Trip Report THE ONE WITH A FEW MAGICIANS IN AUGUST 🤡COMPLETE🤡

Hello again.
I have another trip booked in less than three weeks so I need to power through this. So let’s go.....

In my last TR you all convinced me to take a side trip to WDW after dropping my son off at school. I was on the fence until one poster (I am too lazy to look it up) said they would never pass up an opportunity to visit WDW. I agree.

Not too long after that we had a big family get together and I asked if anyone wanted to drive down to Florida with X and I then go to WDW with me for a couple days. My 16YO nephew said yes but he is kind of a nervous type so I did not take him seriously. A few days later his mother, my SIL said, “you know J was serious right?”

I went on DVC and booked a room immediately. I could not believe my luck when I got a 1BR at Boardwalk. I have been trying for 12 years to stay there. Yay!!!

THEN my SIL, also being the nervous type, said she would go too. WHAT???
She was just there at Christmas and she is going with me in September for food and wine. This is way out of character for her.

THEN my youngest, Dre, decides he wants to go. Wait. We are not all going to fit in X’s
truck.

SIL suggests she fly down with the boys and meet me at Disney. That is what we did. Let me tell you about it......

I took the bag to the front desk. I was in shock. The woman at the front desk asked me if I needed the bag. “No, but I need the wine! And the chocolate, it’s not open.”

Priorities. You have them.

Bed bugs would have sent me over the edge. During a previous stay at that hotel our room had a wall full of mold behind a curtain. Like I said, never again!

Saturday 8/24

X and I left the hotel (for the last time!!!!) and he took me to pick up my rental. I rented from Alamo because I could drop it at the car care center on WDW property. I picked it up in Boca which cost more than going to PBI but I didnt want X to have to drive me to West Palm. And then drive back again.

I always take a picture of the license plate in case I forget what I am driving
This time it was an Altima. I am shopping for a new car so I appreciated the chance to drive it. I liked it but the seat was not comfortable to me and the rearview mirror was in my line of vision anytime I wanted to turn right. I had to duck down to see. I dont want to spend the next 10 years or so ducking everytime I want to make a right turn!

The drive up was pretty uneventful. Apparently there was a Florida/Miami game in Orlando. The cars kept flying by me with their flags flapping or their back windshields written on. “Go Gators” or “U”.

I stopped at publix to get some groceries. The usual; water, fruit, breakfast items, er.....beverages.

Then this

Why is it such a bad and blurry photo you ask? Well, for one, I am driving. Second there was a policeman right behind me. Seriously??? The one time I am in complete control. The speed. The trajectory. All of it. Completely up to me. And there is a police car on my butt. I took the picture quickly then put the phone back on the hands free mount. He pulled up next to me on my right and started matching my speed. I just looked straight ahead and drove.

The police and I went our separate ways and I pulled into Saratoga Springs and was able to take these. Just because I could

Aaaah. Disney at last.

I went to the front desk. They thanked me for checking in on line and said they had sent me a notification that my room was ready.
“But I didn’t get a....”
DING went my phone.

I had requested near a pool, because I thought I might relax a bit and read my book, and near a bus stop, because I thought the parks might be calling my name. (The parks won!!!)

I was put in the Grandstand area. Although I have never stayed there I am familiar with it as it is right next to the Treehouses and we would use their bus stop frequently when we stayed there in February.

I found my building and parked the car. Then I shlepped the groceries and my bags in. It wasn't that bad. I brought a cooler bag from home and had all the cold stuff in there which I kept cold with a couple frozen water bottles from X. Then I bought a reusable bag at publix, to replace my thrown out ant ridden magic kingdom reusable bag, and used that for the dry goods. As for the drinks, I took a couple of waters and left the rest in the trunk.

Time stamp on the first (blurry) pix was 3:00

See my keys already hanging?

I thought it was weird that the seat was left up. Are they always left like that or did a man clean my toilet Remember the days of the paper seal that went around the disinfected toilet?

See anything missing @Matt and Kelly ?

Saturday 8/24 cont

I was starving. I had bought a sandwich at publix. Not the yummy kind from the deli, the line was too long and I had a Disney to get to. X had also bestowed a cold one on me so I sat outside to enjoy my lunch.

I was put on the ground floor which I have to say creeped me out as a solo traveler. Not a fan of the ground floor. I was a fan of the view, however.

And look over there! It’s a treehouse! Yay!

After lunch I wanted to head to MK. But first I had to figure out how to lock the slider.

Look at this. 4 slots???

But only two locks?? Which dont seem to line up? I did not get a picture of the “locks” but each lever controls two locks that closed somewhat like an upper and lower jaw. So complicated. Did not make me feel more comfortable about the whole first floor thing.

SSR was our first DVC home, so it holds a special place in my heart. I hear a lot of negativity about it, but I always appreciate the sereneness of the surroundings. As fabulous as the bigger, single (ish) building resorts are (Wilderness, Contemporary...) I like that I rarely see or hear anyone at Saratoga unless we're at the bus stop or the pool or the Carriage House.

I agree about SSR. My SIL loves it!! I worked so hard to get Boardwalk for this trip and she asked why we werent staying at Saratoga
