Depends on where from.
Honestly, if you have a direct shot and can get a deal for checked or...are fine with just a bookbag there is a strong chance Spirit is Superior, all jokes in reputation aside. Just take empty waterbottle through security and be fine not getting a freek soft drink or snack.

Elaborating on the above, I live in Baltimore. Southwest takes up over half of our airport. Most of the time, they can get you where you're going, unless you're going someplace like Hawaii or international. They have tons of non-stop flights out of BWI. To Orlando there's so many daily that it's like, would you rather fly out at 8 am or 9:30 am or 11 am...Their crew is also always super friendly, and on the odd occasions when we've had to change flights, it's super easy to do online.
I have their credit card, and they're usually my default airline.
I have no reason to ever choose Spirit. More cramped, additional fees, fewer routes...100% not worth it. Not to mention the horror stories of cancelled flights. I've never had issues rebooking a Southwest flight, and I've only had a flight cancelled one time that wasn't because of the weather.

Reason I also asked is if you happen to be SLC. Delta or Spirit is the way to go. If you splurge, Delta. For budget. Spirit is honestly great. 160 bucks round trip to MCO. You can't even get three tanks of gas for that anymore.
And with a family, it adds up for a quick trip. But again, its straight through short flight.

I live near BWI too and will pick Southwest over Spirit every single time. The boarding process is a mess (to be fair it's a mess on every airline) but other than that I don't have any issues with them.

Sometimes it's worse on flights where seating is assigned. I mean, on United when I've flown them, it absolutely makes sense to assign seating since not every seat is the same, but the people double and triple checking their boarding passes just delays things, and then you have people in the wrong seats causing chaos...I kind of understand Southwest's point with just not doing that since other than the front and emergency exit rows, their seats are basically the same, so seats are just first come first serve.
It goes most smoothly with the frequent travellers who knows how their process works. Throw in people who don't know how it works and that's when the chaos starts.
I've also been on a few Southwest flights where the plane is nowhere near full, and they're like "People, please spread out!" That's where it's nice to have open seating because people choose to sit away from you. I had a flight in September of last year with 20 people on it. Had no one around me; it was glorious.

We used to fly Spirit to Orlando out of Atlantic City..after cancelled flights and one having to fly the night before to Ft Lauderdale and spending 6 hours sleeping outside the terminal (because they close until 4am), we now use JetBlue..haven’t had any flight problems other than damage to my ECV (which they made good on).

I've heard good things about them. It's a shame they don't have more flights out of Baltimore. They've never been on my radar for where I need to go simply based on availability.
For Baltimore to Orlando, your choices are basically Southwest, Spirit, or Frontier. Southwest is a no brainer in this case. I always love when we land how they say "We know you have choices when you fly." I'm like, I really didn't, lol.

My youngest daughter flew Southwest and liked it, my oldest daughter flew Frontier and said the seats were like sitting on bleachers at a HS football game…I guess if it’s a short flight, you know what to expect and want to save $$, Frontier is ok… as much a we liked Spirit, they let us down too many times.
If you drive up to EWR ( Newark ), United has around 7-8 non stops daily to MCO.

We take JetBlue out of EWR…plenty of flights…we usually take the 6:30 am flight down, and take the 9:30 pm flight out of Orlando home…we make the most of our travel days at Disney
That's great use of time. I met nurses who work 3 days on ( 13 hr shifts ) / 4 days off every week. They took the last flight from their city which is 9pm Sun night arrive MCO at 12am, Mon Tue Wed, Thu at WDW, take a Thu 8pm flight arrive at their home city at 11pm, back at work Fri 7am the next day. Enjoying WDW without even taking any vacation time from their vac bank.
