The Haunted Mansion Spider?

This is really funny if it's true... Because I remember that when you got to spiders, the sound of a man screaming played though the Doombuggy speakers really loud, and the man's voice was yelling hysterically things "oh on, stop!" but I never understood why anyone would be so scared of these cheesy looking neon spiders ...but now it finally makes some kind of sense.

The spider were always the low point of the Haunted Mansion, I remember reading an article a few years back when they did the revamp, and CM being interviewed said something to the effect of "yeah, we should of got rid of the spider a while ago they were really bad"

Well, I just spent like a whole day reading everything on doombuggies and they said something about a giant spider web that used to exist where the staircases are now. In the spider web, there was a man screaming with a spider not to far from him. I found this bit of information very interesting. If this is true, does anyone have any photos? Or has anyone seen the effect?

This sounds like the final scene in "The Fly".

Man that was a long time ago, I was like 9 and was there sometime in the first month of opening but yes I remember this I think it was a man’s face projected on the head of the fly about to be eaten by the spider.

While I know this a Bump from days gone by...*Apologies* There has been an interesting recent article about the Spider-Man from Theme Park University that is a good read...http://themeparkuniversity.com/disney/disneys-haunted-mansion-man-spiderweb-real-hoax/
Huh, that's funny. I totally forgot about this legend despite having created this thread 6 years ago. Nice find, though! The moaning man in the soundtrack is very interesting. 14 yr old me would've loved this!

The Man in the Web is a lost effect but in hindsight it would really be nothing more than a Halloween decoration in the eyes of today's parkgoers. Heck, it is a Halloween decoration! Not 100% exact but you can buy an off the shelf similar item for about 20USD. That said; if the Marc Davis concept is good enough to be mass produced and sold in stores it's probably good enough for the mansion. But is it enough? Would it be included today?

Unlike the Hatbox Ghost; this figure isn't nearly as interesting or as legendary. It was a scene-filler then and it would be a scene-filler today but that doesn't mean it can't or shouldn't still be added. I think it should. I'd happily welcome this addition to the mansion but only if the concept was expanded. And it should!

If added; I can only think of a few locations this scene would make sense. Right after the ballroom scene, along the wall in the crypt as we exit the ride or where I would install it, as the doombuggy leaves the attic and glides down the roof and out into the graveyard. I wonder if Imagineering would ever consider adding it?

For a bit of armchair imagineering I'd like to see this concept expanded to include shadowed projections of scurrying spiders, a Man in Web AA, feathery blasts of air and a Large silhouette of Mamma spider against the backdrop of a Full Moon. The effect would play out like this; A little bit of silly and little bit of spooky:

We exit the attic window and see a giant spider web stretched wide across the side of the house and a nearby rotting tree. Something's in the web! It's a squirmy Man trapped in web-dressing being tickle-tortured by crawling spiders. Is he laughing or is he in pain? As we ponder this odd sight we start to feel the sensation of spiders crawling on us! (We did just exit an attic!) As the doombuggy turns we see the impressive shadow of Mamma spider as she approaches our buggy. Is she being protective of her young or after a midnight snack? Yikes! The scene ends with the buggies rotating back around. Phew! We escaped the Spider's lair unscathed and uneaten.

Myth or not I'd like to see the Man in Web in our mansion!
