We were talking about her not leaving at the end of her contract. I wasn't talking about this very second.

Sorry when you say -

It would be very smart of her to step away. Walk away now, take all the accolades that will come her way. "We wish Kathy all the best as she moves on to the next chapter in her hall of fame career."......

That doesn't mean in 3 months at the end of her contract to me. To me that means leave now in August 2024 and don't look back. But maybe its just me....

What do people expect to happen when Kennedy leaves?

Star Wars will never be run like it was under Lucas. He was happy to sit and wait to make new content, only doing so when the technology was at a point he felt he could realize his vision of the prequels.

The building up of demand that made Phantom Menace and Force Awakens monster hits are unlikely to be seen again. Disney isn't going to let Star Wars sit dormant for a decade.

There will continue to be lots of content and some will work, and some won't.

Maybe they'll make some adjustments. A trilogy should be planned out and there should be another year between installments so they can tweak the story based on reaction. Lucas seemed to at least take the time to make positive changes such as sidelining Jar Jar.

Who knows, for all we know it could get worse. But that's a chance I'll take. I've seen what she brings to star wars, I don't need to see anymore. Now to be fair, I don't really trust Iger to make that kind of hire. So I'd say let Favreau finish the mando film, then put star wars on ice until they find a new head of Lucasfilm. They have no plan anyway. It's all a bunch of throw stuff against the wall and see if something sticks. So I'd rather have no content then the, we have no clue what we want to do content we have right now.

I guess my question is, what do people expect to happen if she stays? I think we're at the point where, what's the definition of insanity, applies.

Interesting articles out there on The Acolyte out there today. Looks like there's a neat tax angle that Disney could indeed have its figurative cake (an unpopular show with a definite spin) and eat it too (using it as a tax write off by yet again removing its existence) just like they did with Willow.
Oof. They’re about to hit it with the Legends treatment.

Nope, its just a tax thing where they remove it from the service, they aren't going to de-canonize it just because the show got cancelled.
If they are removing it from the service though, that really is a big indictment of the program. Even when they were purging things previously, I don't think they ever removed any other Star Wars content, did they?

First it should be noted that Disney hasn't officially said they were removing Acolyte from D+, at least as far as I'm aware. This is just some articles saying that it might be something that Disney might do now that its been cancelled in order to get a tax write off, or more likely so they don't have to pay residuals, as they did with Willow and other shows they recently pulled off the service.

Also you can read into it whatever you will, but this is the way of streaming services. Every one of them do it as part of their business, even Netflix. Its no different than when ABC or any old linear channel cancelled a show and never showed it again in reruns or syndication. We're just more aware of it now. It still doesn't mean that the events in the show are de-canonized and sent to Legends status.

Sadly this is how I feel about much of Disney right now, until we have new leadership and a better vision I’d rather they do nothing rather than waste stories, land, and resources on new shows, rides, ships, etc that aren’t to the same quality as old Disney.

The television/movie side bothers me far less than the physical side, movies can be easily remade but we’ll likely be stuck with the questionable rides/lands/ships for the rest of our lives.

We all want shiny new things but if the new is inferior to the old we’re better off sticking with the old.

Rumours or suggestions to de-canonize things generally come from people who think that something they didn't like should just magically be erased. If they applied this approach to Star Wars we'd be left with two movies.

Regardless, there's no reason to de-canonize this series that I can think of. It's a prequel that likely doesn't impact any other stories they want to tell. It didn't establish anything that would be now considered an important part of Star Wars lore.

It's not like the novels, where so much happened including the death of key characters, that they had to jettison it lest any new movies be highly restricted.

Agreed, perfect example is all those rumors of Disney working to de-canonizing the ST. Nothing could be further from the truth. Not only are they not de-canonizing them, they are actively working to bridge the gap between the PT/OT and the ST via some of these new stories.

Finally finished the season. Had some cool fight scenes and nice visuals but it couldn't make up for the bad story, characters and writing.

I'm pretty down on SW as a whole right now. Thankfully we at least get Andor season 2.

LFL's ability to produce stories from outside the Skywalker time period pretty much lived and died on this show which failed miserably. I am not sure whether this will impact stories such as the Jedi beginnings, but it certainly paints a somber picture of SW future. I'm not sold on the idea of a Mandalorian/Grogu movie and as far as we know, the Rey movie is far from being in production any time soon.

These are definitely dark times for SW. Even in the era after ROTJ, had they announced movies in the last 80's or early 90's, people would have gone crazy. Now, absolutely NO SW announcement is generating even the most remote and miniscule amount of excitement or hype. Not sure what it will take for SW to be any kind of presence any more. Maybe if they promise to have Han and Luke together, use high tech methods and got Ford and Hamil on board, it MAY generate some good will.

I agree. You can’t just pretend things don’t exist.

But while we’re on the subject of movies, does anyone know when Episode 9 is finally gonna come out? I feel like we’ve been waiting a long time.

They don't need Skywalkers or any legacy characters to have success. They just need to create new characters that are cool and people can get invested in.

Legends products, while de-canonized, are still generally produced and made available for legal consumption. I can still go out and buy new physical or digital copies of tons of Legends works, like the original Thrawn trilogy novels or the like.

Where can I legally acquire or stream the Willow series?

But they haven't even announced it would be removed, or for that matter even quietly removed it. This was all speculation based on some site pondering if Disney would remove it. And that still doesn't mean it'll be de-canonized even if it is removed from the service.

As for the Willow series, no where right now. That doesn't mean Disney won't release it again in the future back on D+ or license it to another service.

As down as I am on the sequels, I never thought for a second they'd de-canonize it. The best I, or anyone who is down on it, can hope for is that they clone wars it. Mando has seemed to be trying to, and hopefully the movie will help. At this point though, it's probably just best to leave a sleeping dog lie and move to 200yrs ahead, or go complete old republic.

Honestly I'm ok if they want to stay in the High Republic era this show was set in, lots of story to tell there. While I liked the story overall, it obviously didn't resonate with others. So they need to find a way to continue in this era with a more compelling story for the masses.
