcasing CA now that the Whoopi show is gone? I haven't beent there in 10 years or more. Maybe it would work if cast as an adventure in itself in Florida and not a celebration of FL like the original DCA idea seemed to be.

I agree with that. Just needs some house keeping and some new furniture and it's as good as new.
Of course to get this park in shape will cost a minimum of 800 million.

as of recently. i think going down a Stars Wars path is definitely reaching out, it's using a brand that had nothing to do with Disney and Disney's brand to promote their parks. it's an unfit piece that they are just shoving in. it ruins the magic imo. same with Avatar.
Most people associate Star Wars with Disney now-a-days so how is it shoving it in when it's wanted and half the park is unused to begin with?

How about a bit of armchair Imagineering shall we? I say keep the name, but don't make it out to be a working studio. Focus on what each "studio" has presented.

Opening Act: When guests enter the main gate they step right into the Hollywood of times gone by! There they see a few famous buildings that existed or still exist in Hollywood. They can even drop in on a classic Sci-fi tv show on the Tower of Terror or take a ride through the radio with music legends, Aersomith! (Work in progress). You may also experience a live stage show of one of your favorite Disney movies from the past. (Think something like Disneylands Beauty or Tangled show but with much more) *they could retell Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. (This area is now the new home to Osborne Lights as well!)

Act Two: Disney Animation Studios. After seeing the sights of Hollywood from the 50's, take a right and see some old and new favorite cartoons from Disney Animation. For the first time in forever you can experience Frozen in front of your eyes on stage! Your friends from the Disney Channel and Disney Jr are there to meet you as well. Finally, see the World through Walt's eyes and realize how he made it from cartoonist to theme park creator at One Man's Dream.

Act Three: Disney-Pixar Studios: Take a walk through Andy's room before playing with the gang from Toy Story in Toy Story Midway Mania! Then be prepared for the Big Blue as Crush takes you on a ride of your life on the EAC. Following the wildly successful release of Finding Dory, this indoor coaster is something you won't want to miss!

Act Four : Disney Studios: requires relocation of Jack Sparrow. Possible addition of Marvel characters that they can actually use... Could also tie in ABC.

Act Five: Muppet Studios: relocate existing Muppet area w/updated 4D show, pizza place, and fountain.

Act Six: Lucas Studios: Star Wars and Indy.

--wow...actual lands that make sense! True theme and storytelling. Isn't that what Disney knows how to do?

Well, it is an absolute shame it got to this point, but better than putting their head in the sand. Cautiously optimistic I suppose.

I'm not creative enough to even guess what the new name/theme will be.

Most associate theme park versions of Star Wars with Disney and have since 1987. It is their best bit they have to add to the Studios.
