Disney owns so much now they could honestly do a truly great Great Movie Ride. From Classics to Modern movies there is plenty to choose from.

My pitch was always a dark ride like stale movie wax figure exhibit that is proud to present a journey into the movies, at the same time as a piece that is said to inspire The Night at the Musuem films, the tablet that brought the figures to life does the same for all the hits within the attraction.

The Great Movie Ride
----- (Redo and Christmas themed ride)
----- (If Disney were able to do a new version of the ride (in Hollywood and/or DCA), then I could see a Holiday Overlay being possible. Decorations like Lights, Wreaths and Trees could be all throughout the city areas of the attractions)

Old
New
Footlight Parade
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Singin' in the Rain
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Mary Poppins
Mary Poppins
The Public Enemy
Dick Tracy
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
The Searchers
Honey I Shrunk the Kids
Alien
Predator
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Alien
Tarzan and His Mate
Flight of the Navigator
Casablanca
Star Wars
Fantasia
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Wizard of Oz
Hocus Pocus

I once did my own version of The Great Movie Ride in the Seasonal Overlay thread. The possibilities are really endless and can range from different topics and themes. Even nearby competition Universal would benefit from their own version of the classic attraction.

Good Luck Everyone

PREVIOUSLY ON THE GREAT MOVIE RIDE.......

Today's look back at some of the projects from Season 1 takes us to the first challenge of the competition. In SCENE 1, our studio teams were tasked with creating a mini land using any IP that was representative of their particular studio (Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm).

Right off the bat, our teams did not disappoint as we had 3 great projects submitted for the round. Before the movie Black Panther had even been released, Marvel Studios submitted a very detailed pitch for a land based on Wakanda (seen here) to be added to Disney's Hollywood Studios. With an uber detailed pitch of their own, Pixar Studios, presented a lovely idea for a land based on Pixar Shorts in Pixar Plaza (found here).

While it didn't end up winning that round, Lucasfilm's The Goblin Kingdom was universally praised as a very unique idea, and we present for your reading enjoyment below (note some of the jpeg files have not survived over time).

And with those simple words you have just ventured into The Goblin Kingdom

The Goblin Kingdom Revue

Queue

A series of rope bridges wind their way across the swamp. Several interactive areas include a series of rocks that kids can hop across, landing on each rock produces a rather (ahem) distinctive sound. The bridges cross directly into what appears to be a large hollowed out rock floating in the bog.

Inside the lobby, which actually feels like it's floating on the water through mechanical and sound effects, guests are greeted by The Worm, who has taken up residence in the rafters.

The Worm : "'Ello! Come to meet the missus? Oh, no probably not are you? You're 'ere for the show. Won't be long now. Didymus should have them ready soon."

A roar from inside the theater, suggesting a large creature, startles the worm, who disappears into the beams of the rafters, and quickly reappears elsewhere closer to the doors.

The Worm : "Oy, sounds like Ludo's not too 'appy. Why they brought 'im onto this floating rock I'll never understand, anyway, things should be ready, just head that way,"

He gestures to the doors which open to admit the guests, whom he encourages to keep going "That way". The theater itself is carved directly into the rock, one large proscenium arch, flanked by four smaller boxes on either side. The Curtains are a dark mossy green, suggesting they grew right where they hang.

At the start of the show we hear another loud roar, followed by the pleas of Sir Didymus. Ludo apparently wants to join in, but Didymus tries to tell him that it would make the rock sink. Didymus comes flying through the curtain and lands sprawled on the stage, he quickly springs up and greets the audience, before turning to lecture Ludo who appears in the stage right box. He tells Ludo to sit still and watch the show. Before the show begins however, they would like to offer some wisdom, and no one is better to offer it then the Wise Man. The curtain opens to reveal the doddering old Wise Man.

The Wise Man attempts to offer some wise words, but he struggles to remember it, or stay awake, or keeps getting interrupted by his sharp tongued hat, which he keeps telling to shut up, the hat won't have it, and a screen descends on them bickering. Next up are the Helping Hands, projected on the screen, performing a surreal but chipper little pun filled ditty about their job in "Lending a Hand"

Ludo seems to have enjoyed the song and is laughing and clapping along with the audience before being silenced by Didymus, who then introduces the four guards. The guards appear in two of the boxes, and attempt to perform "Who's Lying?" a variation of "Who's On First" except they keep getting confused and have to confer with each other. Didymus loses his patience and throws a switch, causing a trapdoor to drop out from under them.

Next up is the Fireyes, who perform an acrobatic juggling act with their hands, heads and and various other body parts. While looking for more parts to juggle, they turn to Didymus, who wildly starts to defend himself, knocking off their heads, and sending them running off to retrieve them.

