Tell me about the Yacht Club

First, let me say that I love my DW! We are planning a Disney get away after our DS returns to college in the fall. We need some R&R after a summer with him home, but I digress.

Anyway, we started out considering Port Orleans. Next, my DW suggested the Wilderness Lodge. Then she surprised me by booking the Yacht Club. She says she got a great rate and as most of our ADRs are in Epcot or Crescent Lake area why not also, as our mobility issues are so much better. I have always wanted to stay at the Yacht Club but DW always preferred the Magic Kingdom resort area.

I know they have a great pool, but what else do I need to know?

Others had chimed in. Great hotel and location if you are not on monorail (EC and HS are right there).

zurgandfriend - you will have a great time - my comments are:
- Order a dark and stormy when you get there!~ this drink is synonymous with yacht clubs and sailboat racing. People who race sailboats come from all income levels. After a race, they go to the bar and have a D&S and celebrate the day! No different than any other hobby sport.
- Great atmosphere - we are members of a yacht club located north of Boston - the YC has a great vibe - I think it has a feel of New England (opposite of what someone else wrote before)
- Staff go out of there way to make you feel great and have a fantastic experience
- it shares a wonderful pool area where you can relax (near to YC). The pool area closer to BC is more young kid loud (at times)
- great food; both high, medium, and low end.
- access to Epcot, BC, BW, Swan, Dolphin - all walking distance
- easy access to HS (boat)
- not bad to MK or AK - be prepared to bus it through MKT or cut through Epcot and take Monorail

have a great time! - do a trip report and take us all along?

I mean, the theme is mostly "country club that until recently didn't have non-white members" and...TBH I think that is why some of the people I see are staying there.

However, yeah the grounds are beautiful, pool(s) are some of the best at WDW and the location in comparison to Epcot and even HS is hard to beat. Even if the on site restaurants aren't your thing, you have easy access to the boardwalk restaurants as well as Epcot's.

I mean, I still dont get all the anti-dog hate, unless someone there has a mastiff that they are not picking up after and barks incessantly during the night- If while booking you requested a room far away from the dog rooms, I'm guessing they would accommodate, and if that became a major theme then they would likely end the experiment on that policy there.
I might be projecting/stereotyping the kinds of people I see there. I probably shouldn't, but yeah, I see a lot of "Chad and Miffy" type families where dad is decked out in Ralph Lauren and loafers.

It might be what I want to see, but I do feel like the people I see at YC seem somewhat different than say, AK lodge or Polynesian.
TBH the first time my wife and I walked through the YC I looked at her, bulged my eyes out as best as I could and said "BUY? BUSHWOOD? YOU?!?! WHY..." and then proceeded to pretend to choke her.

She then said "that's a boy movie thing right?"
And then I shut up.

Women don't quote Caddyshack. I'm not even sure they laugh at it either.
