Space Mountain hit a 175-minute wait at 5:30pm Thursday, with only one of its two tracks running. Heavy rain also closed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, pushing crowds toward indoor rides and compounding the already reduced capacity.

It can’t be something like the structure being deemed unsafe, because those two tracks are so interconnected that it’s unlikely it would be isolated to one side. I think the far more likely explanation is much more mundane, something like the lift chain breaking on one of the two lifts. That can’t just be fixed day of, but certainly would only affect one side.

It seems that there were a few extenuating factors involved with this. Disney obviously wouldn't shut down one track just to see if they could annoy the guests. This literally was a perfect storm when the weather coupled with a mechanical problem caused a THREE HOUR queue wait. That was the issue from what I can tell. I hesitate to say this because this event seems to be a choice between standing out in the rain or being inside in line. Not really a normal reaction to wait times. I say that because I cannot fathom anyone willing to use up that much of their valuable time waiting that long for any theme park ride ever invented. It would be shear madness in my opinion. However, sadly, I know it has happened quite often in recent years.

That's really sad, Spooky Space Mountain is the crown jewel of MNSSHP. My friends and I still laugh about the first time we experienced it. Hopefully they'll be able to patch up SM to make it through the Party Season.

Everyone wants refurbishments until the refurbishment lands during their visit.

We pushed our trip to DLR back a week because Matterhorn was down for refurbishment during our initial week.

I will certainly not have that problem. DL's frequent refurbishments are precisely why their versions of classic attractions are usually in better show quality shape than their MK equivalents.
