The Great Movie Ride

Do you think TGMR could be yelling for attention? I don't think Disney will shut it down, but, the last few times I went, attendance seemed really low. We all know that attractions with low volume get attention, sometimes in the wrong way. I don't know when the last overhaul was done, but, I was thinking, with today's technology, many of those scenes could be much more impressive, esp the Alien scene. I think, with some good love (and big bucks), that ride could be spiced and and pull in more crowds. Not necessarily change the movies but definitely update it.

There are already a few threads on this, and some in Imagineering, but...

I think I agree. Lots of the scenes and animatronics could/should be updated, to make you feel like you are in the movies. Right now it feels like you are in a diorama of movies. Perhaps replace a scene or two every once in a while just to keep it a bit fresh. And also the ending film...

I honestly like it. TLC would do some good, but I think the premise is good and perhaps starting with one scene would improve it. Scrapping it or changing every movie would be too much. Even updating the montage would be a start.

actually, I was wondering if they'd cut it as they do when rides are getting low volume. Then I thought they couldn't cut it. There's no way they could repurpose that building for something else but these numbers have to be pushing them to do something. When I rode this weekend, it appeared to be having problems. They had the second "vehicle" going through empty behind the vehicle they were actually loading. My theory was that the gangster scene must not be functioning properly or they didn't have enough CMs to do that role.

A lot also depends on the day/week/month. I go quite a bit being a FL AP holder and I've had days where the line was really long and fp+ were gone lol but I've also had days I walked right on. I like the ride but a refurb defiantly wouldn't hurt. I do agree, the big blue ugly hat does take away a lot from it. I remember as a kid walking in and down the street was the Chinese theatre and it was an awesome site. Maybe that's the best way to refurb the ride, take down that stupid hat lol

I like this ride but I do agree a nice little refurb would be nice when we go through the alien scene ( I've never seen the movie) but the female actress with the gun her face looks terrible

That would be Ripley aka Sigourney Weaver. I think that most people who are frightened have a terrible look on their face, especially if there's an Alien lurking. ;)
I think she's fine.

I don't think they can afford to lose that ride. I don't even think they can afford to put it out for refurb. The number of attractions at HS is pathetic. The Des Moines, Iowa theme park has more stuff to do then HS and costs 1/5 as much for a ticket. In fact, I'd be mad if I had a base ticket and they counted HS as 1 day, because we all know there is nothing in that park to keep you entertained for a whole day (unless you like shopping (with the same merchandise at 18 different stores) all day). If that park didn't have ToT, I wouldn't even bother to go back. The whole park needs some serious attention, and TGMR is just one thing on a long list of items that needs attention.

This is one of the last attractions Disney has done and left intact that's anywhere near the level of Pirates of the Caribbean. Seriously. What have they done since, I guess, Walt Disney World's Splash Mountain that hasn't downsized the quantity and functionality of Audio-Animatronics, has highly detailed show scenes like this one and is slow moving? It's a close cousin to EPCOT Center attractions Spaceship Earth, World of Motion and Horizons from that era. They don't do anything like this anymore, people. We lose it entirely and they'll likely replace it with some dumb thrill ride with screens, very few Animatronics and inadequate capacity.

GMA is under-rated. Every time someone posts a thread saying how it needs more new movies, I feel ill.

Part of the problem with today's Guest is that they just don't get it. The movies there are timeless and classic. That is what the attraction is about. If we wanted to see modern movies we can just turn on the TV. These are things that built Hollywood. Like CoP, it is a better, more cohesive attraction as is. There is no need to update because the very essence of the attraction is "OLD" Hollywood. You know, it's the Hollywood that never was and always will be!

At one time didn't the alien use to come out of the ceiling at the riders? I noticed the last time I was on GMR that it just has smoke and light effects but no movement.

I believe this attraction needs a serious refurbishment, but as pointed out there is so little to do at this park already. DHS in general needs some serious help. No new attractions of any note, no attractions or few attractions to encourage parents to bring young children to the park to help remove st least some congestion at MK and the big hat needs to go. Years ago I could at least spend two hours in the stores when they had some interesting and quality merchandise. Now, it's just the same overpriced, poor quality items I can get in any other park or DTD. I really used to like this park, a lot. Now it's more of a two half days, one afternoon, one evening and we're done.

I'm sure people visiting for the first time think it's as great as I did the first few times I saw it. Unfortunately, I just need expectations and enjoy what I can as it is now.
