Space Mountain Heading to the Scrap Heap :)

Originally they were going to treat it as the "next big thing" and a "relaunch". Originally, when they were going to do a much more thorough refurb, new trains, audio, etc., they had planned to use it as a key componant of marketing for the MK.
So much so, that I hear the cuts in refurb scale caused much disagreement and consternation between marketing and management. As I've said before, it's hard to sell a New! Relaunched Space Mountain! when it ain't all that new.

SAD SAD :( Bad new LEE

If you marketed it individually, it is easy to sell to your average guest. They probably wouldnt even know the extent from a positive or negative way. Now, the media and super fans like us on this forum would see right through it and call BS, laugh curse the budget cuts.

My point is, make some billboards on I-4 that resemble DLP SM:2 campaign (but obviously geared towards WDW version) and I would imagine you might get some foot traffic just from that from your average guest. I envision my dad ok.... "Hey buddy, look. Space Mountain is new" On a whole Tomorrowland or MK campaigns, i dont think so.

I have a strong feeling that will be it.:lol:

$12.3 million on a ride...

it's what us young people say :lookaroun

If you have a couple million just laying around that you'd like to spare, I'm sure they'd gladly add it to the fund... Or send it over to the Imagination IV bank...

It is a sad day when Disney hypes up a "new ceiling" and "new track" as something to get excited about to lure ppl back to WDW.

If they wanted to hype it they should have either created a brand new long track or two different tracks (1 wild 1 mild) in the ride like they were originally PLANNING to do or add something more significant.

I will not get excited over "new track/new ceilieng" "a/v upgrades" that should be standard every few years like it was before the late 90s.

It is a sad day when Disney doesn't hype up its attraction enhancements in any form. The fact that this refurbishment happened this year is a miracle in itself. I can personally enjoy a smoother ride, new ceiling (with less audio and light bleed) and easily have the comfort of knowing that the support structure isn't going to give way anytime soon. Maybe its just me, but I value my life too much to be caught up over the cosmetics when the technicals truly outweigh in significance.

Not for me.

How about "Albert" and "Einstein"? :lookaroun

I was thinking Baxter and Rohde... That way you can expect great things from both sides, and not just left field! :D

Unless they are doing a full track replacement there is still a risk of structural damage. What you talk about in that paragraph should have been done along time ago and should have been part of a routine refurb every so many years. Waiting this long to do just a minor refurb is UNACCEPTABLE. It is a both a smack in the face to loyal customers/fans and an insult to Walt & Roy's business philosophy.

If you want to encourage a "good enough for six flags" attitude to remain prevelant at Disney by paying $80 a day to enjoy mediocre thrills then be my guest but I won't go for it and I trust nobody else will either.

Then don't go for it. Please take it somewhere else.

Well... here we are almost 2 months into the refurb... without knowing much, I would assume the asbestos removal is done... Apparently it was going to be an easier asbestos removal because it was strictly ceilings 'tiles' being removed, not insulations, or other things..

meanwhile, with the recent news of old track removal, we should start seeing new track brought into the building soon.. all things considered, they would surely start testing the new track/coaster infrastructure by late september at the latest..

I just got back yesterday from WDW, and although I didn't see anything specific, there was certainly a lot of activity going on around (and in and out of) Space Mountain. Lots of workers, scaffolding, and welding/cutting equipment seen from World Drive.
