I'm at WDW right now, and I just wanted to add a quick post to say thank you to Minnie and her friend at Chef Mickeys this morning, just in case somehow, someway it reaches her.
I'm here with my wife and two daughters (2.5 and 6 mos) for the kids' first trip. Today's only agenda item was Chef Mickey's. My 2.5 year old loves all things Mickey and Minnie and was talking about meeting them today for weeks. We tested waters with M&G leading up and, although she'd get shy or a little scared sometimes, she'd always been able to get through it quickly. She met Mickey yesterday and it was ok, not great, but she claimed it was her favorite part afterwards and loved talking about it.
Fast forward to this morning and, you guessed it, she was petrified as soon as she saw them all for the first time. I'm talking head buried in my shoulder, clinging so hard to me that I didn't need hands to hold her. We tried the usual and nothing was working. I had chalked it up to a loss after Goofy Pluto Donald and even Mickey came by and she never moved (the 6 month old, by the way was awesomely obsessed with them so we at least had that going).
So by the time Minnie came around, it was the same story, but we figured we'd give it a try. When Minnie saw my daughter hiding, she pretended to hide too. Her sticking with it got my daughter to at least look at her. Then, when I mentioned that my daughter wore Minnie's dress to MK the day before and had waved at her, Minnie ran with it - telling her that she remembered, showing off the dress and really helped my daughter feel special. I knew she was hooked at that point because she proceeded to point out to Minnie that she didn't have the same shoes though. My daughter was back to normal and loved every second of the interaction.
My words aren't doing it justice, but we have Minnie and her friend to thank, because as soon as she walked away my daughter had the biggest smile on her face and said to us "ok, Mickey can come over now".
So if you read this somehow, thanks Minnie and friend- you salvaged our lunch (and day), and we'll probably never stop talking about you.
Also a shout out to Pluto and friend who noticed the little girl who was afraid when he came around originally was now happy and open to seeing him, so he came over and gave her a sticker for being brave.
Little things.
