Spaceship Earth not finished?

Rumblings and grumblings from usually reliable sources say the descent isn't finished yet, and I sure they add something to it, but I just don't think that anything is going to happen in the near future or at all.

Not that I don't believe our trusted comrades, but....:(

Everytime I hear:
"Do you remember when you learned your ABCs?"
I want to go to the descent so hard.

When I see the descent, I think:
"Maybe the ABC line wasn't so bad."

Sadly its going to stay in its horrible falling apart ugly state it looks like. Personally I dont think anything is going to be added or changed, some say when Siemens pays more money they want to complete it, but I'll believe it when I see it. Im very dissapointed in both Siemens and Disney on this. They did a half baked job.

Its finished. The ending is supposed to be interactive so your meant to be looking at the screens not the surroundings :brick: sad but true. I miss the old SSE

Finished. As in they are no longer working on it.
Also incomplete. As in there are more elements that were to be added (were being worked on) that are not currently present.
One day...when either Disney or Siemens decides to fund it, all the remaining elements will be added to make it complete.

It might be, but it was so dated, I really wouldn't want it back anyway.

I'm not exactly sure how static minatures and fiber optics representing an abstract and vague impression of the future of communication could be considered "outdated". When combined with the sweeping music at the end it created quite a good finale for the attraction.

The technologies represented are dated. They were supposed to look into the future of communication, and many of the displays and scenes in the descent are realities today (ie, the AMAZING video phone!). It was a good finale, and it was time for it to go. Just perhaps with anything better than we have now.

I'd love to know what the original plan was, cause I know that wasn't it.

I agree, it was an excellent finale for the attraction, and as you note, it was abstract so that even if sepcific elements may represent current technology ("video phone"), that doesn't really 'date' the finale in the same way time keeps catching up to the ending of Carousel of Progress. The futuristic cittyscape, Spaceship Earth 'model', and soundtrack are just as representative of the future today ans they were the day they were first installed.

Indeed, the previous finale better suggested the future than the current idea of sitting in your ride vehicle staring at an onscreen flash video. I can do that from home, and that's not even a current innovation either. I'll take the old finale anyday over that.

Just respectfully disagree. Different strokes, I suppose.

I agree I too like the old ending better, even if it was based on technology today. Like others said that combined with the music left quite a finale. That and it left your mind open to think of the possiblities of the the future combined with what we have today. The new finale talks of flying spaceships, houses that watch themselves while on vacation. I just don't see myself flying my car to work anytime soon...more of a make belive jetsons type thing

What were the workers and imagineers doing during the refurb? Just sitting around playing cards?

"Hey Dan, wanna work on the descent today?"

"Nah, you owe me a rematch for yesterday's go fish game. In the mean time we could just throw up a bunch of triangles."

The former descent was imaginative and truly forward thinking. Sadly, the new descent is indeed the Jetsons. It is not imaginitave at all, and it literaly looks as though Disney watched a season of the Jetsons and decided to put the Jetson technologies on a video screen.

The choice Disney made is certainly much easier than trying to update and re-imagine the old scenes with legitamate ideas. I suppose Disney figures if they reach far enough in the video with rediculous concepts they will never have to update the descent again.

A snipit that really annoys me from the video "here are some new technoligies that happen we know about". The video proceeds to show a skier breaking their arm and then a Jetson's machine non-invasively spray paints a new bone in the skiers arm.

I mean come on ... Disney really has knowledge of such things. Give me a break! (no pun intended).