Deciding it would be best to end things while everyone is still alive, Didymus introduces the Troll Squad, who perform a rousing rendition of "Magic Dance," so rousing in fact, that Ludo can't help up and join the dance, unfortunately his weight causes the floating theater to rock and bob in the water wildly, interrupting the song. Didymus and the trolls attempt to stop him, but his dancing only gets wilder until...

CRRUUNNCCHH!!

The stage breaks loose from the rest of the theater, rocking and rolling this way and that. Didymus calls for the curtain to close, and urges the audience to escape out the exit. As the audience leaves, they can still hear Ludo wild laughter as he dances and the rest of the cast attempting to stop him, but judging by the continued rocking of the stage, it's not working. Guests soon exit back into the bog within view of the Bog of Eternal Stench River Tours.

Ride Experience -

As guests disembark from the old boathouse, and into the bog they pass by an old rotting tree. Perched on the branch of the tree is a barn owl who occasionally whoos and moves its head. Floating along the bog guests will pass by various spurts of water which shoot out water followed by a rather refined sound known as farting. As the spurts shoot out the water occasionally the smell that gave the Bog of Eternal Stench its name. The boats will continue to float by, and pass under a bridge used in the queue for the nearby show harboured within the bog.

As the boats turn a bend behind the entrance of the show, guests enter the Cave of Peculiarities. Within Ludo sits on the cave floor howling. As he howls various rocks push out of the water, and various fountains shoot out as the rocks push out of the water. The rocks continuously go up and down. Another thing of note is that fact the rocks actually change color as they sink and rise. The boats soon reach the end of the cave in which piles of bones are lying around with a group of fairies flying around attempting to get the guests to stay for supper.

The boats leave the Cave of Peculiarities, and guests find themselves back at the docks. With that guests depart from there journey around the bog.

Streetmosphere of The Goblin Kingdom

Sarah-Labyrinth.jpg

Hoggle -
Hoggle roams throughout the Goblin Kingdom, and will range in height from 4'5 to to 4'8. He will not be your traditional fur character as he will be able to blink, and talk in real time to guests without any prerecorded phrases similar to what has been done with PUSH. A voice manipulator will be implemented so anyone could play him. He will go around the land warning people of the dangers of this land, and occasionally he will stop and talk to guests about possibly being his friend.

Ludo -
Ludo roams throughout the Goblin Kingdom, and ranges in height from 6'0 to 6'5. Ludo will be a typical fur character. Ludo will go around, and occasionally stop to look at odd things for an extended time throughout the miniland.

Affald -
Affald roams throughout the Junk Fields, and is the son of the Junk Lady. He will work similar to Bobbajo from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in which the trash he is carrying is where the person controlling Affad hides, and is able to pull and press triggers to manipulate his face, and when the character speaks as well. Affald will travel, and as he does he offers to trade with guests various knickknacks he has collected. In return guests will trade their own knickknacks such as pins, buttons, droid pieces, etc.

Wiseman -
Wiseman roams throughout the Goblin City, and is unique as it requires two different people. One person gets into the Wiseman, and provides is movement and voice. The second person hides, and operates the speaking hat upon the Wiseman. The Wiseman will go about spouting theme park advice, but the hat will constantly interrupt causing a rather humorous exchange between the two whenever that happens. Guests may also choose to talk to them in which the other will try to get the guest's attention allowing for an endless about of humor.

The Sleeping Goblin
A Quick-Service Restaurant

Near the first door of Goblin City is a small quick service offering called The Sleeping Goblin, named after the guardian of the city himself. Inside the Quick-Service restaurant will serve the famous Goblin Noodle Soup ($7.99), which comes in a hearty bowl including mushrooms, kale, beans, and vegetables.

The Humongous Burger ($9.99) is named after the guardian of the second door to Goblin City, and is a double cheeseburger with the works; onions, peppers, mustard, ketchup, relish, tomato, and lettuce.

For dessert, the Labyrinth ($20.00) is a large bowl of seven different ice cream flavors; vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, coffee, lime, cookie dough, and lemon, with the guest choice of 30 different toppings. It serves 4 guests per order.

Sarah's Room

Guest can find Sarah's bedroom a small gift shop inspired by the location in the film in the junk fields. Guests will find plush version of creatures from the film, strange hats and wigs and electronic puppets of creatures from Labyrinth.

The inside of the shop is decorated just like the set from the movie and looks perfectly normal but outside the shop looks like a giant pile of junk. Outside the door is the Junk Lady whom guests can interact with but in reality she is only an interactive audio animatronic.

PREVIOUSLY ON THE GREAT MOVIE RIDE.......

