Trip Report The GRAND Birthday! *COMPLETED*

“Hey, Ma ~ you’re about to celebrate a BIG birthday. What are you going to do next?”
“I’m going to Disney World!”

If it were only as simple as it sounds in the commercial. But we all know that real life rarely aligns with what is portrayed on TV....or for that matter (dare I say?) social media. My mother was hitting a milestone on 2/1/2019 and I wanted to take her to her favorite vacation destination to celebrate. (The fact that it also happens to be mine was a bonus!) However when I presented the idea to her back in the fall, she was reluctant to accept my offer.

Ten years ago our extended family went to WDW to celebrate her last big birthday. During that trip, paramedics were called because my infant nephew was experiencing breathing difficulties; my sister-in-law got either food poisoning or a bad case of stomach flu which necessitated a doctor coming to her resort room (and an extended stay); and my dear Woody came down with similar symptoms which resulted in an ambulance ride to the ER on the night we arrived home.

Needless to say that was the end of our extended family vacations.

I had to clarify with Mom that I wasn’t planning a big gathering. Still, she wasn’t sure she wanted to go. My father was recovering from some recent health challenges and she was uncertain she’d feel comfortable leaving him. She asked for some time to think it over.

Meanwhile I jumped on some cheap airfare and booked the hotel, figuring it was worth the risk. Just before Thanksgiving, with my dad’s blessing, Mom decided she would like to go.

“Where will we stay?” she asked.
“It’s a big event. Where do you think we should stay?” I answered.
Mom paused and without waiting for her reply I continued: “It’s going to be a grand celebration, so we must stay at the Grand Floridian!”
Mom choked up and said, “I never thought I’d ever be able to stay there.”

Well now she has! And we had a wonderful time at the resort and in the parks. There was even a surprise or two.

As for this:
That's the interesting thing -- something new, fun, or outright bizarre happens on all your trips, and that's what keeps us coming back for more. It's kinda like a written version (with photos), of a Tuvalu WDW reality show. :p Looking forward to the next installment in the series.
Stay tuned for the bizarre!

I wish this trip could have been mother/daughter/granddaughter. Sadly, Em was unable to join us.

Who: Tuvalu and Mom
When: January 29 - February 2, 2019
Where: Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa (the “and Spa” gets me every time!)

I agree with everyone else. I have really enjoyed this trip report. I love all of your reports, but this one was particularly happy to read. I'm looking forward to the next one and hope it comes soon. Maybe a Spring Break trip with Em???

So glad that you and Mom had a wonderful time! After Dad and I spent our first day in MK and I made him walk 8+ miles, he was basically wheelchair bound for the rest of the week. He had a pinched nerve in his neck / shoulder and was in lots of pain any time he was on his feet. When the brother and his wife arrived the next day, I had to explain how I "broke" Dad. whooops.

He had lots of fun (and so did we), so it was a good trip after all. PLUS I only ran into the brother once with the wheelchair. He was NOT happy.

Thanks for taking us along! :geek:

And I bet you love yours as much as I do mine. 🧡

🥰

Thanks for reading, Meg!

I appreciate your faithful following! I think you’ll like my next resort choice. 😉

Hope your next visit to the world is fabulous, B!E!S!

I can think of no better way to start and end a night in the park! :inlove:
I guess POFQ my favourite 😁

I like the way your Mom thinks!

Thanks for sharing another great voyage @Tuvalu ! It really helps my WDW withdrawal.
Thank you for following along (again) @fractal. Hey, you know what would help with that withdrawal......😉

Oh I'm so sad this one is over... Your mom has more stamina than most younger people.... I'm so glad you all had a great time!
I’m kinda sad it’s over too!

Another fabulous @Tuvalu trip! Seriously impressed with your mom, she can keep up with the best of them!
She sure can! I’m hoping that “Energizer Bunny” gene was passed down to me. :joyfull:

Thank you so much for writing this one. Your Mom is absolutely adorable and JB was quite the trooper. Never had the opportunity to Disney with my Mom, but am building those memories with DD (I can only hope someday she'll be taking me to the GF). Your reports are some of my favorites. I laugh and learn with each one. This one coaxed me out of the shadows.
So glad you decided to come into the light! I persuaded @riverside to leave the shadows and now we all get to enjoy her fabulously fun trip reports! Perhaps one day you will delight us with a mother/daughter TR. In the meantime, keep making those memories with her. :inlove:

I love your mom! This was such a fun TR to read. It was so special that JB joined you. What a great birthday gift. Thanks for sharing with us!
I had fun writing about our adventures (and surprises). And I am loving your TR!

Thanks for sharing your wonderful trip! It seemed like fun was had by all. It was so nice that JB was able to join you and your mom. You have a great family!
Thank you for your kind words.

Another wonderful report. Can’t wait to share the magic with my parents.
Do you have a trip planned? < fingers crossed>

Yah, those "happy face" expressions, (while on the Tragical), look sincere . . . :hilarious:

This was a great TR, Tuvalu, and thank you!! Sometimes as I was reading, I was thinking, "like mother, like daughter. Now, we know where some of your joie de vivre, and energy comes from -- good genes!! :joyfull: By the way, your mom ROCKS!! :D

Glad to hear that JB also had a fun trip, too. :)
As always, I cherish your comments, dear @MinnieM123. :inlove:

Thank you for sharing your trip with us! I'm so glad your mom enjoyed her birthday trip!! I can only hope I will still have that much energy when I get to be her age!!
Really appreciate your reading another one of my reports!

This is my favorite Mother Daughter trip report yet! I loved that you were with your Mom rather than being the Mom (no offense to Trollyfollower) and got to tell your report as the daughter. :inlove:
Agree, it was fun to be the daughter this time! Perhaps sometime in the future we can take a 3 generation vacay and Em can write the TR from a granddaughter’s point of view.

Great trip report as usual!!!!!!😀
That means a lot, my original fan. 🥰

As always--a simply wonderful trip report!! Thanks for sharing!!:)
It was my pleasure!

Thank you for sharing! This might be one of my favorite trip reports from you!
You are making me blush.

What a fun TR. You're so lucky to be able to travel with your mom. I enjoyed being along for the ride! Can't wait for the next one!
Glad you enjoyed the ride....and you may want to keep your seatbelt buckled. 😉

Wonderful TR! Your mom is awesome. Loved that she wanted to smile on the Tragical! I was fortunate to be able to take a trip with my mom and my daughter a few years before my mom passed. I cherish those memories.
The memories can be better than the trip ~ they live forever in your heart. ❤️

I came to the TR party very late this time. I'm glad it had something to read today at work.

What a beautiful birthday trip for your mum! I'm so glad you both enjoyed yourselves, and that JB came too!!

Any chance of picking one of those cards up in September @Tuvalu? I feel like someone from Australia need to take one home :D
I feel a little guilty distracting you from work. 😜
And as much as I would love to send a Tuvalu card down under, I don’t have any plans to visit WDW in September. :arghh:

Thanks for sharing your wonderful trip report!! What a magical birthday adventure!
Thank you for reading @StitchSNK!
