Trip Report THE ONE FOR MOTHER’S DAY IN MAY (duh)🥑COMPLETE🥑

Welcome home!
Said no one in my house upon my return.

Who went? Well.....if you have read any of my previous trip reports (Christmas, February, March and April) you know I multitask when in Florida. This trip was no different. My oldest son, X, was finishing up his second year of college in SoFlo and I went down to help him pack up and move out.
The original plan (why is there always a plan A, B.. etc?) was to pack him up, drive his truck to WDW and put it on a transport. Then we would spend a few days in WDW and fly home. I even bought the plane tickets. But, do you know how much it cost to transport his car from Florida to Long Island? Just north of OMG!!!! Plan B: no transport, no flight home. We would be driving. We also had to trim 1.5 days from our Disney stay to allow for travel time. (Heavy sigh)

We stayed at Saratoga Springs in a studio,
May 10-13. I bought him a two day park hopper as he does not have an AP like the rest of the family.

Ok, we have the who, what, where, when and why. Lets get to it!

DAY ONE/MAY 10
I woke up at 4:00 am and left the house at 4:43. Ant drove me to the airport and we got there at 4:57 (he was driving slow this morning). My flight was at 6:10 going into Fort Lauderdale. My son’s school is equidistant between FLL and West Palm (PBI) and they both have the early morning flight. One is 6:00am and one is 6:10am so I usually book the cheapest. However, if I am renting a car I prefer FLL. PBI has their car rental offsite and it can be a hassel.

The morning before, at 6:10am I had checked in and gotten A37😮. What? I havent seen the A’s since SW started charging for better boarding assignments. Maybe the flight is empty?

The flight was not empty! The announcement came that there would be about 10 empty seats. I sat in an aisle in row 4. ROW 4!!!!
There was a gentleman at the window and our middle seat remained empty. Go figure. I have decided that I do not love sitting up that close. I am not sure why but it felt different, bumpier or something. Perhaps I was thrown off because I had a shortened horizon to look at? Or maybe I am just used to the back? Who knows.

It was an uneventful flight and we landed 20 minutes early. My son had a 10:00am final (seriously, who gives finals on the very last day of class?) and couldn’t be there when I landed. I could wait but it would take him 30 minutes each way which would have us close to noon. We still had a few trips to make to the storage unit and I wanted to be on the road to Disney by 1:00. We decided I would Uber.

Walking to the ride share area I passed the shuttle for the tri-rail. The tri-rail is a train that originates in Miami. I am not sure how far north it goes, I think it goes to West Palm. Thus the tri, as in three airports (I think). Anyhow, there is a station not 5 minutes from my son’s school. I made a mental note to look into that for next time.

I found Marco, my Uber driver and said, “hello, how are you today?” He said, “NO English”. Great. We hit some traffic and my 30 minute $36 drive became a 45 minute just shy of $50 (with tip) drive. On the plus side, I had time to research the tri-rail. If I read correctly there is a Free shuttle from FLL to the station and my trip to Boca Raton would cost $5! and take 30 minutes. Sorry Marco. No more Uber from FLL for me!

I had Marco drop me at a Dunkin Donuts near my sons school. (Yes, @VincciL , the one on Yamato). I got a tea and an egg sandwich and sat at a table outside.

I do love palm trees.

I was sitting there, eating, checking TR’s to see what @Back!Elbow!Shoulders! @NunuBelle and @NothatDonald were up to in their livish reports. I also knew @Tuvalu had left the day before and wanted to see if she made it home safely. A man pulls into a parking spot just in front of me. Then another man drives up and words are exchanged. Man1 cut off man2 or something. Man1 invites man2 to say it to his face. Man2 parks. Man1 gets out of his car and he is a huge bald guy (why are the always bald?) Man2 gets out of his car and he is smaller than man1 but not small. They are yelling, cursing etc. Man1 gets in man2’s face. Man2 pushes man1 away. Uh oh. Do I call 911? This is not going to end well. Man1 just keeps going back in man2’s face. Man 2 is, esentially cornered and keeps pushing man1 away. What do I do? Millers Ale house had just opened and I was hoping someone in there, having dealt with belligerent drunks, would know what to do. A scrawny, barely post pubescent guy comes out of Millers. Really? But another guy and his wife happen to be walking by and the guy (we can call him guy3) is bigger than man1 and man2 put together. Now man1 is throwing out racial slurs (man2 is hispanic man1 has to be a FLID) guy3 puts himself between the men. Man2 says he just wanted a cup of coffee. Guy3 says “I will buy you that cup of coffee” and walks him into DD with his arm still around him. Man1 turns to run his errand, notices me for the first time and says “sorry, that was bad” then went into Jersey Mikes to get his sandwich.

All before 11:00am.

