I have a question. Obviously, Disney have tried to distance themselves from this movie, never releasing it as a home video in the USA, and probably everywhere else. I've seen it, and I can see why they would want to, it does come across as quite racist, but it was how it was in the 40's i guess when it was made, so i think they should just embrace it.
But, I was thinking if they wanted to be distanced so much from it, why did they decide to build an entire attraction on it? I mean, i know Splash Mountain doesn't have Uncle Remus in it, and onlu focuses on the cartoon aspect of the film, but surely people who are interested are going to want to research where these characters come from, which will lead them straight back to Song of the South. Know what I mean?

listening to the ride music at the moment... zip a de doo dah!

I dont think its racist at all. It portrays how life was like back in that time. Plus the story isn't even about race or slavery.

But, the ride is definitely has been a hit for quite some time now.

Uncle Remus should be in Splash Mountain. Watch the movie. He was the hero and most intelligent person in the story.

I agree, It's an honest portrayal of how life once was. The problem is that people want to act like it never happened. We should embrace that movie and the history it contains. Obviously slavery isn't good but it's not what the entire movie is about.

Yes he was.

Yep this is true. Instead of a human AA they made him a frog.

I have the dvd of this film and while they say it's controversal one idea comes to mind is what they do on the Disney Treasures collections. When they go to the more controversial shorts Leonard Malton explains the reasons the shorts were made during the earlier years. If they did that then it might be better IMO.