Today's look back at some of the highlight projects from Season 1 takes us to Scene 2, where our Studios were tasked with creating a new dining experience at Walt Disney World. The caveat being that it incorporated an existing attraction from the Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios into the restaurant itself.

First up on our retrospective from that round, Henson's Revue, courtesy of Marvel Studios.

The Muppet Show (1976-1981) was an iconic show that served as the primary inspiration behind Muppet*Vision 3D in Disney's Hollywood Studios. Being the last project (or one of the last projects) that Jim Henson himself worked on, the show is a classic example of the Muppet style of humor and shenanigans.

With Star Wars Land additions in Disney's Hollywood Studios and what we know from insiders and information at hand in 2017, the inclusion of Star Wars Land will re-route, and enclose Muppets Courtyard. In addition, the opening of Pizzerizzo (replacing Pizza Planet) and Gonzo's Royal Flush restrooms, it offers us an opportunity to completely re-vitalize the Muppets mini-land with new entertainment and a cohesive theme.

image-jpeg.151051
Current Plans for the Streets of America and Muppets Courtyard refurbishments in conjunction with the Star Wars Land addition
(drawn by wdwmagic member marni1971)

Using the plans as a realistic backdrop to the project, we wanted an extension of Muppet*Vision 3D that would 'plus' the feeling of being on The Muppet Show. How to bring the characters to life in a way that was more than just a 3D show. An interactive dining experience, connected to the exit of Muppet*Vision, will extend the fun entertainment from the 3D screen into reality, as you can now dine at....

Henson's Revue

HENSON_S_REVUE_LOGO.png

Replacing Mama Melrose's Restaurante Italiano will be Henson's Revue, named after the creator of the Muppets (Jim Henson) and also named to depict the eclectic entertainment offerings within the dining experience! With music, games, and some surprises, this will definitely be a dining option for the whole family.

Theme
The theme of Henson's Revue is associated and inspired by the 1970s 'The Muppet Show'. During your dining experience, the Muppets will be performing a series of skits and musical numbers, many of which guests will be able to come down to the dance floor and interacting with.

The music is a vital to the theme theme of not only Henson's Revue, but also the surrounding area music, as the Courtyard will have an 'Awesome Mixtape' of 70s hits playing outside. As you sit on one of the new benches in the shade, marveling at the rainbow connection pavements embedded in the ground below your feet, you'll be able to sit back and relax to music from Elton John, Billy Joel, and many more who were all featured on The Muppet Show.

Imagineering Team Note:
2364611904414549006%253Faccount_id%253D9
As an additional theme consideration, the imagineering team of Marvel Studios traveled to Muppet Courtyard for some hands-on research for our new expansion. In our findings, the 70s theme made even more sense given not only the ties to the Muppets, but also the park as a whole.

Now, Disney's Hollywood Studios has the 50s Prime Time Cafe (50s), the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater (60s) and Henson's Revue (70s).

Each decade from the 50s-70s is now represented with its own restaurant; a unique finding in a currently progressing park!

Muppets Courtyard 'New' Area Music

'Awesome Mixtape'
Feel free to have a listen with the rest of the project!

Kool and the Gang - Jungle Boogie
Alice Cooper - School's Out For Summer
Elton John - Bennie and the Jets
Billy Joel - New York State of Mind
Elton John - Crocodile Rock
Bee Gees - Stayin' Alive
Ozzy Osbourne - Born To Be Wild
Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
Al Stewart - Year Of The Cat
The Doobie Brothers - Long Train Running
Harry Chapin - Cats in the Cradle
Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah - Lake Shore Drive

Connection to Muppet*Vision
4540009493412968264%253Faccount_id%253D9
There will be two ways to access Henson's Revue. Coming out of the original exit of Muppet*Vision on the back side of the map above, there will now be an expansion of the former Mama Melrose building to the theater. Guests will now exit the theater into a play area setting and gift shop (more details on those to come) before arriving at the check in desk for Henson's Revue. Guests can also enter via Muppets Courtyard proper.

Henson's Revue Interior Layout
7583689197960188797%253Faccount_id%253D9
In a more detailed image of the description above, guests have two ways to enter into the restaurant, and both ways eventually bring them into a 2-floor atrium arrangement, with seating on both levels.

The interior of Mama Melrose was completely gutted and slightly expanded in order to accommodate for these changes.

On an angle parallel to most of the tables is the main stage. It is here where Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem will crank out some classic tunes, or Animal will rock out to 'Born to be Wild', or basically anything could happen!

In front of the stage and backstage areas for props and cast members is the main dance floor for guests, and tiered seating on the first floor brings you through the long and circular tables that can seat anywhere from a family of 2-16 guests.

On the second level is balcony seating which runs around the perimeter of the restaurant and offers a birds-eye view of the chaos the Muppets have cooked up.

