Trip Report The "HECK YEAH My Job Sent Us to WDW" + 2 Birthdays Trip Report

The cast of this trip is the same as our last trip:

Me (Lynn) and my husband (Brett)

Trent
: Our son was just about to turn 1 this trip. His birthday was just 2 days after we got home, so we celebrated him the entire trip. It was also Brett's birthday while we were down there, so we actually celebrated both of them!

Introduction and background

We stayed at the Contemporary Resort for 6 days/5 nights from June 11-16. The main reason for the trip was for a work conference I was attending at the Contemporary. The best part was that not only was my job paying for 4 of the nights, the mileage there and back, and a food per diem, but the room rate was so phenomenal, that we had to take advantage and stay an extra night. $179 per night and no tax…yes, please!

Oh and Brett and Trent tagged along. One would think that it was torture sitting in a conference all day while at the Happiest Place on Earth, especially since it was an accounting conference…us CPAs aren’t known for our party-hard skills…but it wasn’t bad since it was so unbearably hot during the day that we wouldn’t have wanted to even go to a park anyway.

I did not do any type of pre-trip report for this trip. Why? Because when I tediously put together a pre-trip report for our April trip and shared it all over the interwebs, it got completely rearranged the second we arrived on property. Oops.

Since this was our first time staying in a monorail resort, our main goal was to maximize the convenience factor…so the plan was to do either Epcot or Magic Kingdom each day, but we didn’t have any specific plans on which one we did on each day. We kinda winged it and it ended up working out so well.

We LOVED not having to get in the car, park (probably at the very end of a row because that seems to always happen), take a tram to get to the park, then do it all over again to leave the park. And no folding up the stroller either! We could just put Trent in and roll him right onto the monorail. It was glorious.

I am just FLOORED by those fireworks pictures, with them behind you. They could be in a magazine! Amazing! And the picture of the fountain in France, and the parade pictures, and, and and...ALL OF THEM I MEAN COME ON!!! Amazing!

That was a FANTASTIC parade spot! Great pictures!

Thank you! We will definitely be seeking that spot for all the parades that go in that direction!

YOU FOUND MY LUCKY FIREWORKS SPOT. I love that spot, and if you lay on the concrete walled area around the carousel (which on second thought might be gone now with the expansion), the view is lovely. It's also where during my high school graduation trip a cap from one of the fireworks landed on my foot. They're shaped like Mickey heads. I still have a scar :)

I love the pics at the contemp of Trent.

I loved that spot and am sad we probably won't get to watch Wishes! from there this trip because we'll only have one night at MK with Wishes! (the rest of the days are MNSSHP - one night of which we'll be there for the party). Something to look forward to next trip!

That's funny about the cap - you have you're own Disney "tattoo"!

Those firework pictures are amazing!

Thank you!

Thanks! I debated putting the elevator one up - but what's a trip report without at least one embarrassing photo, right?

Today was our last day, boo

It was also Brett’s birthday…yay!

We had an early morning (but not too early) breakfast ADR at Chef Mickey’s. How convenient it was to wake up, stroll over to the main building and walk right into the restaurant!

Trent got to celebrate his birthday again with a cupcake - for breakfast! He didn’t really eat much of it, just played with the chocolate piece and icing on top.

He also got to meet all of his favorite characters from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! You'll notice in several of the photos his "shy" stance of pulling his arm as far away from the characters as possible. Gosh, this was much different than our last trip an dI sure hope he gets over it soon!

I probably love breakfast more than the average person, but Chef Mickey’s is just ok for me. I prefer Crystal Palace when it comes to a character buffet breakfast, but we went more for the characters than anything…and the atmosphere is fun, too.

After breakfast, we strolled back to the room to gather all of our stuff. Once we were ready, we called the front desk to have a porter come bring our stuff to the car. I have officially been spoiled and will probably do that every time from now on.

We decided not to go to a park today and instead went to Downtown Disney. I thought it would be fun to do Characters in Flight for his birthday/Father’s Day, so we headed straight for that. We only had to wait a couple of minutes for the current ride to finish.

If you are afraid of heights, than this is not the experience for you! We could see for miles and miles!

It was the Car Masters Weekend, so it was pretty cool to see all the cars lined up from way up there.

Trent wasn’t all that thrilled to be up there – he was just kinda like “Meh”. I guess he didn’t understand and just saw that we were in a big cage. Since there were quite a few other people up there with us, we couldn’t really roam around too much without saying “excuse me, excuse me” but I definitely recommend trying it out if you’ve ever seen it up in the air from far away and wondered what it would be like to ride!

After our flight, we walked around looking at all the cars. There was such a wide range of cars, from antique to brand new, cartoon designs to movie replicas.

It was excruciatingly hot outside, like we were being slowly baked on that hot concrete, so once we walked by all the cars, we decided to go find lunch somewhere and then head home.

June Disney Trip Day 38.jpg

We ate at Uno's Chicago Grill since we wanted to escape the crowds around Downtown Disney. It was us and 1-2 other families in the entire restaurant. It's funny how different things can be just a few minutes outside of the World.

Here is a video of our trip! Be sure to click the gear button at the bottom and select 720p HD quality! I mistakenly uploaded to iMovie with a lesser quality setting so no 1080p this time. :(

And that, folks, is the end of our trip! Thank you for reading and your wonderful comments.

We are heading back to WDW this Sunday for 4 days (Sun-Wed). We'll be at MNSSHP on Tuesday night in our costumes and ready to enjoy some F&W goodies the other days. :hungry:

I hate when your reports end. It makes me sad. Have so, so much fun next week!!!

Thank you and I am glad you enjoyed reading. We are looking forward to next week, especially the Halloween Party. We went a few years ago and we had so much fun. I dressed as Alice and man, those characters really play along. I'm excited for Trent to experience it.

Another great TR & BEAUTIFUL photos!

Thank you! :D

I can't believe you TR is over so quick :( I'll be looking forward to following your next trip report and seeing Trent in his costume!:)

I can't wait to share photos of it! The funny thing is that we leave in less than 4 days and my costume isn't even ready yet but we've had his for a couple months! I guess that's how it goes now with a kid...

Thank you. I love how the tilt-shift photos make everything look like little toys. I'm hoping I don't take 3 months to post this next report...that seems to be my average!
