Stitch's Great Escape logo

I'm sure in the actual attraction they will refer to Stitch as 626. Stitch was the name Lilo gave him when he landed to Earth. More than likely they call it "Stitch's Great Escape" because it's easier to identify. I mean, who wants to go on "Experiment 626's Trial and Departure"? :p

WDI felt by adding a Stitch overlay to the existing core Alien attraction, that they could reinvigorate it, boost numbers at the attraction, and give MK something new. The existing Alien Encounter was unfortunately losing popularity with a lot of guests.

A lot of fans wish they had built it in a different building. :fork:

Word on the street was that they closed it because of Guest Relations recieiving way too many complaints. I blame it on all of the parents who did not read the warning signs. Now we have yet another animated film-based attraction in Fantasyland East, I mean Tomorrowland.

A Stitch attraction should have been in Adventureland. That way, it could have also featured Lilo.

I still think Skippy could have sold more merchandise than Stitch if he had been advertised more. :animwink:

Back on topic......

Thanks for posting the logo Steve! :)

I really don't think a Stitch overlay is bad for the area. Sure it brings more characters in to Tomorrowland, but it does bring a new (and probably very popular) attraction in to the land. At least they didn't close Alien Encounter and let it sit vacant for years until they decided on something new. I am all for cahnge as long as you make it better.

According to AL Weiss the biggest reason for the switch was not because Alien Encounter was a bad attraction or the lack of attendance but because the majority of people first turn right when entering the Magic Kingdom. This brings them first to Tomorrow Land and the very first attraction they come across was Alien Encounter. The upper management felt that since this was the very first attraction many people would go on, it did not represent the Magic Kingdom as a family park and would put a bad taste in some families mouths who did not expect such a scary attraction. So, unfortunately it was the original placement of the attraction that caused its demise.

I'd say that you pretty much hit the nail on the head there. That and of course the complaints. I wish they would have thought of this BEFORE they built it, but oh well

And for the record I don't think anyone can really expect a SHOW of that size to keep up the 30-45 minute waits after the newness wears off. AE always seemed to have a 15 minute wait (during the daytime in the busy seasons) which wasn't that bad at all. There are other shows in the MK with similar capacity, with less waits. But I'm past my complaining stage. What's done is done.

But I think it will be very interesting to see what SGE's wait times resemble about 7 years after opening (assuming FastPass doesn't give SGE an unfair advantage as far as wait times go). It's a fact that SHOWS lose wait times at a faster rate than RIDES do. I guess we will know alot more when that time comes.

I always rode it first so I didn't have to stand in line.

to be honest, i'll be gald to see sge.... I really liked AE the first time I rode it, and it freaked the hell out of me, cause I didn't know what to expect. In fact the first time i rode AE, i had no idea what the attraction even was! LOL.

Anyway, i'm assuming i'll have the same experience on SGE as I did with AE. The first time I see it, it'll be great, but then will slowly loose it's entertainment value each time I see it.

I'm excited to see Stitch coming. I really liked the Lilo and Stitch movie. Stitch is among my favorite characters (although Tigger will always be #1). I actually never really liked AE.

*Awaiting neg rep and flogging*

I only saw it a few times, because I didn't like it the first time, but kept giving it another chance. We would use it as a "rain shelter" or because we'd seen everything else and had time left. I know AE is dear to a lot of people's hearts and I understand that, different people have different tastes. Plus my brother's slightly claustrophobic and didn't like the harnesses.

You won't get any from me. AE wasn't everyone's cup of tea. At least you actually realized that alot of people did like it. Trust me there are alot of attractions that were popular that I never really liked (20K, Peter Pan's Flight, Illuminations ROE, etc...). The only time you should get negative rep is if you say something like "AE suked. It was the worst ride I ever rode. Ya'll are ediots if you thought that Alien ride was good"

Or something to the extent of, "lololol1!!11 alien encounter suxuuxx!!! ahahhaah!!11 your stupid!!111"

:lookaroun

:D

I'm with dxwwf, speak out your ideas and don't listen to the cowards who may anonymously neg-rep you for no reason.

That is funny, I recognised that but I never realised that is a reason AE closed. I mean I do the imagineering board stuff all the time and recently I have been designing a new Disney Park. One problem I had was the placement of Alien Encounter. I had it where Toon Town is between Tommorowland and Mainstreet and so that where I put the AE entrance was right between both areas. I realised the problems that would be caused and I ended up having Alien Encounter in a secluded spot.

But I find that a very good point and something I would accept. It is very sad but I am sure that could cause problems. Of course, Disney attractions have returned (I consider Mission Space to be a new version of Mission to Mars), but most of the time newer ideas are better.
