Trip Report THE ONE FOR MOTHER’S DAY IN MAY (duh)🥑COMPLETE🥑

Welcome home!
Said no one in my house upon my return.

Who went? Well.....if you have read any of my previous trip reports (Christmas, February, March and April) you know I multitask when in Florida. This trip was no different. My oldest son, X, was finishing up his second year of college in SoFlo and I went down to help him pack up and move out.
The original plan (why is there always a plan A, B.. etc?) was to pack him up, drive his truck to WDW and put it on a transport. Then we would spend a few days in WDW and fly home. I even bought the plane tickets. But, do you know how much it cost to transport his car from Florida to Long Island? Just north of OMG!!!! Plan B: no transport, no flight home. We would be driving. We also had to trim 1.5 days from our Disney stay to allow for travel time. (Heavy sigh)

We stayed at Saratoga Springs in a studio,
May 10-13. I bought him a two day park hopper as he does not have an AP like the rest of the family.

Ok, we have the who, what, where, when and why. Lets get to it!

DAY ONE/MAY 10
I woke up at 4:00 am and left the house at 4:43. Ant drove me to the airport and we got there at 4:57 (he was driving slow this morning). My flight was at 6:10 going into Fort Lauderdale. My son’s school is equidistant between FLL and West Palm (PBI) and they both have the early morning flight. One is 6:00am and one is 6:10am so I usually book the cheapest. However, if I am renting a car I prefer FLL. PBI has their car rental offsite and it can be a hassel.

The morning before, at 6:10am I had checked in and gotten A37😮. What? I havent seen the A’s since SW started charging for better boarding assignments. Maybe the flight is empty?

The flight was not empty! The announcement came that there would be about 10 empty seats. I sat in an aisle in row 4. ROW 4!!!!
There was a gentleman at the window and our middle seat remained empty. Go figure. I have decided that I do not love sitting up that close. I am not sure why but it felt different, bumpier or something. Perhaps I was thrown off because I had a shortened horizon to look at? Or maybe I am just used to the back? Who knows.

It was an uneventful flight and we landed 20 minutes early. My son had a 10:00am final (seriously, who gives finals on the very last day of class?) and couldn’t be there when I landed. I could wait but it would take him 30 minutes each way which would have us close to noon. We still had a few trips to make to the storage unit and I wanted to be on the road to Disney by 1:00. We decided I would Uber.

Walking to the ride share area I passed the shuttle for the tri-rail. The tri-rail is a train that originates in Miami. I am not sure how far north it goes, I think it goes to West Palm. Thus the tri, as in three airports (I think). Anyhow, there is a station not 5 minutes from my son’s school. I made a mental note to look into that for next time.

I found Marco, my Uber driver and said, “hello, how are you today?” He said, “NO English”. Great. We hit some traffic and my 30 minute $36 drive became a 45 minute just shy of $50 (with tip) drive. On the plus side, I had time to research the tri-rail. If I read correctly there is a Free shuttle from FLL to the station and my trip to Boca Raton would cost $5! and take 30 minutes. Sorry Marco. No more Uber from FLL for me!

I had Marco drop me at a Dunkin Donuts near my sons school. (Yes, @VincciL , the one on Yamato). I got a tea and an egg sandwich and sat at a table outside.

I do love palm trees.

I was sitting there, eating, checking TR’s to see what @Back!Elbow!Shoulders! @NunuBelle and @NothatDonald were up to in their livish reports. I also knew @Tuvalu had left the day before and wanted to see if she made it home safely. A man pulls into a parking spot just in front of me. Then another man drives up and words are exchanged. Man1 cut off man2 or something. Man1 invites man2 to say it to his face. Man2 parks. Man1 gets out of his car and he is a huge bald guy (why are the always bald?) Man2 gets out of his car and he is smaller than man1 but not small. They are yelling, cursing etc. Man1 gets in man2’s face. Man2 pushes man1 away. Uh oh. Do I call 911? This is not going to end well. Man1 just keeps going back in man2’s face. Man 2 is, esentially cornered and keeps pushing man1 away. What do I do? Millers Ale house had just opened and I was hoping someone in there, having dealt with belligerent drunks, would know what to do. A scrawny, barely post pubescent guy comes out of Millers. Really? But another guy and his wife happen to be walking by and the guy (we can call him guy3) is bigger than man1 and man2 put together. Now man1 is throwing out racial slurs (man2 is hispanic man1 has to be a FLID) guy3 puts himself between the men. Man2 says he just wanted a cup of coffee. Guy3 says “I will buy you that cup of coffee” and walks him into DD with his arm still around him. Man1 turns to run his errand, notices me for the first time and says “sorry, that was bad” then went into Jersey Mikes to get his sandwich.

All before 11:00am.

We spent a little bit of time just sitting near Tower of Terror and listening to the music from the 20s-40s. I was so incredibly happy just sitting there, in an empty park, listening to my favorite music, eating the free popcorn, looking at all the little details I had never had a chance to see before. The $125 per ticket was totally worth it to me in that moment. It's not often you get total relaxation while inside a Disney park but it happened for me that night.
That sounds so nice. I am sold!!!