In addition to being physically connected to Muppet*Vision, there will also be a story connection to the 3D show as well. On a screen behind the stage, Kermit will be seen traveling back and forth with Fozzie, attempting to host both the show and the dinner entertainment as clearly his comrades can't do either properly. References to what is going on in the show will also be heard at these times.

For instance, when Kermit introduces Miss Piggy in the show, he will then seemingly run over to Henson's Revue to check on the progress, and then when Miss Piggy's number is interrupted, he will get word and have to race back periodically.

The Menus
henson_s_revue_menu_cover.jpg

Similar to 1970s style restaurants, there will be a buffet salad bar (a unique feature atypical at many WDW restaurants, located to the left hand side of the restaurant, underneath the overhang. Next to it will also be a dessert sundae bar, described later on.

'The Show'
Show times will be held at 5pm, 6:30pm, 8pm, and 9pm and last for 35 minutes each.

During the show, kids and their families will be allowed to come down to the dance floor to sing and dance along with the Muppets. The show will be a hybrid of the Country Bear Jamboree combined with elements of Hoop Dee Doo and the German Biergarten.

Each show will be different than the last, and throughout the 35 min event, a variety of things can happen including:

- Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem will come out on stage to play some of the 1970s playlist established in the area music, as well as some Muppet Show classics such as 'Cheesecake'

- Kermit checking on the restaurant running in from Muppet*Vision

- Statler and Waldorf in the top corner of the restaurant making snide remarks about the food.

Statler: So how's your food?
Waldorf: Undercooked
Statler: You should ask them to cook it more
Waldorf: I don't want that
Statler: Why?
Waldorf: Because then we have to stay here longer
Together: Ho-ho-ho

- Gonzo and Camilla the Chicken attempt to sing 'I'm Going to Go Back There Someday' from the Muppet Movie but get interrupted by a power outage via an experiment in Muppet*Vision

- Each show ends with the cast of the Muppets singing one of the smash hit songs such as Bohemian Rhapsody to finish out the dinner show.

For example:
5pm show ends with Stayin' Alive
6:30pm show ends with Jungle Boogie
8pm show ends with Born to Be Wild
9pm show ends with Bohemian Rhapsody

- Each dinner show will have different events and songs throughout, so no show will be the same for the guests.

Muppet Mobile Order
While Dinner is the main event, some guests just enjoy having a sundae or a quick service serving of menu items at Henson's Revue. A small quick service window will be available at the entrance and guests can take advantage of Disney's Mobile Order System.

Simply log on to your MyDisneyExperience App, order your food, and then as a special enhancement, you will be sent a video of the Swedish Chef preparing your meal, similar to the turtle soup sketch.

--Muppet Play Area Description--
Connected to the restaurant as described before, is a play area dedicated to the Muppets. While waiting for your table inside Henson's Revue, or after seeing Muppet*Vision, or just as a break from the heat, come inside this air-conditioned play area with plenty of seats and activities to enjoy.

- Scooter's Backstage playset features an indoor jungle gym similar to Dumbo's queue and the exit to Mission:Space for small kids to play on.
- In the back corner is a 70s Arcade for kids and kids at heart to play with, featuring old games such as Pacman with a Muppet twist.
- Occasionally throughout the day, the Muppet Mobile Lab might perform a show indoors for all to see.

Gonzo's Carousel of Chickens
B-Ticket

While Henson's Revue provides a much needed table service option and further expands the Muppets Mini-Land by removing a theme that didn't fit in the area, with Star Wars Land there needs to be more capacity in the surrounding area or else the park will simply be long waits everywhere.

In an attempt to quell this and also add a bit more depth to the Muppets Mini-Land and connections to the 1970s Muppet Shows, Gonzo's Carousel of Chickens will be a small B-Ticket carousel in the center of the courtyard similar to the carousel in many Magic Kingdoms. The goal of this is to hopefully offer a venue for slightly more capacity and things to do while either waiting for your Henson's Revue or looking for a quaint location to relax and unwind.

Conclusion
Overall, Henson's Revue and the connectivity with the newly improved Muppet Courtyard and extension of Muppet*Vision, will be a well-received addition to Disney's Hollywood Studios, offering the park some needed capacity and an extra dose of The Muppets!

On behalf of the cast of Marvel Studios, thank you for reading our presentation!

As an additional theme consideration, the imagineering team of Marvel Studios traveled to Muppet Courtyard for some hands-on research for our new expansion. In our findings, the 70s theme made even more sense given not only the ties to the Muppets, but also the park as a whole.
Crazy to date this project to the point where one of our members (I’m pretty sure it was @spacemt354) was in DHS when working on this and Galaxy’s Edge is nowhere close to being done lol

Very excited for this to be back!!
