Star Tours 2 helping TSMM?

I haven't been since the opening of Star Tours 2, but has anyone noticed if the the reopening has helped to reduce the wait times for TSMM. I know it's early but I know that was something a lot of people were hoping for. I haven't seen any discussions about it yet.

I've heard the wait time for TSMM is still longer than Star Tours, kinda surprises me, I guess families with kids still want to hit TS before ST.

I will say that one morning when I was down there for opening, we're usually there for rope drop to be first in line for TSM, we were about 10 minutes late and that's enough to back up the line for Toy Story, but it wasn't that bad. It was definitely lighter than what it would have been I think.

This was during the Star Wars weekend though, so I'm sure people wanted to go over there first but I don't know.

I've been curious about this too. I've been monitoring the WDWLines App from Touringplans.com and the times seem to be consistant with before ST's opening. Doesnt look like there has been much effect. Time will tell. I'm sure there are more Toy Story fans than SW fans out there, especially families.

I'm not terribly knowledgeable about Toy Story Midway Mania, but hasn't the wait time issue always been about loading speed and capacity?

In a park that only has four real headline attractions I doubt Star Tours is going to have much of an impact at the other three headliners, but probably reduces the number of people in the queues for the smaller attractions.

If Star Tours has no real effect on evening out the distribution of crowds, I think TDO and WDI need to acknowledge that the problems at the park can't be solved with an E-ticket or two. They really need a coherent and thought out expansion plan that defines DHS's identity. It can't just be a park that most go to for 4 rides.

Partially agree...

Great Movie Ride
Tower of Terror
Rockin Roller Coaster
Star Tours
Muppets
TSMM

Are all must do's each time I go...Star tours I'll probably be riding multiple times next time. Indiana jones is still a solid show. BatB and AI aren't bad shows. Fantasmic is good for days it runs.

So I'd say with the update to star tours its in much better shape...it could still use an expansion but its not THAT bad.

Between the rush to get fastpass being so well known and the ride having such awful awful capacity issues the line is going to be long until those change.

Star Tours, Great Movie Ride, Muppets and most other attractions at the park either have high or very good capacity rates.

Star Tours has a ridiculously high OHRC if all 6 sims are running. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000.
(Seats 40, 6 sims, ride is about 4:15 long. Give 45 seconds for load/unload, you have 5:00. 40 x 6 x 12 = 2880)

TSM is much, much lower. I don't know the numbers, but I'd put it at probably 1500.
Vehicles hold 8, and the ride is 5-6 min. Say its 6, so thats 10 times the vehicle goes through in an hour. No idea how many cars they have, anyone know?

While Star Tours has a high OHRC it is nowhere near 5,000. No ride has that kind of OHRC. Even rides that never stop loading like Haunted Mansion and Spaceship Earth don't have that kind of OHRC.

Believe it or not, the entire time the new Star Tours has been open, Toy Story's wait is always more than 60 minutes.

Which shows you just how bad the capacity is in comparison with more people re-riding Star Tours than they used to and it being Star Wars Weekends for the first time having a new Star Wars experience to showcase.

In all the times I've been to Hollywood Studios, I have never seen TSMM under a 70 minute wait. Many times I've seen it over 120 minutes...including in the off season. There is a severe need for more family friendly rides in the park...and at least one or two in the area nearby Toy Story to alieviate the traffic.

Star Tours will start having the longest line in the park as soon as it's on every inch of the DHS advertising. This will probably take a month. People are sheep, they go where Disney (advertising) tells them to go. If Disney put Sounds Dangerous on the cover of the park map, it would have the longest line in the park.

Wrong. Not every guest that enters the park cares to go on ST.

If waits were not an issue, I would guess the average guest would ride TSMM more than one time per visit.

Seriously, if it could triple capacity and cut wait times to 1/3, I would ride 3-5 times per visit. So would MANY others.

No ride has the kind of rerideability that TSMM does.

If more guests are coming into the park for ST, expect on average for each of them to ride TSMM at least once. Would everybody in a group drawin in by ST want to go on ST? I would say that at best, 70% of those guest families would actually ride ST.

ST is much worse for TSMM waits than better.

Again, 5-6 new rides. And not lame Bugs Life rides like DCA.

1 more E
2 more Ds
2 more Cs
And a kiddie ride.

And *that* is the reason, coupled with the capacity, that TSM is so "popular".

It's because there is really little else for families with kids to do at the Studio's that isn't a show.

It's one of the most uninspired attractions ever, it's success is mostly about it's location and the dearth of other ride activities without height restrictions.

I was in WDW last week. We avoided DHS like the plague for the first SWW, so we didn't get there until this past Monday. We were at the park for opening, fairly close to the front of the "line" for rope drop, and by the time we "walked" to TSMM and got our fastpass (I was one of the first in line for it) and then jumped in line, the line was already marked at 50 minute wait....it ended up being about 25 minutes, but that's still at 9:10am! As far as Star Tours, right after we rode TSMM, I went right over there to get a fastpass, and it was a 10 minute wait for the attraction....
Each time we walked past Star Tours it was never more than a 25 minute wait, whereas TSMM hit 120 minutes that day. So I'd say no, Star Tours isn't helping! (Although, the new ride is AMAZING-- and I'm not even a huge Star Wars fan!)

Have to disagree here. MK's park maps recently featured Philharmagic for some time and Epcot's had Nemo on the cover. Neither of those attractions had the longest lines in the park or even any sort of noticeable extra attendance.