It never ceases to amaze me that in a HOT climate with concrete to walk on in the parks, there is so little effort put into shady areas, for people to go to. Many people come from colder climates (such as me), and can get light-headed under the Florida sun, if exposed for too long. C'mon Disney, this is a health concern. It's one thing for them to take away so many benches in recent years, but it's more of a concern with the lack of SHADE.
Yes. Not sure what the thought process is with the whole shade issue.
Trees...good
Shade...good
Oxygen...good
People not passing out from heat stroke...good

one of the staff at the store I visited in Colorado Springs yesterday brought homemade guac to our lunch meeting and it was actually pretty good. I guess the avocado used as a dip may not be as stomach turning as it is in the vegetable form... hmmmm… ?!
No, it is still stomach turning! 🤭🤢🤮

DAY 2/ MAY 12 cont

After our time with Mr. McQueen it was time to redeem our fastpasses for Rockin Rollercoaster. But first, mother nature called and I answered. I even took a photo because I can not recall if this sign had always been in the ladies room or if it was new. A woman looked at me taking the picture and proceeded to tell me all about the new non smoking policy. Hey, she was trying to be helpful so no eyerolling!!!

It was early still but not very crowded. I felt even the day before were low crowds. Wait times were on the higher side but there did not seem to be lots of people clogging up the walkways. (Tangent)

I never noticed this either. Maybe I am usually trying to herd everyone around?

I am not sure why I took these next two. They are not random, I know that. I take pictures to remind me but my memory fails me at the moment. I also did not take a ton of notes this day. You will soon see why...

As we were getting in our limo it occurred to me how many hands touch the overhead restraint every day. I said to X, “we need to wash our hands after this ride.”
He being the smartass that he is said he was going to lick the restraint. I may have thrown up in my mouth a little at that comment. Anyhow, that is what we decided to do for our pix. It looks like I am doing the typical tongue out/yay I am a rocker who happens to be on a rollercoaster thing but, I am not. I am pretending to lick the head restraint.
Fail!
And that I had to explain it in such detail?
Epic fail!!

To wash our hands!
We needed to wash our tongues too. Just in case😉
Sure it was only 11:00 but we were on Disney time!

One was a margarita (I was gaining tequila confidence) and one was a daiquri. We shared. It kept X from complaining he was hot for about 5 minutes.

DAY TWO/ MAY 12 cont

We checked wait times and decided to head to Star Tours. Ran into this which did a good job setting the mood.

X pointed out how the trees etc are only one sided, like a movie prop. Ok, nobody make fun of me! I never noticed that but I found it so clever. Maybe we always go FP? Maybe I always am herding? Maybe I needed a margarita for clarity?

Make no mistake. These drinks were STRONG! I was starting to feel the effects, as was X and we were giggling like two little school girls.
In fact...remember how I told you in the last post how I take pictures to remember? Well...I think I was trying to remember that I like this man’s shirt.

DAY TWO/MAY 12 cont

We had a dilema here. Our next FP was for Toy Story but it was down and had become a multi experience FP. Reading the fine print, multi experience FP’s are not good on SDD or A.S.S. We already did RnR and Star Tours. We had a FP for ToT so what to do. (Gosh, the lack of attractions at Hollywood is very sad).

What to do indeed...

Maybe I was a little sappy from the alcohol but this really struck me.

I know people love to hate on ECV’s but what I saw was two people who won’t let their physical or age limitations get in the way of their love of Disney, or each other. In sickness and in health....

I should come clean, I have no idea who actually occupied those ECV’s. But I had a nice picture in my mind. I think it is why I like the Golden Girls. The hope of staying young at heart and having fun even as we age. Or maybe I was a little drunk🤭

(I was watching Dodger highlights this morning and Chris Taylor hit a homerun right near the Golden Road brewery sign. Which of course, made me think of Disney.)

Goofy! X always loved Goofy. He would not go get in line to meet him, however.

Like I said, our TSMM FP had become multi experience. You and I know there are exclusions to this. It’s not our first time. But the average Joe probably doesn’t. It says MULTIEXPERIENCE right there.

So I might have been a little buzzed (get it? Toy Story? Buzzed? Btw- I am perfectly sober presently) but the plan was to act like average Joe and to go to the cute CM at the FP tapstyle at SDD with X in the lead. I told him to smile at her and be charming. Play a little dumb. Act confident.

We had a plan, we knew our roles and we strode confidently towards FP entrance of SDD.
*whistle* substitution
At the last possible second cute CM girl was replaced by doofy CM boy.
We were denied, obviously.
There was a “suit” there. They are not in suits because it is Florida and too hot but he was in plain clothes/dress shirt and had a tablet. I said to him, dropping my average Joe character, that the term Multiexperience is very misleading. Furthermore, I continued, it should be called SELECT experience because it is only good on select attractions. The entire time he was typing on his tablet. At first I thought “how rude!” but I realized he was writing down my idea.

Forced to punt we decided to try our act over at Alien Swirling Saucers. Uggh! Cute CM girl and tablet man were manning the FP tapstyle.

Half time!
Restroom break.
Walking out of the restroom there was a huge man holding this tiny tiny baby. Tiny!
I stopped to oooh and aaaah. I asked the baby’s name and he said “Kobe”.
I said, “oh my...nevermind. “
“No”, he said, “you can say it.”
“My dog’s name is Kobe. Go Lakers? Congratulations and have a nice day.”
X was mortified and pulling on me.
“Mom! Why do you have to talk to people?!?”

Then we noticed TSMM was open! But only for FP holders. Thats us!

Number 9. I told X, as I have mentioned to all of you, that #9 always makes me think of him because it is his jersey number. And there are a lot of #9’s in this queue. Here is a sampling.

Loving the Buzz'd antics of Darstarr and X!
Speaking of Buzz. Just returned from Toy Story 4. I laughed. I cried! I need to watch it with the remote so I can pause it and look at all the neat stuff!

So what were your scores on TSMM that day? 😉

I’m sorry. That was rude. But so easy.