My wife and I also love a good t-shirt. We wore these to WDW several years ago. Best reaction was from a CM when we were coming off of Test Track. He got a good laugh but he had to explain them to his co-worker. Who, by the way, was one of them millenials.
Love the shirts! And your witty comment too!!! More of both please😊
OMG @NessNewt !!! Z would flip for these shirts!
Z loves a good pun. But who doesn't
I wish I had something punny to say here but I cant think of a thing😁

I was sure you were describing my son with this story!! Since in HS, now rising sophomore college, does not want to ask anyone for anything. In HS would take an F for a grade before he would go talk to a teacher to figure out what he was doing wrong.
And we make it a policy to not talk to his teachers for him. It is soooo frustrating. One thing I do not understand is this weird thing these kids have with not understanding the value of connections and people willing to help you get a start.
He assures me he now talks to all of his college professors, and is networking, etc. He is studying interactive game design.
All I know (and he has been told), is that he is not welcome to live in my basement (or attic)! I told him if it looks like he is going to boomerang back that I am going to sell the house we live in now and buy a tiny little house that has only one bed and 2 chairs!
All I have to do is get rid of the fridge. Poof, son gone!!!

DAY 3/ MAY 12 (aka Mother’s Day)

I was up at 6:00. Looked at X, who was snoring, and I didn't have the heart to wake him. I knew this meant we would not be riding SDD but ok. I fell back asleep and woke at 8:00!!!! Yikes!!! I got up and showered and got dressed and heated up some oatmeal all as LOUDLY as I could so X would wake up.

It was a glorious morning.

We made it to the bus stop finally

And did not wait too long for a bus.

Hollywood at last!!!

I love the decor of Hollywood Studios. I love the old time Hollywood feel of it. I believe the park needs more attractions (maybe SW:GE will solve that) so I cant say it is my favorite, but I think the ambiance is my favorite. Does that make sense???

I also love the plethora of palm trees🌴

DAY 3/ MAY 12 cont

We arrived at the turnstyles. They were handing out carnations to the moms for Mother’s Day (duh) but the guy skipped me. Maybe I looked like X’s sister😂
Sorry, back to reality...

SDD wait was too long so we meandered toward our first FP, Rockin rollercoaster. However, we were Early with a capital E. So I suggested we check out Lightening McQueens racing academy.

We started making our way towards the theater and two CM’s beckoned us on. They were holding the doors/show for us. So nice!
It was early and the theatre was not too crowded. It is nice and airy with bench type seating and appears to be able to hold plenty of guests. The show was cute but not life changing. My boys would have loved it when they were younger.

As we exited they were starting a dance party. FUN!!! But it was early and not very crowded so it was a little flat.

But we got to meet Cruise Ramirez, so that was great!

This area is pretty new and I have some opinions. First of all I think it is great for parents with young kids. There is one way in and one way out with a large open courtyard for kids to run around. Plus the dance parties to keep them occupied. And there are life size cars to meet and get photos with. While the adults are on RnR one parent can bring the little ones here to run around and watch a show. My only complaint:

This was the only shade in the entire courtyard. They need a few benches with trees by the entrance/exit.

HS is my least favorite park and I've tried to avoid it the last couple of trips. That's why R was surprised when I chose to do the After Hours event at HS instead of MK. But doing that event reminded me why I enjoyed the park during our first trip in 2012. It was totally the atmosphere. It just took going to an empty park to remind me of that. That being said, I probably won't go back because my anxiety and claustrophobia goes into overdrive at HS during the day with all the crowds.

It all makes sense now! HS has little shaded places so that when people leave the park, they can all be tan like they actually live in California! It's all part of being immersed in the theme :p
Oh my gosh! That is hysterical!!! 🌞🏄🏻‍♀️🌴🕶

Come visit me! I have the whole series on DVD!
Dont say it if you dont mean it!

I missed seeing this during my May trip although it sounds like it's more suited for young kids. Disney definitely needs to add more shade structures to DHS!
Yes shade. Who would think people in Florida would seek out shade?
Some lady was lurking near us waiting for us to vacate our strip of palm tree shade.

I love the colors and the architecture and the music! The music!!! I listen to it at work all the time! I love the old Hollywood vibe! I also like some of the rides, which I guess is a good thing😎

We spent a little bit of time just sitting near Tower of Terror and listening to the music from the 20s-40s. I was so incredibly happy just sitting there, in an empty park, listening to my favorite music, eating the free popcorn, looking at all the little details I had never had a chance to see before. The $125 per ticket was totally worth it to me in that moment. It's not often you get total relaxation while inside a Disney park but it happened for me that night.

It never ceases to amaze me that in a HOT climate with concrete to walk on in the parks, there is so little effort put into shady areas, for people to go to. Many people come from colder climates (such as me), and can get light-headed under the Florida sun, if exposed for too long. C'mon Disney, this is a health concern. It's one thing for them to take away so many benches in recent years, but it's more of a concern with the lack of SHADE.
