Star Wars Launch Bay coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios later this year

What exactly were some of you people expecting?

For the amount of money and the amount of time they had, it's well done. For the nature of what they're doing, it's well done.

Were you people seriously expecting a fully armed and operational battle station in only three months?

Star Wars land will not open until 2019/2020. This is something for the here and now… And is infinitely better than what the frozen crowd got.
If they hired independent contractors we could have gotten a partially built death star.

Well there's a difference when you weigh in, being here longer than I have (?!!?) and when someone who joined three days ago does....

Does this mean people can only have an opinion that's valid if you're a forum old timer? Utter nonsense. It doesn't matter if someone's been here for 3 days or 10 years, their opinions are still equally relevant.

Did it ever occur to... anyone that there is probably more coming? I mean, I don't know anything for sure, but it stands to reason a couple of things.
A: The Notoriously Spoiler-Averse J.J. Abrams doesn't want elements of his movie being spoiled by installations in the Launch Bay, so things that deal with plot points in the movie might possibly be held back until the debut of the movie itself.
B: Since every construction company in Central Florida is working their butts off on Disney Springs and DAK, and the accelerated time frame caused by the announcement of opening day, its possible that there were certain elements that were prioritized over others. When Haunted Mansion re-opened after its re-imagining, there were elements that were left out because they werent done in time of the announced re-opening date, and they were introduced in phases, installed in the evening. That would be even easier to do in an exhibit-type environment, such as Launch Bay.

Man, all I see on this forum is negativity and cynicism. That used to be the purvue of Micechat, and WDWMagic was actually for fans who actually UNDERSTOOD Disney. What happened to the Walt Disney-esque optimism? Remember, when Disneyland opened, Tomorrowland literally had nothing, and the "exotic" plants in Adventureland were California-native species with their Latin Names on placards in front of them. But, Walt promised July 17th, so July 17th it was.

I checked it out this morning and my honest reaction was underwhelmed. The space is entirely too large for the little bit that was put in. It has potential if they plan on adding to it. Most people were only walking in for the character meet and greets.

They are clearly going to add to it every year seeing that a new movie will come out every year as well. Probably just props and additions to the movies, but if there is a breakout character, I'd expect some new meet and greets. And they will pay attention to feedback considering how important Star Wars will be to this park. I wouldn't be surprised if a model of Star Wars Land gets installed there once it's finalized.

This is not true. If I had the opinion that the sky was blue because little pixies with blue crayons colored it that way, then that opinion would not be relevant because it is not based in fact.

Welcome to this forum lately, the negativity has become almost utterly unbearable.

Well when Disney invests for nearly 15 years into how to drive the product into the ground.. eventually they'll succeed in changing moral.

The solution to low moral is product that impresses and doesn't look to pick your pocket as you stand in line.

If Disney actually started to wow people again.. then things would change.

I'm actually impressed by the effort in Disney Springs lately.. the problem is its a ton of effort into something I have no interest in going to Florida for. So swing and miss for me...

The place lacks texture... it's mainly painted walls with some soffets/etc. That's what projects the 'cheap' feeling. The cantina area has SOME add ons, but being so sparse it makes the pieces look cheap vs authentic.

The large blowups of the art to the lit panels completely sterilizes the art. sure it makes it more 'accessible' but it also neuters it and causes it to lose it's impact.

The replicas make it less of an attraction and more of just a commercial. If I'm a fan, I don't need to see a scale model of Slave I to appreciate it... but I would want to see the real models used. Show me something I've not seen before, or can't see/experience elsewhere.

Temporary is no excuse... this is a theme park that generates millions in gate revenue a day. It's your freaking crown jewel of a multi-billion dollar enterprise... act like it.

The place lacks any effect of taking you somewhere else.. and lacks any semblance of authenticity... That's why it falls flat for alot of people. People have come to expect Disney to create immersive environments for their stories and attractions. When Disney keeps trotting out these props in a soundstage, or painted walls + lightbox presentations... they fall short of a Disney Experience.

I mean come on... the Marvel area in the KIDS CLUB on the Disney Ships have more texture to the environment than this does...

meanwhile.. some people are just happy Disney threw them a bone...

One Man's Dream lacked an environment, but it told a compelling tale, with authentic pieces that you would not see elsewhere, and offered elements that were eye-opening to many people. It was a solid museum experience, even if it lacked warmth/character in the setting itself.

Anyone else hearing sci fi diner is going to bite the dust in favor of a Star Wars eatery? Much like what happened last year during Star Wars weekends except year round.

Not Sci Fi from what I understand. It will stay as it is (although the types of movies may change).

50s Prime Time and Hollywood & Vine are the ones I'm hearing are going. They will remain almost exactly the same kinds of offerings, however both restaurants will be getting the SW theming.

However that was back at a time when H&V was supposed to get the fab 5 in SW gear, so that may have changed since Kathleen Kennedy killed the Disney characters dressing up as SW characters.

Backlot Express will be the Cantina.

Will this building be destroyed during the expansion at any stage?

That would be likely, but not until WAY down the line.

Unless they tear down the building completely to give access to the area behind it, I wouldn't be surprised to see it eventually turned into a multi-purpose building, including a restaurant to take the place of what Hollywood & Vine currently offers.

Everything else except for the Playhouse Disney building in that area is being torn down. I've seen others say Mermaid is staying, but it isn't. Toy Story Land will spill out directly into the Animation Courtyard.

As for whether Launch Bay is permanent or temporary. It's there until SW land opens, which is 4-5 years away, so you can be the judge on if that's permanent or not.

Personally, anything over a year or two I'd consider "permanent".

Had to ask, what do you mean by low morals?

.

Mermaid may not stay mermaid but the building is not in the way of toy story land.

Yes, it absolutely is. That whole area will be open to Toy Story Land.

I've seen others say that the OMD and Pirates building is going and that will be the entrance to TSL. That is true to an extent, but that whole area from the Pirates building all the way around the Animation Courtyard to the Launch Bay will be open as the entrance to TSL.

The Animation Courtyard will remain, but the shops will be gone (replaced by shops in the same proximity, actually back more towards the Launch Bay building) as will all of those buildings, including Pirates, OMD and Mermaid.

....and I'm not sure, but I don't believe it would be possible to tear down just OMD and Pirates without tearing down Mermaid and the shops. Idk, but they seem to be all one intertwined building.

Interesting to hear. I assume there will be new entertainment added elsewhere that we haven't heard of yet with all the shows we are losing. Nightly fireworks will be a nice addition.

The entrance to toy story land will be just past the current mermaid building. That building is not going anywhere. Toy story land entrance will be between the current mermaid building and the studios arch. It won't extend anywhere near the launch bay.
