Sub app for dessert?

Quick question for those who have used the regular dining plan while at WDW - has anyone asked or been able to substitute an appetizer for a dessert? My DH would absolutely prefer to have an appetizer over dessert and he plans on asking every restaurant we visit if he can make the switch (never hurts to ask, right?) but I was wondering if anyone has tried and succeeded in making the switch before we go.

If you were able, at which restaurant?

From what I've heard you can't. But I guess it never hurts to ask.

Usually you can't. But if you are lucky you will get a great server who will bend over backwards.

The only time we were able to do this was at Narcoossees and Cali Grill - they both let us use a dessert credit for the cheese plate and let us have it as an appetizer. They actually presented us with this option at the beginning of the meal when they knew we were on the DDP. 1 of us got the cheese plate and we split it - then 1 of us got dessert and we split that...worked out quite well.

We have never been able to, and that bums me out as at some places I would rather have the appetizer.
