Greetings fellow Armchair Imagineers! After Season 16 came to a very satisfying close with @Disney Dad 3000 being crowned the game's latest champion, it's time to officially announce the theme and twists coming your way for Season 17...the follow-up to Sorcerer's Apprentice and the tentpole competition of this board's summer season. Season 17 has the subtitle of The International Edition. As the game goes on, my goal of having each and every project be unique becomes harder and harder. One of the areas that we've never really ventured fully into though, is the international parks. There's just so much untapped potential there, which is why I thought it'd be the perfect theme.

For season 17 you will be divided up into teams based on the countries which play host to Disney Parks resorts. The three main teams will be Team Europe, Team China, and Team Tokyo. Team Europe will work a little differently and will feature a component of coming up with a second resort apart from Disneyland Paris given the fact that a big Walt Disney Studios expansion is coming and the Disneyland Paris park itself is both being covered on Sorcerer's Apprentice and doesn't have much space. Team China will design for both Hong Kong Disneyland and Shanghai Disneyland, while Team Tokyo will have the honor of designing for the most popular and critically acclaimed theme park destination in the world.

As we move forward, there will be retrospective podcasts which include a ranking of the game's 15 winners (including how Basketbuddy's two winning games stack up against each other) as well as interviews with various Season 16 players not the least being winner Disney Dad and runner up @pixie_princess. We'll also be hosting ParkBuilders Unite prompt in which we'll be slowly building the second European Disney resort which Team Europe will have access to at the start of the game.

In the spirit of Sorcerer's Apprentice, starting in May you may reserve a Fastpass ranking your preference in what team you'd like to be on. This will be first come first serve so if your first choice is filled up by the time you reserve a Fastpass you'll get your second choice and so-on. Of course in the spirit of So, You Want to be an Imagineer and team-based gameplay, Walt's Vault will make its triumphant return to twist up the game for those brave enough to open it. Along with traditional team swaps, don't expect to be working on the same set of parks the whole game. Lastly it's my sincere honor to announce @JokersWild as my co-host who will be helping with written reviews and coming up with the project roster. He won't be able to do the podcasts, but he'll be a great return to having a big text-based personality as a co-host in the same way MEW and I ran the game in the seasons 6-10 era.

All that in mind, I present you with the first logo we've had for a season in god knows how long...

Looks awesome! I'll take a Fastpass for Team China (Team Europe also sounds super interesting though )

Glad you're interested, but hold off on Fastpasses for now. I want to give people a bit of a breathing room between seasons and have the focus on Sorcerer's Apprentice. :) Next week we'll be starting the brainstorming for the Team Europe resort. I have everything broken up into weekly stages from early location scouting to finished product.

No offense Tiki but if this is true then why did you start the next season hours after Season 16 ended? Even as little as a few weeks in between would be okay, or just waiting until May for Fastpasses.

I might sign up though when the time comes.

Ah, sorry about that, I was too excited! :D I love the theme though, the China parks have so much that can be done!

This is an announcement thread, not the official start of the season. I've always put up an announcement thread for the next season after the winner reveal at the end of the current season.

I can see where she is coming from though, as I felt similarly. I'm glad you are taking my advice on the setup of the season with the old VisionsFantastic logo, Jokers back, and so on - but it might be a lot to start brainstorming next week on top of everything else, when there's no problem with it beginning in May or so. SA has been going for less than a week haha let's get a few weeks off the ground first before looking towards the next season?

I’d have to agree with this. SA just started and we are approaching finals here in a few weeks I’m not going to have time for an open brainstorming thread of that scale. I know I’m not the only one in this boat so maybe it’s better to wait? I know I’d rather have no open brainstorming yet then have one with no activity.

Okay, here's what we'll do. The first round of Park Builders will happen week Fastpasses become available which is the first week of May. That way we have a month for SA to breath without any other major side stuff happening (not that I ever intended to step on your toes, of course.) Once May comes around we can kick the hype thread into high gear with the Disneyland Europe brainstorming as well as Fastpass reservations. In the meantime, this thread will be used as the hub for SYWTBAI retrospective interviews and podcasts including my teased about "So, You Want to be an Imagineer Winner Rankings".

For the record, while I probably should have held off on announcing the Fastpass system, I did that to try and get people to not just sign up for teams right off the bat. With all due respect to Flippin', of course. ;)

Hey, kids. I'm back for the time being. Good news is that I don't have to write anything, so this is a commitment I'll be able to have easily.
Firstly, I'd like to thank those of you who have expressed interest in competing. We really hope to see you once sign ups actually begin in May. I'd also like to quickly address those who have expressed concerns with the structure of the pre-season, more specifically the brainstorming for Europe's park. I understand that some are concerned about this cutting into SA, but I assure you that this couldn't be farther from our intention. The brainstorming is meant to be light and casual to keep discussion going until sign ups eventually begin. Everyone has their own schedules, and people are always looking for something to do on the boards. This was intended to be something else that anyone can participate in and have fun if their not playing SA, have time, and don't have a project that they are personally working on (and the idea of revitalizing the concept of open brainstorming on the boards was certainly a contributing factor ;)) If you're interested, the door's open, and if you're busy with life/ other projects/ what have you, that's fine too -we'll see you in May. Tiki and I really want this season to go smoothly and be the best it can be.

If anyone has any concerns, please PM me. I'd love to hear from you guys, but I really don't think that this thread is the proper forum to express those concerns; or, rather, I'd rather not have this thread immediately get off to a bad start.

Thank you and I can't wait to see what you guys come up with once this season gets off the ground.
