Robert McCall, the painter of The Prologue and The Promise from the exit of Horizons and other iconic artwork depicting NASA and space just passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona. One of his NASA pieces can still be seen in EPCOT at the lobby area of The American Adventure. He was also the creator of the art for 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Very sad to loose a Legend like him. I remember going to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum a couple of years ago, walking toward a giant two story mural thinking it had to be a McCall and sure enough it was, depicting a fantastic space scene.

Whatever happened to the mural in Horizons? Was it destroyed when they changed the ending, or when they demolished the building? Or was it somehow salvaged?

It's too amazing of a piece of artwork to simply let go.
