Debate? Debate implies a possiblity that either side can be correct. However, in this instance, that is not the case. My side is the only side that is correct. He claimed that Disneyland's Space Mountain has fiber optics embedded all over the walls / roof off the mountain, replacing the "disco ball" lighthing effect. That is completely not true. The ride still uses the disco balls, as it always has.

So no - he wasn't talking about an effect at the beginning of the ride, but the actual stars seen throughout the ride in general.

I'm not sure, though, if I'd rather see the Castle outfitted with fiber-optic effects first...
I defintely have to agree with you. Why waste $3.5m to essentially create the same effect? Would it really look all that much different? A white dot is a white dot whether it is created by old technology or new.

I belive the NEW DL Space Mountain doesnt use the old mirror ball effect but and upgraded projection effect, this is also used inside DLP's Space Mountain-Mission 2...

Not at all true. I've ridden it a number of times, both with lights on and off after park hours. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Unlike most people that post on these sites, I wouldn't say it if it was not 100% true.

I'll save you the time and trouble. The effect does not exist, thus it will not be added from one park to another based on it's existing success of what you speak.

Stop making stuff up. It's not endearing.

...hey bud, he was just making conversation, cool down a bit:)
I know he was wrong, but this still would be a cool effect, but I agree not quite cool enough for 3.5 million (speculation or not)
By the way, doesn't the meteor shower part of space mountain use fiber optics? I thought so, but I'm not sure.

1st lets just get some fiber optics on peter pan, it's older!

Now, that is a ride at Disneyland that has tons of fiber optic effects.

The Disneyland version of Peter Pan's Flight has fiber optics in almost every scene, most memorably used in the Flying Over The Island scene in that big room. Also when Tinker Bell sprinkles pixie dust on the big pirate ship as Peter and the gang head back to London. They had just replaced all those fiber optics in that Flying Over The Island room about 18 months ago, and it looks even more amazing now.

What do they use to portray all of those stars in WDW's version of Peter Pan's Flight if not fiber optics? I can't remember now.

I agree 100%, 3.5 million should be closer to the cost of a small attraction not fibre optics (ofcourse I'm being light hearted before I get jumped on)!!! BUT I thought fibre optics nowadays where fairly cheap on the scale of things!

Tell me about it. Sheesh! Some folks are wound up a wee bit too tight.

Personally, up until this thread I hadn't given a thought to whether they were disco lights, fiber optics or thousands of squirrel-monkeys armed with Zippo lighters.

It's a cool effect and would be a welcome addition at Disney World.

By the way if some of you havent been to DLSM the FiberOptic effect can be seen in the Tower of Terror when in the opening scene of the ride .....then all goes dark and the doors close as you load in the drop shaft.
J
Where is the fiber optic effect in DLSM? You are still not answering this question.

I would love to see a rehab on the stars, no matter what the cost. (I will pay an extra dollar in admission fees *grins*) The ToT fiber optic star effect is beautifully done. I would love to see something like that in SM. I think also with that effect, the lighting in there would be a little darker, making the ride even that more exciting. I think the current star effects in SM looks dated, although I still love it to death.

3.5 million for some lights on the ceiling is just stupid. Save it and spend it on somthing a little more important.

I agree, this ride needs A LOT more than some new lighting effects. First they need to find a way to make the ride less rough, invest the 3.5 mill on that. I guess lighting is a quick way to do some updating its just not the most pressing thing in my opinion.

I think they should at least do the rehab DL did. The car is much better side by side than back and front, and I personally dug the new music. I thought it added a funny retro feel to the ride, which it should have since in this day and age it's a pretty tame ride.
