Anaheim Ducks Day returned to Disney California Adventure park in January for its second year. A hit with Disney and Ducks fans alike, the one-day takeover of the park included photo opportunities, meet and greets with players, hockey-themed games and activities and special merchandise and food offerings.

More than 130 kids from local organizations GOALS, Cops 4 Kids and Pure Game, many of the hockey players or fans, joined the fun. The groups met and snapped a photo with Ducks players before enjoying the festivities and spending the rest of their day in the park.

Linden, a 7-year-old boy from Canada, wished to open the gates of Disneyland park, with the help of the one and only Mickey Mouse. Cassandra, a 9-year old girl from California, wished to see Mickey’s Soundsational Parade and meet some of the performers, because she is a dancer, too. She even gave them a few dancing lessons!

Linden and Cassandra’s wishes are just two of the nearly 700 wishes that the Disneyland Resort grants each year to children who are facing life-threatening medical conditions. Whether a child wishes to be a captain aboard the Mark Twain Riverboat, a pilot on the Millennium Falcon or meet one of their favorite characters, it truly takes a village to help make these wishes come to life and requires teamwork from departments all across the resort to make the magic happen.

The Disneyland Resort has been making wishes come true since Walt Disney opened Disneyland park and hosted children from around the world.

Did you know that Disney partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help grant the organization’s first official wish? Wish child Frank “Bopsy” Salazar asked for a trip to Disneyland park! Since then, The Walt Disney Company and Make-AWish have combined forces to make magic for many more wish kids and their families, with the 150,000th Disney wish to be granted sometime later this year.

Disneyland Resort guests can also take part in supporting these wish visits. If you’ve ever tossed spare coins into the fountains and waterways at some of our attractions such as “it’s a small world” and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, or even the wishing well at Snow White Grotto near Sleeping Beauty Castle, then you’ve taken part in supporting our wish kids. The change collected at these locations is donated towards wish-granting efforts.

The Disneyland Resort is thrilled to continue its partnership with Make-AWish in celebrating the organization’s 40th anniversary this year in the place where it all began, the Happiest Place on Earth.

Everyone Has a Role to Play in Addressing Our Community’s Needs: DISNEYLAND RESORT CAST MEMBERS ARE HELPING LEAD THIS EFFORT BY SUPPORTING CHRYSALIS IN MANY WAYS

Addressing the rise in homelessness needs and deserves an approach that combines a mix of housing and resources that assist an individual in navigating barriers very personal and unique to themselves. Perhaps it is not emphasized enough, but as individuals, business owners and employees—you are another important part of the solution.

At Chrysalis, we focus on providing the resources and support needed to prepare for, find and retain employment. We believe that a job is an important part of someone’s pathway to self-sufficiency and long-term stability.

During the last year, 220 Orange County clients found employment while participating in Chrysalis’ program. Those successes belong to each individual client, but behind the scenes there is a community that is also very important to these positive results. It is still near the beginning of 2020, and if you haven’t yet thought of a resolution, you might consider identifying a way that is meaningful to you and allows you to become involved more deeply in our community. This year, would you consider volunteering, donating or hiring through an organization such as Chrysalis?

Disneyland Resort was one of the first companies in Orange County to support Chrysalis and is an example of the multitude of ways that community members can make a difference. Within one week of Chrysalis Orange County opening our doors in 2018, Disney VoluntEARS hosted one of the largest clothing drives in the 35- year history of our organization. VoluntEARS donated, sorted and transported high-quality clothing that will help an estimated 1,000 people.

Every week, Disney cast members volunteer at Chrysalis, teaching classes and providing one-on-one support to clients in their job search. Disneyland Resort has invested in Chrysalis as a donor, and the company is working with Chrysalis as a hiring partner, identifying employment opportunities for Chrysalis clients— something that many business owners could consider.

Whether you are an individual, a business owner or Orange County’s largest employer, Disneyland Resort, we all have something to contribute to address the challenge of homelessness in our community.

Visit ChangeLives.org for more information on the Chrysalis program, volunteering at the Orange County center, or becoming a hiring partner. We can do this, together!

Throughout the school year, specialized Disney VoluntEARS visit high schools and nonprofits in Anaheim, sharing stories of their career journeys and spreading a little Disney magic wherever they go. These inspiring and engaging cast members are part of a speakers bureau, one of the key components of the Disneyland Resort workforce development program, which is heading into its third year. The program also includes workshops like business etiquette, resume writing and interview skills, but there’s much more to it.

In 2019, the Disneyland Resort donated more than $1.5 million to support workforce development for 22 local nonprofits, plus Anaheim schools in three areas: community support, mentorship and career skills development.

Through a workplace mentoring program in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County & the Inland Empire, 22 VoluntEAR cast members were paired with 22 “Littles” from Savanna High School for a three-year period. These students are now nearing their high school graduation with their Disney “Bigs” by their sides.

Mentorship is also seen in our partnership with Anaheim Union High School District’s AIME (Anaheim’s Innovative Mentoring Experience) program. For five weeks last summer, we hosted three student “mentees” from the program who were interested in pursuing careers in communications. They learned firsthand what a day-inthe-life working in that field looks like at the Disneyland Resort, and we’re looking forward to welcoming more students this summer.

Beyond our own workshops, we also work with organizations like Junior Achievement of Orange County to teach JA Career Success™ to students in five Anaheim Union High School District classrooms to develop career skills for local youth.

By partnering with organizations like Orange County United Way, Chrysalis, My Day Counts, Working Wardrobes, Girl Scouts of Orange County, Anaheim Family YMCA, Boys and Girls Club of Anaheim-Cypress, Goodwill of Orange County’s Tierney Center and more, we are able to reach countless residents across the city of Anaheim. We are excited to continue strengthening the workforce in Anaheim and see what the future holds for them, no matter where their journey takes them!

Just five years after Disneyland park opened its gates in 1955, Walt Disney joined the executive council for CHOC Children’s. That was just the beginning of a very important relationship.

Since then, the resort’s relationship with CHOC Children’s has continued to grow through character visits, executive board involvement and the annual CHOC Walk in the Park. Hosted by the Disneyland Resort, CHOC Walk is the hospital’s largest fundraiser of the year. This year will mark the 30th anniversary of the walk, which raised $2.7 million in 2019. Past donations from the resort included a $5 million contribution for CHOC’s newest tower, including the interactive “Turtle Talk” show in the lobby.

As part of a commitment to deliver comfort and inspiration to families with children facing serious illness, The Walt Disney Company made a donation to CHOC as part of the Disney Team of Heroes initiative. With that donation, CHOC received its first installation of interactive murals in its Autism Center this month. Coming soon are magic window installations and additional murals throughout the hospital. The program also will include customer experience training for doctors, nurses and staff, designed by the Disney Institute to enhance the patient and family experience.

The Disneyland Resort is excited to continue strengthening the relationship with CHOC Children’s and provide more moments that bring joy and inspiration to patients and their families.
