The Livings Staues at EPCOT...Gone

Wow, I am surprised about this. Ive had my picture taken many times with them, but now I just enjoy watching others get their pictures taken. The best was when I went with a group who had never seen them before, they had no idea what was going to happen. So many memories come from those guys, it would be sad to see them go.

Oh no!! I really loved how much fun they provided, I'll never forget the last time I went to WDW and saw the look on my mother's face when I was taking her picture and the statue moved causing us both to laugh histerically! I think it's the personal interaction between the park's guests and the wonderful performers that really brings out the true magic of Disney....I really hope this is only a rumor!

It is a shame to hear this report. For years I had walked past them and not even stopped long enough to notice how much fun they brought to guest. On our last trip I was encouraged by my wife to stop and take a look and greatly enjoyed the show. I was so hoping to share it with the rest of our family at our next visit.
Would there be anyway that other Disney CM's could continue to perform the act?

I always thought it rather strange that Imaginum was moved from France to Italy. I always liked Character Masquerade in Italy and saw no good reason for the move. Character Masquerade is a better show, if you take the time to watch it.

I liked the old masquerade show, but as someone that visits Epcot often, I welcome change in the street entertainment (but not really removal without replacement).

Street shows are pretty easy to switch out......most are contracted workers, none have complex sets.....I would think Epcot would change this entertainment more often, so that their is always something new.

Is there some reason why they have chosen to use contracted workers in the past?

No idea......except that they don't have to train the people, provide insurance, or any of that other fun stuff.

If they were WDW employees, they would probably fall under the Actors Equity Association which could make them cost-prohibitive

I am 100% in agreement.

If anyone is interested the people that do the Living Statues have a website at http://www.unityproductions.com
My fiance auditioned for them a couple of years ago and has kept in constant contact with them ever since, maybe I could have her email them to either confirm or deny the info.-Joey

Thanks for the information. Look forward to hearing what you find out.

Actually... that is not being reported BY AllEars, but was written as AllEars Hears (which anyone can send them an email). It may be true, but I would wait for more sources than an email sent to them and reprinted.
If it turns out to be true (and not a rumour) then it is sad news. They were fun to watch

See, that's why I don't care for a 5th gate at WDW. Disney should start foccusing on keeping up with what they already have. They figure new attractions, even lazy ones like Aladdin's Carpets, are gonna be drawing new crowds, but to me, WDW has always been about the atmosphere. And lately that atmosphere has been taking all the major punches. Something like this detracts from the overall experience of World Showcase, and along with the bad maintenance and cleaningness (sp??) problems we've been seeing over the past few years... Hopefully management will wake up in time.

As long as they are replaced with something worthwhile, I always welcome change.

The Living Statues have been there from at least 1996. I enjoyed them but rarely ever stopped to watch them anymore, so something new and fresh is needed.

Just because their contracts are not renewed is not always Disney's fault. This is a 2 way street, so unless we know the details, we don't know what exactly transpired.

:D :D :D

P.S. - It's about high time they replace that horrid music act in Canada. What are they called again, Off Tune? :drevil: :drevil: :drevil:

This is what I got from my Fiance so far. Her info is based on stuff that Serge has said in the past.

I'm at work so I'm talking to her on AIM, I'm just going to paste the convo.

-------------
[17:54] Sara: cause rememeber he said he sold that show to them
[17:54] Joey: ahhhh
[17:55] Sara: i think he just trains his new people in the park, but diseny now hires people to do that there..
[17:55] Sara: and i think he made a deal with them where he can train his peeps thee .. then he flies out his performers to gigs all over the world
[17:55] Sara: im not positive though
[17:56] Sara: i know he does do a lot of corperate events and parties
-------------

I know it's not an answer but it's something.
I asked her to ask Serge about it next time they talk.
