Gertie is actually based on a real thing built in the early days of Hollywood...Mickey Shorts could fit in a "Hollywood Movie Theater"Context.... the others....I got nothing....
So... what would you say is the theme of Echo Lake?

I personally feel like it it's a tribute to all things Hollywood, both old and new, but I can't seem to find a defined "theme" online anywhere.

She's simultaneously a character from a real, groundbreaking piece of animation/performance art (an actor stood to the side of the Gertie animation and "interacted" with her with timed comments, e.g. "Do you like that, Gertie?" *Gertie animation nods*) and an homage to the wonderful time when the American landscape was dotted with eye catching things and we weren't supposed to pretend bright colors are bad and boxes are the height of all architecture.

She shared the latter with Cementosaurus, though he wasn't a stand so was more the eye catching less the architecture.

Having MJ and Ellen in EPCOT ultimately had the exact opposite of the intended effect as the attractions aged.
I was friends with the former producer of the "Ernie Kovacs Show."

Ernie Kovacs had one of the most popular television shows.... ever.

"Who?"

He wisely told me in 2001: "Fame is Fleeting."

If Frozen, Star Tours, Indy, Mickey shorts, and Gertie can all fit into the "Hollywood" theme. IMHO the worlds current biggest musician would fit in there as well.
American Idol - was it raven that was rockin out with Ryan with lights motors videos playing? How quickly we forget. Haha

Are you sure you're talking about Ernie Kovacs? He died in 1962 - meaning your friend must have been very very old at the time...

(For many Ernie was fondly remembered for his appearances on What's My Line?. What's What's My Line?, you ask? Well...)

YES TO ALL .

After Ernie's untimely death in 1962, my friend re-evaluated his own life and entered the seminary and was ordained a Catholic priest. Because of the show, he knew so much of the "who's who" of the Golden Age of Hollywood.

So when I met him he was very retired but still helping as a "weekend assistant" in local churches.

For example. He knew Bud Abbot (...never in a vain name dropping way, but he pretty much met 'em all through Ernie). When he saw my surprise, he turned to a boy passing by and asked "do YOU know "ABOTT & COSTELLO?"

The boy looked at him like he had 2 heads (he was greeting various people after the church service at that time).

THAT'S when he turned back to me and said, "See? Fame is Fleeting!"

That was 2001. Already nearly a quarter century ago.

A kind and straightforward man. Passed well over 15 years ago.

(still on-topic as the question is regarding whether TODAY'S A-lister will become the new EO)
