But think of how many people will enjoy Splash so much more when everything is fixed and up to date!

Disney doesn't do everything for you, and the key is to count your blessings and be happy you're going to the World in the first place.

They always do it in the winter though. Understandable as it's colder, it's less busy and it's one of those ride that NEEDS a refurb because of cleanliness and having so many effects.

Sorry pal, i know it sucks when one of you're fave attractions is closed.

I never want to see Splash Mountain in anywhere close to the condition it was in pre-refurb ever again. It was depressing and disgusting for numerous years. It currently looks better than it has in years (at least close to what it looked like when pretty new). If continuing to close the ride annually for a month or two for maintenance is what it takes to prevent that, I welcome it. A few people can cry about it all they like, but having an attraction in the vomit worthy condition Splash was in is unacceptable and should not be allowed to remain operating in that state. Not closing it down for proper maintenance (and not addressing issues even when it was closed) was what caused it to get into that state in the first place.

Well stated. This is one ride that needs its annual maintenance. Missing one year because Big Thunder was being refurbed left Splash as an awful mess. Hopefully they won't do that again.

And the cool months are when they'll do it. So if its a must do then don't go January or February. Not much way around except to see it rot again.
It wasn't just because it missed a year, though that didn't help. Splash was in dire condition before even 2010. They actually did close it for about a month or so in 2011 to add lap bars to the boats. The dumb thing is they didn't take that downtime to do anything to the ride itself show-wise. The ride reopened with still-broken animatronics (and more soon broke afterwards), faded paint, and structural issues such as leaky roofs (and in 2012 some crumbling rockwork fell in the loading area). It has to have been a long time since it got any sort of substantial refurb.

I hadn't visited prior to 2010 for over a decade and really don't know how long Splash had been in such a sad state. Though i'm guessing it had been in pretty bad condition even a few years before as well considering the condition it was already in at that point (even if it got worse since). I'd guess it had probably been in rapidly declining condition throughout the past 10 years or so, the early 2000's is said to be when maintenance began to sharply drop (they fired a bunch of night crews back then among other major budget slashing). I really don't know how long it has been since Splash Mountain got a refurb on the scale of its last one, if it even ever has at all (perhaps not).

Yes. As someone who typically does WDW in January due to family scheduling issues, I wish they'd vary the month from year to year (Such as January on odds, February on evens, or something)
Unfortunately, they choose this refurb for January, basically every January. I know it's a problem for those who have to visit at that time, but it's also a well-known situation.

Some people simply need to up their fiber.....

Whatever it takes to keep Splash going is OK fine by me, but it does seem odd that they extended the refurb through March! Interactive queue? LOL:jawdrop:

This was posted in the main thread - "Budget for the refurb has more than tripled... They are going to changing all sensor arrays, all propulsion jets (water pumps) and all lift systems.. All boats with have to be refitted (Anti-rollback dogs are different, etc) for the new lifts.."

I thought you were never going back to Disney anymore?

So it's happening. This is the kind of decision-making I was promised many months ago when George K. showed up.

I'm used to hearing about refurb budgets getting cut, not tripled.

I thought last years refurbishment took care of everything.

You wouldn't drive around in your car thinking 'I thought last year's oil change took care of everything' now would you?

It's a giant machine filled with other machines. It requires maintenance and closes for about a month each year for that purpose.
EDIT -- And apparently it's closing longer than a month for other replacements to keep in tip top shape due to new, more forward-thinking management.
